had lunch with a group of 8 adults and 5 children on a bank holiday sunday recently,i've eaten here lots over the past few years- I love this hotel and restaurant , athmosphere is always good , and effecient friendly service in luxurious setting. Food was only ok this time, maybe the late lunch booking, 2.30pm was the reason, starters and desserts were good but mains let the side down served and tasting more like carvery food than restaurant dining . lunch was good value however and the dissapointing main courses didn't ruin the occasion

As it was a bank holiday weekend the restaurant was full but unfortunately the service suffered because of it. The staff were friendly and polite but service was very slow. The choices on the menu were very good but the food wasn't as good as we hoped. We may try it again during a less busy period as the potential is definately there.

Had never eaten here before. The restaurant was busy, which is a good sign for January. My first thought was that the white table clothes made the table look more like a cheap conference event rather than a contemporary restaurant - which the menu seemed to suggest it was. I ordered the Pork Belly and Prawn starter which was lovely. Unfortunately the beef stir fry had so much soy sauce that it was too salty and I struggled to get through half of it. The Chocloate & Malteaser Moose was a bit disappointing, it was too heavy and I asssumed that the malteasers would be crushed up into the moose, like that of a Malteaser cheesecake but it was presented with 3 malteasers on top. Service was good, a cracked glass was promptly replaced and as the wine we had odered wasn't in stock we were recommended another by the manager. Can be a great restaurant after some minor changes

We stayed here for 3 nights and this meal was included in our package. I was a little aprehensive at first becasue I would not normally eat this sort of food. However, I was delighted we went here, it was one of the nicest meals I have had in a long time. Service was great and staff were very friendly. Would highly reccommend this restaurant. Excellent food

Excellent Service, Excellent food. We booked dinner on a very busy Saturday night at Zings, and had a great meal. Even though the restaurant was extremely busy, the waiting staff were very attentive, friendly and informative. I ordered pork belly for mains which was served with roasted apples, and my other half had a sirloin steak (it looked aged and was very tasty) with béarnaise. We also were served mashed potatoes and roasted root veg. A crème brulee for desert was really good, one of the best I’ve had in a while and the cheese plate consisted of three Irish cheeses with plenty of grapes, fruit, chutney and water biscuits. In total the bill was less than €90, and that included a bottle of wine for €28. Overall we were very impressed, and the prices are very reasonable. A big thumbs up for Zings!

I met a friend for lunch here yesterday. It's a really relaxing and comfortable environment but the service and the food leave a lot to be desired. The staff were unattentative and it over 45 minutes for me to get my order of seafood chowder which wasn't worth the wait as it turned out to be a salty bowl of creamy with afew token pieces of fish. I was told I would not be charged for it because it took so long for it to arrive.

We arrived at the Maryborough House Hotel on the Friday the10th of April at around 3PM in the afternoon. We ordered a late lunch from Zings- white flour baps with baked ham and a side salad. I was very surprised at the audacity of the kitchen staff to serve baps which were not just stale- they were rock hard- I banged them off the table to the surprise of my wife and some of the other people in our party. Latte was served- which was 80% foam, while Americanos were frankly cold. Dinner that evening started off badly- the bread served with the starter was inedible- it was almost pure salt. The waiter tasted it, and removed it. The soup (which was tasty) was cold. My maincourse of peppered chicken with mash was quite tasteless. My wife's chicken with rice had a distinct lack of sauce. She requested more- her dish was removed to the kitchen and then brought back- she was advised to 'look under the rice to find the sauce'. Bizarre. Dessert of tarte tatin was frankly delicious and cannot be faulted- shame about the rest of the meal. The staff were courteous and professional throughout. Breakfast the following morning was reasonable- however the fried mushrooms could best be described as antiquities served up on a plate. We enjoyed our meal nonetheless. Dinner that evening was very unfortunately a repitition of the previous evening- with the exception that the bread served with starters was now quite edible. Its an expensive restaurant- with a good reputation- and while the staff were great- the standard of the food was sadly lacking. I am still fuming at the audacity the kitchen staff had to serve ham baps that past the point of simply being stale though- they were more akin to weapons of destruction......... I accept it was Easter weekend- but the standard of food and beverage preparation was appalling. I would not recommend anyone visit this restaurant out of choice- we only had a second meal there because it was included in the deal for staying the weekend.

Ate here recently in a big Group. It was very busy but the service was good the whole time. I had Red Mullet in curry type dressing to start which i was quite disappointed with. Others seemed happier with their choice however. It was the Steak and oxtail with beetroot. The streak was cooked excellently but i was dissapointed with the veg and potatoes that came with it. a decent meal but probably not worth what we paid

I too was pleasently surprised by how the food was here. A good ranges of choices and the quality is good. you would not go here for the atmosphere though as it is quite stilted.

I was a bit reluctant about the hotel-with-dinner package, having been caught out by bad hotel dinner deals before, but the standard here is very high. The bar opens out onto the garden, which gives the whole place a laid back summery vibe at this time of year. The service and the decor in the dining room are trying to be luxurious and are doing a pretty good job of it (not helped by erratic background music). The cooking is clever, and carefully executed, and the ingredients are good. Few places in Cork are attempting this style of top-end cooking, but the whole 'top-end' attitude has as many problems as it has benefits. The complaint here is that they are trying too hard with the design of the menu. It was no fault of the fish, or of the cook, that the Monkfish with Parma ham almost ended up being a fashion-victim. The failing was that a lovely piece of fish was served on a silly squiggle of red-wine reduction, when what it needed was a proper sauce to bring the flavours together. Creme brulee (which, it should be admitted, I didn't order) needs no messing around with, but here it comes coffee flavoured and with a silly crowd of accoutrement's. All in all this is a very pleasant place for dinner, especially on a summer evening. Much was excellent - chocolate orange quenelle deserves a special mention for its dense texture, the quality of its chocolate, and the boldly bitter fresh orange). There's enough skill in the kitchen, and more than enough charm in the locale, to make this an absolutely first rate place - but they badly need to rewrite their menu so as to (1) put their quality ingredients front and centre, (2) get rid of the stupid out-of-season veg and (3) stop trying to justify the prices with fancy technique and let the quality speak for itself.
