Hi, Had a lovely meal in Zak's recently. Restaurant has great ambience and a very attentive service, without being overpowering. Excellent variety on menu - lots of choice regardless of you preference. The plates were full - really good portion sizes and very tasty food. In addition the presentation was excellent. Its really good value We will be back

I came here with my boyfriend, It was very quiet but it was a Sunday night. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We both had tomato soup to start with it was delicious big portion which even I finished and that is a rarity. For mains I had the Pork steak wrapped in bacon with peach stuffing oh my god it was melt in the mouth beautiful, my boyfriend had the steak which he said was the best he ever had. I didn't have room for dessert although I so wanted one but my boyfriend had the apple crumble and a mocha which he said both were great. The next time we're in Cork we are definitely going to go back to Zaks.

OUTSTANDING! Myself and my husband ate in Zaks on 03/02/2012. We had a Grabone voucher. The meal was outstanding. We had mussels and baked goats cheese for starters.. Stuffed pork steak with a peach stuffing and a fillet steak with prawns. Apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding ....washed down with a bottle of house wine.(very nice)....two coffees and extra chips......42e !!!!!! The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was excellent. We will be going back to this lovely restaurant. Very highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I spent last weekend in Cork and booked a table in Zaks's after reading the promising reviews on Menu Pages! We arrived at the restaturant early and were warmly greeted and seated straight away. The decor in Zaks's is tasteful and comfortable and we felt very at ease in the relaxed surroundings. We both chose to go for the Early Bird option and were impressed with the choice of food available. My boyfriend decided on the Thai Fishcakes for starters and the Seafood Risotto for mains while I chose the Pesto Bruschetta for starters followed by the Sirloin Steak for mains. Each dish was freshly cooked and delicious. For desserts, we had the Chocolate Brownie served warm with Vanilla Ice cream and the Banoffi Pie. Both desserts were excellent. We finished our meal with a lovely hot chocolate and an americano.Zak's offers great food and great value and is well worth a visit.Throughout the evening, we received some of the friendliest service we have ever experienced and we both agreed that our meal at Zak's was one of the best we have ever had. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, and one we definitely hope to repeat on our next visit to Cork!

We dined in Zak's after collecting a friend from the Airport for a girly weekend. I really like Zak's for the choice of food. I had the seafood chowder and the warm chicken salad, both were very very tasty. We all agreed on a return visit soon.

I ate here with my family last saturday evening. The food was really good. The service was excellent. One dish came a bit later than the rest and a waiter brought us a free side to compensate which I thought was a really nice touch. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Prices were also reasonable. Will definitely be dining there again.

My other half and I had arranged a last minute night out in Cork but had no restaurant reservation. We spent 25 minutes browsing numerous eateries on both sides of the Lee. Quite by chance we found the most inconspicuous but wonderful little restaurant in the city! Zak's Restaurant on Marlboro Street. Everything from the service to the food is to be complimented at Zaks. We had no reservation but were seated immediately. The menu offered something for everyone. We missed the early bird but the evening menu was great . The drinks and food were very reasonably priced, the starters were generously proportioned and the main courses were excellent and cooked exactly as we had asked. The only suggestion we would make as new fans of this fantastic restaurant is the dessert menu offered no light dessert option. But overall, the experience is one of beautiful yet subtle decor, attentive and friendly waiting staff, and excellent food.

I go here almost every time I am in Cork & would highly reccomend a visit. Usually I go here for breakfast, but sometimes for lunch too. Everything, in my experience, is always perfectly cooked & excellent quality. I have occasionally observed others who have a small complaint & I have noticed that their concerns are always dealt with in a discreet, apologetic & generous manner. Lovely staff, very friendly & helpful. Very generous portions & great value for money.

Went here on 2 occasions recently, primarily for the price of the set menu. My first experience wasn't great - starters were good all round, very tasty fishcakes albeit lacking in a bit of fish but tasty all the same. So we thought we were off to a good start, however the mains were all barely warm on arrival. The 3 others I was with didn't mention it but I sent mine back to be heated up. I and another ordered the steak for main and we both ordered it medium-well and it arrived very well done and grey looking. It was served on a bed of supposedly fried onions which were raw but tossed in a bit of heated oil - not at all fried. I mentioned at the end that all the plates weren't hot on arrival and he said he would say it to the chef but he didn't mention it further and neither did we. My second visit was for dinner with a friend. I wanted to give the place the benefit of the doubt. I went for the same again as the set menu was limited and I had tasted 2 of the other dishes on my first visit from my friends plates and preferred my steak over the bland and dry chicken with mascarpone and tomatoes. Again the steak was over cooked. The were onions were a little more fried though there was a lot less of them. It is fine if you're looking for a filling meal on a budget but it's not somewhere I'd go to treat myself or a special occasion.

