This is my second time eating in this restaurant, we had booked a table for 30 people to celebrate a 21st. The service was excellent, we could choose the early bird menu, which is 3 courses, a very good variety on this, or we could take from the main menu. They brought all the food out at the same time and for a party that size this was excellent. I had the fish cakes, which were lovely, served with a salad and home made wedges and sweet chilli sauce on the side, they were two fairly large enough fish cakes, and I certainly had enough on my plate, followed by desert of sticky toffee pavlova, divine. Have to say overall, service and food was excellent. Would definately recommend it.

Three of us dined here on Saturday evening. It was pretty busy but staff were very pleasant and courteous and there was no delay with service. Our salads of chicken and bacon were so generous and flavoursome as was the steak dinner. My only moan and for me it is a big one - Desserts. We saw them in the cabinet. They were the kind you get in so many restaurants nowadays - bought in, manufactured, synthetic. Not good at anytime and p;articularly NOT for an evening meal. Why, oh why does a good manager allow that to happen -the winding up of a very good meal leaving such a sour taste? Endless cookery books out there jumping out at us with mouth-watering desserts which we expect to enjoy when we go for a meal even if there was an extra charge....

We dined here for a birthday party on a random Wednesday in February. There were 4 in our party. I found the menu to be quite nice, and having dined here quite a bit, I'm used to some of the options they have. We chose the early bird or special offer menu on this visit, and I was kinda disappointed with the menu choices to begin with; I finally chose the pork belly, which was not very nice, and instead of being a nice crisp dish, ended up being a load of fat with very little meat. - It has put me right off pork belly. Apart from that, everything else was nice, and the staff were attentive too. We were seated around halfway down, by the window, with plenty of room around us - sometimes I feel they tend to pack in too many tables, and while this is understandable on busy nights, I think they should remove some during slower nights, just to relax the setting a bit. Overall: great price, good service, food, generally okay, but a bit iffy on this occasion.

In general was very pleased with Amicus. My meal was very good. Portions generous and tasty. My partner's steak however was medium-well when she asked for medium-rare. This was replaced quickly and with little fuss. The atmosphere was casual and the service was pretty good in general. It is a very long restaurant and it was a bit difficult to get the waiter's attention when he was the other end. Overall we were pleased. Value wasn't bad.

After reading some of the reviews on this restaurant, I thought I would post some of my own. I have dined here on a number of occasions and it is my honest opinion that this restaurant serves some of the tastiest salads in town and I have had to put a lot of effort into reproducing something similar myself at home, I'd love to know what Balsamic vinegar these guys use... but I can guarantee you that it isnt cheap. The restaurant offers a wide range of courses but I have to agree with the comments regarding the nacho's... in so far as yes, they are rubbish. To sum up I would say that Amicus is a very good and popular reastaurant with some really good dishes, far better than some of it's local competitors but the restaurant needs to address a few poor dishes on its menu (mainly the fun food which seems to be very popular with a lot of restaurants in this area). If you know how to avoid beer dishes, then this place does offer some cracking food and very reasonable prices.

Five of us sat in for an early bird. The food was excellent. We had a range of main courses and the general agreement was satisfaction all round. Some had starters others opted for the glass of wine. This is a nice idea as starter [and they were very big] main course, and dessert at 6 in the evening is a bit heavy. I had a nice Italian red and a seafood pizza. A good range of shellfish appeared through the pizza. Cajun salads were well received by those who had them, as two of us knocked back the vino. A main course beef burger came with everything bar the kitchen sink. Desserts and a variety of coffees finished off a very enjoyable meal. Maybe it was asking a bit too much but there was a time lag as the main courses arrived, but the orders were wide and varied. It’s still preferable to have all eaters go to post more or less together. As we worked our way through our meal over about 90 minutes the restaurant filled up considerable and we could see there were many satisfied diners adding to a very pleasant atmosphere.

