Arrived around three so the place was practically empty and there was no problem getting served. Staff was efficient. Ordered steak sandwhich, which came with side salad and fries and Baked Ardsallagh Goats Cheeseon a crispy crouton with roast beetroot, orange & chickpea salad, All though all the food was tasty the salad with the Ardsallagh cheese was very small, there was hardly any chick peas, no orange or roast beetroot, a little dissapointing.

Been here a number of times in the evening now. I think the food is really good. I tend to get the steak and it is always tender. My girlfriend would get the curry and she loves that. Nice and reasonable and staff are nice. If you're there on a Saturday night, there's normally a band on straight after so you can start and finish the night there.

We normally don't eat in barrys because we had a bad experience there a few years back, but as I had been given a voucher for Christmas, we decided to try the Sunday lunch there. When we arrived the place was packed with diners and we struggled to get seating that suited us and small boy. When we did get seating, Freda joined the que for the carvery. The que was very slow moving and I felt they could have been a bit better in this area. As we were going to eat again later in the day we only wanted something light but Barrys were not doing a sandwich menu. I opted for a half portion of the salmon and Freda had the warm chicken salad. When Freda enquired about the half portion she was told it would be €9.50 as opposed to €12.95 for the full portion. She considered this bad value so she ordered the full portion and did not get a baby bowl for small boy as he would have some of the salmon. Freda said that her salad was delicious and she really enjoyed it. I shared the salmon with small boy and he seemed to enjoy it too. I thought that it could have done with a bit more sauce as my overall feeling was that the dish was quite dry. mashed and roast potatoes, cabbage and carrots would have benefitted with a gravy or some of the sauce that accompanied the salmon. Over all not bad but when the voucher is used up I would not be a frequent visitor of Barrys. having said all that, they must be doing something right as the place was packed.

Barrys of Douglas was originally just a busy pub, but over the years it has been transformed into a fine eating emporium with an amazing bar area and equally good outdoor area. On a recent business trip to Cork, I popped in for a late lunch. Being a bit of a fish lover, I had the Seafood Chowder as a starter, which was cooked to perfection - not too creamy, but full of flavour and fresh ingredients. As a main course, I had the Thai Green curry which was abundant in flavour and aroma. For a casual bar/restaurant, Barry's excels in terms of extremely efficient waiting staff, food, presentation and price. I forgot to mention that it was a Wednesday when I dined here, at 3pm, and the place was buzzing. Speaks for itself, really! A great spot. I will return.

On April 7th we went to dinner in Barrys of Doughlas which was nearby to Maryborough House Hotel where we were staying. We had no booking ( did not think one would be required for a midweek dinner) and we were facilitated. We found the menu excellent and extremely good value for money. The service too was excellent. I would recommend making a booking as on the night of our visit the restaurant as very busy with a lot of parties there.

Have stayed away from eating here for a long time due to mixed reviews-most of which weren't very complimentary. Had lunch over the Christmas and ordered a chicken wrap and chips from the menu. The chicken wrap was surprisingly good as they can easily taste bland. However the chips arrived a good 5 mins before the wrap and were cold when the sandwich arrived. I also noticed that the Turkey on the carvery ran out at only 1.20 and was not replaced which can only be a major disappointment for anyone coming to lunch from then on. All in all, service was alright, food was ok but for the price it's definitely not worth it, either lower the price or get in some decent chefs!

I have eaten here on numerous and I really enjoyed it. €15 for a burger, chips and salad is expensive. The bar has a good atmosphere, would return

I have eaten here on numerous occasions and it is one of those places that likes to think it is better than it is! A little bit of a pretentious bar! A bar that thinks it is a high class restaurant - but its not! The food is average, at best! On this occasion, I had a burger, which to say was over-cooked is an understatement! The outside was black and hard. Once I peeled the crusty skin off, it was ok inside. Still though, €15 for a burger, chips and a little salad is very expensive. The bar has a pretty good atmosphere, even on a Wednesday night! Have dinner elsewhere and come in here for a drink after.

went there with a big group of friends and we were all quite happy with the meal. Amongst the starters, the monkfish and scallops skewers were to die for, the goats cheese salad and the monkfish goujons were very nice. The steak sandwich was excellent. On the down side the cajun chicken was a bit too spicy and the chicken with jalapenos cream was too dry. Amongst the desserts, the truffles were fantastic and the chocolate cake very nice too. The coconut and malibu ice-cream was disappointing as it tasted like a vanilla ice-cream with tiny pieces of coconut. It also seemed to have been in the fridge for a long time. the pineapple pieces with chilli were nice though.

went there with a group of friends on a thursday night. for starters we had, the duck spring rolls, the black pudding, and for mains we had the monkfish and scallops, the salad, the vegtable stir fry with black bean. over all the food was nice. although the fish dish was overcooked. the atmosphere was lovely and good value for what we had. the cocktails we had after were very very nice. would definatley come back.

went here unplanned after another restaurant messed up our booking - never going there again! Luckily Barrys had a free table for 5. Shared a few starters, and I had the steak for main - which was absolutely delicious - one of the best i've had in Ireland. Really tender and succulent, cooked to perfection. Service was very attentive - only minus was they forgot a portion of chips - and then brought 2 - BONUS! desserts - delicious. Will be going back.

I eat and drink here quite regularly. Food is always good but the passing traffic through the bar to the smoking area is off putting. Staff can be under too much pressure at times. Overall a good place for starting a night out rather than a romantic meal. :-)

I eat here all the time, and i find it to be very consistent. Food is always tasty and well presented. The staff are always friendly and professional, if not a little under pressure at times, although i imagine its to be expected given that it is a bar/restaurant!

Ate here Saturday night, food was lovely, has improved in the last 6 months I think. However you are essentially paying restaurant prices for barfood - 8oz fillet steak is €29 & there is contstant traffic through the restaurant to the smoking area. That said, it's always busy so there's always an atmosphere.

Very average food. Went there recently and they could not get a steak and chips order right. Over cooked steak and all the salad and garnish you would want. Unfortunately I specified I did not want this on my plate.

Well I used to go here alot when I lived near Douglas. They had this starter which was noodles and little pieces of duck and it was beautiful and they had these real oven with a little drizzle of oil proper home thick cut chips and sometimes good steak. But they changed the menu. Took the noodles off and the home chips and its gone a little down hill. The last three times i have gone we have had to complain about the steak being cooked wrong and the slow service. Its a shame it had something at one stage but now its overpriced and just not good enough.

A nice casual place to eat, a bit overpriced for what is essentially Bar food, staff were friendly and the service was prompt. Overall it is a nice place to eat but definatly does not have restaurant feel.

went here for lunch on saturday afternoon, the carvery had finished completely by 4 so just got sandwiches, and soup. Both came at different times. Overall it was fine, but a little slow and has to wait to pay bill for ages. Was surprised at how expensive the a la carte menu seems but haven't yet tried it.

Barrys is a great spot for a casual bite to eat after work although the menu is a bit fish orientated for my liking it is a great spot. The fact that you can have anything you like to drink with your meal is fab!

Barry's of Douglas is a great place to eat if you wish to meet locals and enjoy a pub feeling as you eat. Great for a big party of people, as you can always join the bar after your meal and enjoy the craic.

Someplace I thought I would hate but does exactly what it says on the tip, great pub food and good price with a nice buzz. It is nothing special but at the level it is targeting at hits the mark.