Ate here recently and had a mixed experience! I ordered salad and it was awful - seemingly it's a best seller but the salad was floating on the amount of salad dressing that had been put on the plate. It really was awful and there were bones in most of the roast chicken pieces. That said, they did provide a 2 for 1 voucher as an apology. Thing is it had to be used within 7 days as it was only valid till the end of the month it was near the end of the month when we visited. Also, when we entered the restaurant we were told where to sit by a waitress. Then another waitress came and told us to sit elsewhere.

I had the early bird offer in Zaks - it was worth every penny! I had fishcakes to start which eventhough had too much garlic for me they were lovely. I had a fantastic steak as a main and my favourite - banoffee - to finish it off. It was an excellent meal and all washed down buy a lovely house white. The service was great and we will be back....

We ducked into this restaurant to get out of the rain; it is a very comfortable restaurant and friendly staff. We ordered a BLT and the Beef burger both were served with salad and fries the food was prepared well and presented well and hit the right spot. This is a lovely restaurant with good service and lovely food. Another gem in Cork.

While visiting Cork last Saturday I looked up menu pages for some ideas, Zaks had a voucher for 2nd main meal free, so we went to check it out,as we arrived a couple were walking out so we asked if the food was good, they gave it a great review so we decided to give it a try. We didnt go for the voucher as they had a 3 course menu for 20euro.It was fab from the service to the food and the ambience,as soon as a tablee back when I am in came free there was a new couple waiting to take it, very friendly, great food, dont miss out, fantastic value, I will definetly be back when I visit Cork again.

Popped in for a late lunch last Saturday. Both of us had seafood chowder and shared a half bottle of sauvignon blanc. The wine was a bit bland and insipid but the food was incredible. Delicious chunks of salmon and smoked haddock with succulent mussels. Waiter was friendly and attentive and brought extra bread and butter when he accidentally spilt my bowl of chowder. Great value.

I ate here with my family over Christmas. The restaurant itself is nicely laid out and the staff are very plesant. The food is ok, average. The main problem I found with this restaurant was with the menu itself. The actual menu had paper-clips all over it. There were 'specials' selotaped to the cover... there was four different menus on offer...but only between certain times. It made the place feel very cheap. There were six of us eating but we ended up getting so confused that the waitress had to point to what we could order on the menu. The food was ok, we got the fishcakes for starters which were deepfried and very little fish. The steak was lovely, served with chips..I felt that a few vegetables would have been nice with it. Its a lovely place to meet up with friends however I wouldne come here for a romantice meal.... Overall, its an average restaurant. I feel that if the layout of the menu was improved, it would bring up the class and feel of the place.

I really want to like this place but I just don't. Atmosphere and service are excellent but I must say I just don't like the food, its pretty average. Had a burger there at lunch time recently and to be honest it just wasn't that nice...and as a result I just consider it a bit over priced. Staff are nice in fairness to them

used the two for one voucher we got off the site. i ordered the chicken breast on a bed of noodles with a baked potato. the chicken breats and noodles were prefect. i found the potato hard and left it, there was no need for it as the there was a generous amount of noodles on the plate. a simple side salad maybe instead would be nice. friendly and fast service, good value and i will be back. the location, its easy to find just off patrick street.

came for the good value, and good value it was. lovely steak at a great price. found service mixed - highly efficient guy v. obviously new and scatty girl. they were nice though. we were bothered by a drain type smell - im reluctant to use the word… but it may have been that....we were moved to another table but could still smell it. i hope its been sorted in the meantime but i have to say it has put us off going back.