We stopped off in Douglas on a Sat evening on the way to West Cork and went to Amica based on the reviews on Menu Pages. On arrival there was a buzz about the place and it was busy. I had the spicy wings for starter which were tasty but came without the dip. Trying to get the attention of a member of staff wasn't easy as they tended to walk around without making eye contact. I had the Indian chicken curry for a main which was watery and the popadom was stale. My friend ordered Nachos from the tapas menu. The Nachos were from a packet and the salsa tasted like it was from a jar. Basically it was pretty rubbish. We decided not to bother with desert but trying to pay and go was quite hard as again trying to get the attention of staff was very difficult.

its been a while since I've been in Douglas and as amicus is my favourite restaurant in town, i return to amicus in Douglas after a long time to find it is still excellent, still good value, still has gorgeous food, location is great as there is free parking out side its door and the smoking area is nice and sheltered, love the big windows as they let in so much light, nice and warm on a sunny day. thank you for a lovely lunch, i had fish cakes with salad they tasted really good with a good amount of fish in them, my friend had the baked haddock, looked delicious. i would highly recommend this restaurant

Wonderful restaurant. The only comfortable restaurant in Douglas with loads of space Real food at great value and with very good services. a good size early set menu on offer at only 21.95 for 3 courses and glass of wine or beer as well as a full a la carte menu,We had dinner last night at around 7.30 and the restaurant was very busy for a wed night which gives a good atmosphere. Now i love curry and as i saw it on the menu i had to have it, It was excellent, fantastic taste in a large bowl with rice on the side, some poppadoms and chutney, My friend had the symphony of seafood which had about 5 different types of fish in it, very tasty, to start we shared a selection of breads & dips, lovely home made fresh breads with 3 different types of dips, with a couple glass's of wine the night was sorted, thanks again amicus

Nice restaurant and good service. New reduced menu which has a good variety but a pity they dropped the spaghetti bolognaise. Got the fajitas whish were tasty, could do two people. Good value 21.95 early bird with delicious deserts.

Early Bird Menu excellent value at €24.95! There was a very good choice of dishes on the menu to cater for all dietary needs and tastes. Very generous portions of quality food. The service was very quick and efficient considering the restaurant was very busy, leaving just enough time between each course. This was our first visit to Amicus in Douglas and we will certainly be back.

Went here for late lunch on Saturday.. Just for a pitta and burger.. Place was pretty quiet so we got seated quickly but half way through my chicken pitta I found a long black hair. I brought this to the attention of the waitress and she went away. We ordered 2 coffee's and when the bill came there was no reduction to the bill and no apology about the hair in my food. I was very disappointed and even though we only live 5 minutes walk from Amicus we will not be going here again and will not be recommending it to anyone in the future.

We ate here with our parents recently and it was fantastic. Lovely restaurant and ambience. Great menu and decent portions of very tasty food. The service was the best I have seen in a long time. The staff were attentive and fast without swamping you. I would recommend that they vamp up the bathrooms a little bit. They weren't dirty but the felt a bit overlooked compared to the lovely modern dining area. I would certainly eat here again with friends or family.

Amicus seems to me one of those restaurants that is fine for lunch from time to time, but not somewhere you'd like to go for a nice evening out! I went with a friend and ordered a beef and blue cheese salad, which was tasty, but not very healthy I'd imagine! My friend had the fishsticks, which she enjoyed, but the plate came almost covered with very large pools of tartar sauce - it was totally overdone. The tap-water is served in stainless steel jugs, so there is always a metallic taste off it. Also it's impossible to find any of the waiting staff to bring the bill. They seem to want you to come to the counter to pay, which is a little irritating if you want to split the bill or calculate a tip.

