went here to try the traditional tripe and drisheen dish. queued to have name taken for table and then sent off for 10 minutes but was more than happy to wander around the food market in which the cafe is situated. i ordered the tripe and drisheen but because i hadnt tried it before they very kindly served me a taster portion in case it wasnt for me. exellent idea and nice touch. tripe was ok plainly cooked with white sauce and onions. drisheen was absolutely bland. i dont think this was a reflection on the cafe it just seemed to taste of nothing with a light airy texture. not how i had imagined it. went on to order lemon and thyme chicken with peas, leeks and champ. chicken was well cooked even if it didnt appear to have any flavour of lemon or thyme. mash was gorgeous but with 2 singular pieces of spring onion in it could hardly be classed as champ. companians had chicken salad which was just ok and at 13.50 per salad very overpriced. service and atmosphere were ok they forgot tea. sample was free but salads and chicken main were very overpriced. this place is ok but iv definitley had better for less

Had a late lunch here on a passing whim, superb. One goats cheese foccacia, one other sandwich, two superb chowders, we were seriously impressed. My impression of the food is home style, but well cooked and very good ingredients, no shortcuts being taken. They had run out of two of the specials, always a good sign. Atmosphere lovely, mixture of local business people and lunching ladies, all sharing big comfie tables, and very good staff, who created good vibes as well as keeping things moving at a good pace. Excellent coffee. Perhaps the perfect place for a late lunch and a long newspaper.

Food here is always a delight and the service warm and friendly. A bit on the pricey side but worth every cent!

Absolutely perfect in every way. Its been a few years since I was last here and I went with 4 friends for dinner. It is as good as ever - great atmosphere, great food well presented and excellent service from all staff on the night. Not cheap but worth every cent of it.

Myself and my husband went here for a birthday celebration and we were not disappointed. It was not our first time here and will continue to eat there. The food, service and atmosphere was superb . Choice is fantastic and we both went for fish, delicious. The selection of vegatables was wonderful and I absolutely love the Roast Potatoes included in this. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. We will be back again and again.

Had an excellent dinner here. Quality and presentation of food was top notch. Starters of soup, seafood chowder and prawn tempura followed by rib eye steak, cod and plaice which were all despacthed with relish. Wine list is good leaning towards Spain quite a bit. Prices were a little on the high side but given the quality compared to other eating establishmnets alowances should be made. The waiting staff were good but can try a lillte too hard. Bizzarely we were told that we could not add a tip to our credit card - just hope customers bring cash to allow for this! All in all a very enjoyable experience.

I went here recently with my girlfriend and was very impressed with the food, atmosphere and service. The rustic feeling is very charming and while it's only just off the main street of Midleton it doesn't feel like you're in the middle of a town once you step in the door. The prices are slightly high but as a treat I'd definitely recommend it.

have eaten here on a number of occasions - coffee with the girls, lunch with friends and special occasion dinners. The food is always good and the desserts are to die for - all very traditional and homemade. The staff can be a little cool but as they are always busy and polite) this is a minor detail. The prices are moderate but the food always excells!! I would gladly come here again and again and hope to do so

What a superb dinning experience. I had initially called in for lunch after a recommendation and was very impressed by the freshness and flavours of the food. The restaurant itself was very warm and welcoming and the staff equally so. Even though it was extremely busy we didn't have to wait and the food was to die for. I was so impressed I enquired about dinner and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a totally different menu. I arrived for dinner expecting to see the brown cafe style ambience I had enjoyed at lunch the previous day. I could not believe the transformation. Crisp white tablecloths/linen and candlelight which beautifully transformed the art and sculptures. The menu was extensive and so I had a hard time choosing. I asked for a recommendation and was over the moon when my food arrived. Full portions of extremely tasty and well prepared food. Great selection of wines and the service was friendly warm and perfectly timed. I would happily eat there 5 nights a week and since the value for money was so good, would find it hard to go back to run of the mill restaurants. An absolute must for anyone. It's so understated. Nothing not to like and such a wide variety of fresh and tasty food. It seemed to be a very popular so I would imagine you'd need to book in advance.

I am a regular visitor to this restaurant for lunch & I love both the atmosphere and the food. The fresh homemade desserts on display as you walk through the door are a welcoming sight, and taste amazing. The only drawback is the fact that the service can be very slow. This seems to be entirely due to the fact that they are so busy, with not enough waiters / waitresses, but the staff themselves are always very nice.

This was my first visit & I ordered from the regular menu for lunch, as our waitress didn't give us the details of the specials, so I feel I may have enjoyed some of those more. I had plaice, which seemed fresh but the accompanying veg was diappointing & the portions small. My sister who ate with me is vegetarian, I felt they were very poorly catered for with only two options on the menu & no others forthcoming when I asked the waitress. Not what I expect in a "foodie" establishment! All in all, did not live up to my expectations, although the quality of the food was good.

The atmosphere is usually good here as its always busy particularly at lunch time. The food is always excellant and while not cheap you always feel you get value for money. The service at lunch time is a bit hit and miss, but it has got to be the slowest restaurant in Cork for dinner, I have waited for 1hr for a main course before