I brought my girlfriend here on Saturday and we had the Early Bird. The setting was lovely and the staff friendly and all was well when the starter came out. I had the soup and she had the Pesto Garlic Bread. Both very nice. We both had the tagliatelle carbonara for the main course and it was disgusting. There was no carbonara. There was tagliatelle, bacon and mushrooms but in the place of the carbonara was a lot of oil. The bacon was very fatty and I also had a big chunk of fat minus bacon. My girlfriend had a big chunk of bacon that had obviously meant to be thrown in as separate pieces. We probably would have had the dessert had the main course even been average but we decided to just finish there. Disappointing given it had started so well.

Went for an early dinner here one weekday evening. We thought the menu was very good value for money and we really liked the restaurant itself. The interior was nicely decorated and comfortable. The food was very, very good, we couldn't fault it, but it just wasn't all that memorable. It was very nicely presented and tasty but it was nothing new or exciting. That said, we would probably come again as Zaks rated highly for us on value and service.

was in cork for the weekend - stumbled across this place and was pleasantly surprised. firstly the waitress was really nice. we had a look at the early bird menu but it didnt really have what we wanted so went off the main menu. for starters we had chowder and muscles - both were gorgeous - and the portions were huge - would have been plenty for a full lunch even then for the main meal with had burger and chips, and fillet steak and chips. both lovely only complaint would have been for the price of the steak - two small 4oz steaks really dont live up - but in saying htat they were cooked really nicely. dessert was fudge cake - but was a struggle - portion sizes are very generous a nice bottle of pinot grigio too - not bad money - all in all the bill was ok but id say nto the value you get on an early bird these days

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere and does a great dinner of steak and homemade chips, as well as a really good lunch of garlic ciabatta and chips which are delicious. Go for the early bird dinner if you are hungry as it is really good value. The wine they serve is also very nice.

Went there with the "2 for 1" voucher. It was amazing value and I was greatly surprised with the quality of the food. Both my friend and myself had the vegetarian option:an aubergine, tomato and mozzarella tower. It was delicious. Most of the people were going for the early bird option which looks very appealing as the portions looked big and a good price. I´ll go back to try it out.

We vistited this restaurant in the evening for the first time this weekend, having previously only had breakfast there. I loved the decor - the old photos from Cork were really interesting and the atmosphere was ideal for an intimate chat! The waiting staff was polite and efficient, and the food was served fairly promptly. I did find it a little odd that wine was served in quarter bottles instead of by the glass. The food...wasn't great I'm afraid. My boyfriend's burger tasted like it lacked enough seasoning, and my fish gratin was covered with a thick layer of melted red cheddar, whcih just seemed to cheapen it. Not great value for money all in all. I might try it again for breakfast but won't be rushing back for dinner I'm afraid.

Nice, friendly relaxed restaurant. Great value for money, and fantastic service. The early bird menu is great you would think with it being that much cheaper that the food would not be as nice but it has always been perfect..Keep up the great work

My Partner and myself went to zaks for a meal for my birthday.. We were not dissapointed. The early bird was supposed to end at half 7 and we had booked for that time and didn't expect to be offered the early bird menu. We were and it offered more choice than the ordinary menu. We were surprised by this. It was great value and there was huge portions, had trouble finishing the dessert. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive. 5 star service and would go back there again.

Went there for the first time with my friend for lunch. Before we went there, we browsed through their website. We were slightly surprised to see its a bit small from what illustrated in the website. But the decoration is really nice, I really like the historical pictures of Cork that they put up on the wall. The starters has not got much to offer, so we skipped them and go straight to main course. I had fish & chips while my friend ordered pizza. The portion is enormous! We were full when we finished. My friend even had leftovers pizza and brought them home. The price is reasonable as well. Maybe if the staff could smile more, that would be perfect. But probably its a busy afternoon for them. The food is served fast, nonetheless. I would definitely come back here again, really love the pictures.

I love the atmosphere in Zaks. Its a wonderful restaurant to go to on a date, especially during the evening time and the light from the candles really stand out. WE had a bit of a wait for the food, but it could have been just because it was busy that night. However the staff could have smiled a bit more ... its understandable that they would be a little stressed during rush time .. but our server rolled her eyes at us when we asked for more water. overall i would go back because, as i said, i love the ambience in the place. I had the baked salmon, and it was well cooked, not overly dry. it came with a dill sauce and my boyfriend kept trying to dip his fries into it.