Two friends and I decided to go to Amicus in Douglas for an evening meal and a chat last night at 8pm. I’d heard about the Early Bird menu and it sounded like good value, but unfortunately my experience of the restaurant left me unimpressed. I ordered nachos for starter, which came in a large plate drowned under lashings of guacamole, sour cream and melted cheese – alright though, if a little big for a starter. The restaurant is big, but was only half full so no noise problems or a feeling of overcrowding. Two out of the three of us has a problem with the main course. I myself am vegetarian, and on tasting my “vegetarian” stir fry it was clear that the sauce at least had been cooked with meat, so it didn’t surprise me that I found a bit of chicken in my dish. I was disgusted, but the waitress who was serving our table was very apologetic, and took my order for a Florentine pizza instead. Like I said this girl was very nice and was pleased with how she dealt with my complaint, not overly “false” apologetic, but not brushing the matter over. My friend who ordered a chicken salad was not happy with the way the dish was served, as the salad was basically 2 lumps of chicken with a couple of slices of bacon fried in dirty oil on top of a lot of lettuce – not really a salad in other words. The dessert selection was ok, portions again on the large side. Overall, paid twenty euro each for 3 courses of food I could have cooked better at home for cheaper. I’m still wondering whether my stir fry had actually had chicken taken out of it before being brought to the table (it’s the first time I’ve ever been to a restaurant where I could taste something was not right on my first bite). I won’t be recommending it or going back there though for the quality of food overall and not just that mistake.

Visited here twice and was not very impressed. The first time I went here, I was quite disappointed as I just basically did not like the food. The second time I reluctantly returned here was for lunch and the only reason I returned was because it was the nearest place we could find at the time. Again, I just was not impressed. Also, I found the food was luke warm on both occasions

We went to Amicus for a Birthday meal for my Son. I was glad to see that it was busy for a Tuesday night. Service was very good and the staff were very pleasant. One of the group went for the early bird for 20 euro. His choice was nachos, pizza and sponge pudding and he was very happy. 2 had Rib eye steak and these were also nice. I shared chicken wings for starter and had trio of fish, the salmon was nice the other fish were only ok., the sauce was nice but luke warm. This was served with mash and vegetables, the vegetables were carrots and onion, a strange combination I thought, mash was good and piping hot. I shared a Tiramisu for dessert and it was ok. All in all it was a nice meal out but nothing special, suitable for families who need a good choice although sometimes too much choice puts me off.

Amicus are doing an early bird special 2 courses and a glass of wine for 20 euro. A group of us decided to try the place out last night. Amicus was very quite and has formal kitchen type feel to it, being so quiet didnt help either. A few of us got starters as part of the menu, brushetta which was good, and nachos which were poor (guacamole and salsa just out of a tin, thrown on plain store bought nachos) Some of the mains were highly praised with everyone enjoying the meat dishes (steak, lamb and ribs) but the pizzas were absolutely shocking. Cooked with very little cheese on a burned hard base, and covered for some strange reason in paprika. Amicus is doing some things right but given the real hit and miss quality about the place I won't be back

Visted here on the Saturday evening of Valentines weekend with 4 friends it was very busy but we were seated at a round table which could host 6. The service was very attentive without being in your face and on the night it was in it I was surprised as the place was full to capacity we had a booking for 730pm but had received a call to remind us that there was another booking after this however during the meal we never felt rushed and the food was top class and the service excellent, the menu has something to suit all tastes and reasonably prices so all were happy, I would highly recommend it.

A nice space for food but not without it's short comings. Visted Amicus twice since the New Year, both times with my girlfriend. First experience was of brunch and while I found it over priced and thought the components to be low quality, the atmosphere was great for a bustling Saturday morning. The service was brisk and gruff despite a large amount of staff appearing to be present. My most recent trip to Amicus last Friday night was not as memorable but it did the job. Both started with a shared Ceasar salad which was a tad dry but very bountiful for a single serve. Girlfriend had the lasange and chips and found the lasange to be very dry in parts but great in other parts. Chips were fantastic and light however. I went with the Spicy Calzone and side salad. The "spice" came from about 2 whole red chiles which had be hacked into pieces and fired atop a decent but painfully under seasoned bolognaise sauce and a handfull of flavourless mozzarella. The calzone was made out of a 12" size piece of pizza dough which tasted great and airy. The chickpea side salad was fantastic and a great portion size. I personally found the presentation very awkward - the calzone and the salad were served together on a wooden pizza board. It was very difficult to manoeuvre the board around easily. Service again was very gruff, spent a solid ten minutes trying to flag someone down for a bill, give up and walk towards the till only to be chased as if we were going to leave without paying.

