On many an occasion, I’ve walked into small village cafés to find the music suddenly stops, everyone stares, and I’m left shuffling self-consciously to a table only to be met with a sad affair of stale soda bread and watery tea lacking in both imagination and sustenance. Not the case with The Found Out Café in Innishannon, Co. Cork. Whether you go there for your first or fiftieth time, you are treated with the same sense of warm hospitality, generous servings, and friendly banter. If you are anything like me - which means you watch the clock with dread as it creeps towards lunchtime, and sigh at the thought of yet another sad sandwich and withered old apple at your desk - then The Found Out is the place for you. Whether it’s for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or afternoon tea - the Found Out fare is mouthwateringly fresh and varied. The food ranges from warm bowls of soulful soups, to delicious toasted sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and even dishes like mmm-mushroom risotto and spicy chicken burritos. You can accompany any of the aforementioned with a very satisfying cup or mug of tea, various coffee-themed cockle-warmers, or my personal favourite - a hearty cup of hot chocolate topped with a liberal dose of froth and marshmallows. And if you feel like being especially nice to yourself, the cakes and cookies on offer will persuade you that the world is nothing but good, and kind, and very, very sweet! Many people mindlessly pass through Innishannon on their route to somewhere else, but if they have ever been given a reason to stop, and stay, The Found Out is just that.