I love the atmosphere in Zaks. Its a wonderful restaurant to go to on a date, especially during the evening time and the light from the candles really stand out. This place is really nice for the early bird menu, went in here with my boyfriend and we were really impressed the portions are huge so make sure you go in hungry if you are gettin the set menu! We both had the fajitas they were so good and had all the trimmings with including home made salsa. The only thing I didnt like was the banoffe pie for dessert as it was too rich. I think they could include a small glass of wine into the set menu as it would be a nice touch and would make me go back more often as it would be even better value!!

Was here for a meal on Valentines night. The setting was very romantic, candles, roses on the tables, heart chocolates instead of the usual mints with the bill and the menu was bound in red ribbon, which we thought was a nice touch! For starters we went for calamari (which was fantastic) and crab brulee, the brulee wasn't to mine or my friend's taste and thought afterwards that perhaps we should have opted for two calamari! For mains we had lamb and the fusilli pasta, which went down a treat. We were a bit stuffed so passed on desserts and as a treat had a bailey's coffee instead. Our waitress was extremely friendly and made our night . I will certainly return on my next trip to Cork but must warn you to watch out for the floor and be sure to wear suitable footwear with proper grips!

Was here last night for Valentines with my partner. They had a set menu for 29.95 which was one of the best offers around in the city that night. The starters wouldn't have had the best variety of options, but I had the goats cheese tart and my partner had the crab brulee. The tart was lovely but to be honest, I've had one elsewhere probably nicer, but that could just be my own taste! For mains we both had the steak - oh my gosh - absolutely incredible. Everything about the dish was perfect. Dessert really was sinful, I had the chocolate and walnut brownie...the center of it was heated and the chocolate just melted in your mouth, and the whole brownie was about the size of your normal large slice of chocolate cake. It was served with cream. My partner had the warm apple crumble with cream and ice cream (which I had a taste of too!) was delicious! Will certainly be coming here again

Went on a Fri evening with 2 friends for the early bird menu. Great value for money @ €17.50 for 2 courses. However my friend & I both ordered spaghetti carbonara for mains & I ended up with all the bacon & mushrooms & my friend really only had pasta. Other than that the service was great, food was tasty & a lovely place to go on a cold wet evening

Its nearly worthwhile going to zaks for the chips alone. they are so tasty and fresh i could have them as my whole dinner. I regularly visit zaks at lunchtime as i work nearby and the food is always great as is the service. the food is brought out quickly but doesnt take away from how good it tastes. would highly recommend this place to anyone anytime

I was newly recommended to visit Zaks the other day buy a couple that we are very good friends with. And i must say i will also be passing on my recommendations. The food was sooooooo full of flavour and was at such a good quality for the price. Thumbs up to the chef - i must say! But another thing is sometimes service can let the food quality down- ( But the service in Zaks was also fabulous, friendly and comforting and helpfull . Our waitress a delight. Over all a fabulous dining experience!

Zaks Restaurant is tucked away on 4 Marlboro Street, Cork City. I was introduced to this restaurant by some friends of mine while on an Evening out sum weeks ago. We skipped the starters and Headed straight for the Main course although I have heard their Seafood Chowder a Medley of Fresh Fish & Shellfish in Creamy Dill Sauce is to die for? So on my next visit I will give it a try. Being 4 Lads We All Went for the 10 oz Steak with Sautéed mushrooms and Onions and Homemade Chips With various Condiments, I Went for Creamy Pepper sauce, Beautiful. It's a bit of theatre when your steak comes out sizzling on a bed of mushrooms & onions on a Satay Hot Plate :) It was a very tasty steak, well cooked and everything on the plate hit the spot. I must Say Zaks has a really good menu across the Board. It's one of Favourite Restaurants because of this. Will Be Returning in Future!