after eating here about 3 times I must say that this is mediocre food in a mediocre setting. While the menu is 'funky' and 'modern' a lot can be said for the quality of the food which is often disappointing. While my mind seems to have blocked out some of the dishes that I, my friends and family have tried, I certainly won't be forgetting the dry lasagna I had on my most recent (and hopefully last) visit. Service is ok but not great and there are too many tiny tables squashed in there. While i understand the need to get the most out of floor space, it shouldn't harm the customer's experience.

I ate here with my girlfriend between 7-8pm, II was hoping for a nice quiet seat but I wasn't given an option and I was ushered to a small table inbetween large groups of people who were eating. This made conversation very hard as everyone was nearly sitting on top of each other, very awkward and very sad to see a restaurant jamming as many people into the one corner instead of given people the experience that they have paid for. The food was average with too much emphasis on quantity rather than quality. The atmosphere was shocking and for this alone, I would not return. The service is excellent with plenty of staff and good customer service so I didn't want to make a scene about my experience especially when everyone would be able to hear what I was saying at the tables beside me. Overall value for money is not what I expected I wasn't going to place a review but recently one of my friends had much the same experience and I felt I should have reviewed it at the time to ensure that no-one else would be disappointed. Thanks for your time. Regards K

Not great, not a place I would recommend for a night out. The food is only ok, starters were average and the mains were slightly better. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a quick bite before heading for a few pints in Douglas.

Leaving party for one of my best friends who is going down under. 14 of us book for 8pm. A really really great night. From starters to desserts even the cocktails were great. The service was very friendly and always made sure we had everything. We were all very happy with the food especially the fish. We will be back again.

Relatively dissapointing dinner visit for 8 of us. Menu tries to cover too many styles of cooking. We had a very average meal including overcooked pork fillet and some dissapointing rib eyes. The star of the meal was a very well cooked pizza. Wine list is dissapointing even if reasonably priced although we returned our first choice as the wine had become "fortified". Staff tried but could have been a little more attentive as the place was relatively quiet.

I didnt enjoy my experience here. I ordered a steak sandwich at a reasonably priced €12.50. The steak arived under cooked between two slices of untoasted thick white bread. All the juices for the mushrooms, steak and onions make the bread into something that resembles soggy weetabix. Not appetizing at all. The steak was also undercooked. The other diner had spaggetti and said the garlic bread was the highlight. Enough Said

Very busy restaurant and must book well in advance.. I dont know why. Food isnt great. My streak was ordered medium and it came dry and chewy. Food was very dissapointing for both of us. Seats are so close to each other that you probably will hit elbos with other couple at least 5 times during your meal and also forget about private talk.. Is not expensive but will not go back there again.

Been there twice now in amicus douglas, on a wednesday and friday night. The first night with 4 work friends and the second a party of 6 for a family birthday. Both times the have been great. The waiter was kind and always made sure we had everything even asked whos birthday it was. Food is good and not over price which really helps now a days. I like the buzz in the place and I find the decore new and it gives the place a clean feeling which really helps me when eating out.For sure going again for christmas with the girls.

Went here for lunch recently with my other half. it was both our first time going to Amicus in Douglas and we had very high expectations from previous vists to the Amicus in Cork City. We were both very impressed with the food, I got a chicken and bacon salad, whilst my partner got the beef salad. I got a medium sized salad and it was still very big, i was unable to finish it but it was absolutly gorgeous. My parter got a large salad and it certainly was that, Very big feed!!! We also got a basket of bread which is a great selection of white, brown and tomato breads. The service i felt wasn't great, the servers were very slow to take our order and bring the bill.