I was in Zaks few times before.Thats my choice for town when im shopping and get hungry in town:)I have never really tried the big things frim the menu like steaks or sthing cause im not big fan of large meals. What i usually get is the soup which is one of the best in Cork-youusually have 2 soups to choose:).But i have to say the service is not so great i mean not so friendly. You could wait forever waiting for somebody to ask you if you are ok:(The dont check if you have everything you need on the table.Once i didnt have salt on the table and had to wait for waitress ages. But i go back to Zacks cause its lovely food and not so expensive.

zaks is a nice place - the food is good generally. We go there a bit but our last experience was only ok. The main was good but the service was only ok - no smiles no chat no extra anything - except thats what you want - ill go get it - g'luck! the new decor I personally did not like it- too much going on - but i loved lighting - no atmosphere as the music was awful - but the food was good so we will go back. room for improvement guys : )

Had a beautiful meal here recently. The food presentation and quality are amazing for the price. The early bird menu is great. I had, thai fish cakes, awkward to eat, but lovely and excellent presentation and the tagaletti was amazingly good. Then the best part it only cost €43 for two of us, which includes a complimentary drink.

The first time we were in Zacks we just happenend to stumble across it by chance. We found the food suberb and very tasty. The service is also very good. The Early Bird Menu is great value for money. We have since gone back to the restaurant and we have recommended it to many of our familes and friends. We even find ourselves guiding people to the restaurant if they stop us on the street looking for something to eat. When we come to Cork from Limerick it is now a place where we will always visit. Keep up the good work.

I frequently go to Zaks for breakfast on a Saturday and while the food and atmosphere are great - the waiting staff are awful. Last week, having waited for 30 mins for my order to arrive I called the waitress over to be told they lost my docket. Now its wasn't that busy and I was passed several times by the staff - is it too much to ask that someone could ask if I even wanted another coffee while I was waiting? I was not impressed. I think the chef would do well to have a serious chat with his front of house about basic customer service.

wanted to have lunch in the city today and stumbled across Zaks. We liked the look of the menu and when we walked in we really liked the look of the place. it had been years since id been to Zaks and the new decor is fab. The waiter and waitresses were all over us when we went in, seated us fast and approached us 2 or 3 times to see if we were ready to order. The food was very nice but the service after that was ridiculous. there were people waiting on the floor and it wasnt busy. we asked for ketchup from a waiter and he was never to be seen again. when we finished eating we sat with dirty plates in front of us for a half an hour. we wanted dessert and coffees but no one approached us. another couple across the way asked for the bill and i could hear the lady saying she would have had dessert but they were too slow. waitresses walked by us several times and never once came near us to ask if our meal was ok and did we want to see a dessert menu. it felt like once they served us our dinner they didnt care about us. it was a real shame because during our meal we kept sayingwhat a great find the place was, now we are not sure if we would go back

I have been a customer Zaks since it more or less opened five years ago. and i have watched it improve more and more by the year, the food has always been faboulous. But since Zaks has been recently been done up, i has taken leaps and bounds to being one of the best if not the best- specially for the quality and value for money in this climate. Anyone i know that has been in there over christmas have said same..... Has definatly won us over..

I don't mean to get carried away about a simple Saturday afternoon lunch, but it strikes me that there is a lack of this type of restaurant for a Saturday lunch with a bit of edge. We arrived at Zaks at just afte 1 o'clock, having battled the Christmas Shopping crounds all morning. I think this restaurant is great, a little bit of relaxed atmosphere in the centre of the city. We both commented that the "bustle" of outside was left behind, and what we enjoyed was a casual lunch, in a good atmosphere with good music and food that was freshly prepared and well presented. The staff were great too. We enjoyed lunch with a glass of wine and when we left, we were refreshed and relaxed. As I said, I dont mean to over-react to lunch but this was just what wew were looking for. Full marks for not allowing a queue to form within the restaurant.....once the restaurant was full, people were turned away....thus ensuring comfort for existing diners!

Service was appalling!!waitresses had a room full of people yet continued chatting amongest themselves, was left waiting to order for 20mins, people were leaving but we decided to stay, Food was VERY basic, and our drinking glasses arrived half full with water from the ice having melted. Overpriced for what you get-nothing special!

Yum! Food is lovely but Zaks is let down by the service (good and friendly but v.slow) and the toilets (which baffled me as the rest of the decor is lovely) Very busy at lunch time and has a diverse and well priced menu.

I went to lunch at Zaks for the second time last Friday. It's a delight I have to say. The menu offers wonderful choice and the quality is excellent. I ordered a lamb souvlaki, it was so nice to be asked how i wanted my lamb cooked. On the last occasion I had a vegetarian tart and it was absolutely wonderful too. I can't wait to go back. Excellent value for such quality food. A Cork gem!