My partner, myself and my 4yr old enjoyed a lovely meal at the Amicus. It was a tues early evening and surprisingly busy with a variety of folks enjoying their meals. The atmosphere was good and the food was v.good considering the amount of choices on offer on the menu that had to be produced by the chef and staff. Even under pressure The staffs' attitude and service was excellent, they were efficient, friendly and attentive. The only downside was as a reviewer mentioned earlier on... is that the noise level when busy can really grate on your nerves after awhile. But the bottom line is... I would go back there again for the food, service and atmosphere. I would recommend the Amicus as an amazingly efficient restauraunt that manages to have lot's of choice on the menu with a high service level. A good dining experience with satisfying food that will bring you back for more.

We went for a girly meal here in Douglas for a change so as not to go to town. I am a huge fan of Amicus in town and was really disappointed by the Douglas one. It majorly lacks atmosphere, the decor is cold and uncomfortable and the service left a lot to be desired. We had a nice meal anyway, the food is up to the same Amicus standard but I would not go here again I would go into town instead!

Good food, noisy atmosphere. Amicus is a good choice for lunch or dinner, but it can get extremely noisy when its busy - which is almost all of the time. I've had two really good dinners here. The bread/dips platter to start is really good as are their salads and lamb dishes. A friend had a seafood pasta with cream sauce and thought it was bland, but other than that from a table of four it was excellent. Service is good. Prices are fine - there is an early bird special that is excellent value. A good spot all round!

Amicus in Paul street was one of my favourite places to eat for a long time, however the new restaurant in Douglas is not half as good as the old one in town. The food is fine and good value IMO but the atmosphere in the new restaurant is just non-existent. Service was OK. The restaurant was not at all comfy and was actually kind of cold. Another wierd issue was the water tasted very strange. The waitress advised that all douglas water tasted like that but it's not like that in other restaurants in Douglas.

The evening didn't start well as we were ignored by three staff at 'reception' for a few minutes until they found the time to say hello and locate our booking. A small issue but annoying nonetheless. The restaurant was busy-ish but not manic, so there was no excuse for not extending us a polite hello while we when we arrived. However the service from then on was prompt and efficient without being particularly friendly (besides one guy who was very nice). I had the Moules Mariniere and the boyfriend had Bruschetta - both of which were very nice - however some bread with my starter would have been nice. For main I had the Lamb and Chorizio skewer which, again, was very enjoyable but the Chorizo is a bit overpowering. He had the sirloin steak which was good if slightly overdone The accompaning Argentinian Malbec was delicious and good value at about €22. I had the Tiramasu for dessert which was the most dissapointing part of the meal. €7 for what was basically flavoured cream and soggy ladyfingers at the base put a disapointing end to the meal. Overall, bedisdes the poor start and finish it was an enjoyable meal and experience, would go back.

Good value, tasty food. I usually order the lamb espetadas but sometimes it's nicer than other times. Their chocolate dessert is v nice. Toffee pavalova is not very toffee and the Tiramisu says it comes with chocolate?!? I was searching for it... Def wouldn't order that again, far too much cream on top of it and not coffee tasting. Service has always been v good in there, but if your sitting out of waiters view, it can be hard to get their attention sometimes. If you are going there as a couple, i would definitely ask for a table which is not near a big group! It's a great place for an occasion with a group of people, but you definitely don't want to be sitting next to them. Can b v loud from experience!

I've been a firm fan of Amicus since it's pokey beginnings off Paul Street, to it's relocation to the Gingerbread House, and now it's new restaurant in Douglas. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with it's new venture. I have been there twice now - both during daylight hours - and have found the restaurant seriously lacking in warmth and atmosphere. I realise that the location of the restaurant is responsible for it's tendency to be dark internally - but this could be easily tackled with an improvement in the general lighting, flooring, and even something as simple as having nightlights on the table all day, not just in the evening. While many of the staff are friendly, efficient, and helpful - others seem to seriously lack interest. However, the food is every bit as good as it is in the Amicus in town so no complaints there. In fact, the food is about the only thing drawing me back to Amicus in Douglas. My advice: re-jig the superficial stuff - like the lighting, flooring, and some of the staff - and you're on to a winner.

Having read the most recent reviews I hate to spoil the run of positive comments but quite honestly I had lunch there with a small group and it was totallly uninspiring. Love the premises but the food was poor. I had the "fish fingers" and it was tasteless- another had the vegetarian chow-mein and it seemed to be composed entirely of onion- another had the chicken tika masala and it looked ok but acccompanied by two slices of bread! What was that about? why not pappadams? another had the chicken burger and another the chicken creole both lackluster. Another had the trout special of the day and it was poor. The service was listless but efficient. The prices are reasonable but the overall eating experience was forgettable. Won't be back!

Have eaten on Amicus twice now, and both times have had a beautiful meal, service very good, our waitress especially was brilliant! Will def be returning, and recommending to friends.(The only tiny bad thing was that the pastry on the apple pie was not cooked enough hense made the pastry quite soggy!!)

Always been a fan of Amicus in the city so was looking forward to comparing Dougals. Wasn't disappointed! Staff are very welcoming & 1 particular girl Katie was exceptional. Food was excellent & atmosphere was perfect, good value & great competition for Dougals.

I have eater here a few times & really enjoy it, tho in part as I am tired of the other options in Douglas. The restaurant was very busy but the waitstaff were still helpful & nice, & we didn't have a long wait for our meals. In my opinion the food is good for this type of restaurant.

Was looking forward to trying out this new restaurant, seeing as I always enjoyed its city version. There were only 3 other tables occupied when we visited - 6pm on a friday, and couldn't believe when were seated right next to another couple. He saw the error and reseated us after a few minutes. That would be my only complaint about the place - the tables (especially the ones for 2) are way too close together. You cannot have a private conversation. I guess they're trying to optimise the number of diners. The food itself was very tasty - and represented real good value for money - which is a rare feature in restaurants. My own main course of curry was just what a i expected, and easily matched the version provided by another well known Douglas restaurant. I prefer to keep trying new places as opposed to returning - but I definitely will be breaking the habit in this case.

Went for a quick, quiet lunch with my sister. The brunch menu, which is served until 3, looks fab. We ordered pizza and they were delicious, crisp base with lovely veg. Only faulting the tomato sauce on my pizza (could have been dolmio). The staff were friendly and very prompt. The only fault of Amicuus is the size of the table means it looks very cluttered, without dishes. The Douglas Amicus is better than the one in Rory Gallagher place, in that you're not sitting on your neighbours lap! Douglas has plenty of space, just not on the tables! Good cheap food, good service.

This was our second visit to Amicus in Douglas, since it opened. I must say, the place was buzzing, but the service was still prompt and efficient. There were four of us, and we were all impressed with the food quality. We look forward to many more meals there. The one drawback, and hence the reason for the lower score in atmosphere, was due to our previous visit, which was early on a Monday night. The restaurant was about a quarter full when we took our seats, but it was a cold night outside, and every time the door opened, there was a chilly blast of air that went through the restaurant, even reaching us, where we were sitting hald way down the seating area. A minor complaint, but I wouldnt have liked to be sitting nearer the door! Other than that, the place is great.....badly needed in Douglas

I went there at 6pm with a party of 8. The service was very good. We were seated straight away. I had antipasti. It was very good, well presented with a good variety of items. For main course I had the lamb and chorizio kebab. This was nice but they only gave one kebab which wasnt enough. It was served with salad which there was too much of, especially too much lettuce. The americano coffee was fantastic. I didnt have a desert but some at my table did and they all approved.
