This was my second visit to the restaurant and it was my last. I ordered a salmon dish and when it was presented I waited for what I thought would be the accompanying vegetable and / or fries. When I beckoned the staff member I was informed that basically what was sitting on my plate was the entire meal - and this was going to cost me €18.50! So I was paying this money for a small piece of farmed salmon sitting on a spoonful of something resembling 'Smash' - the rest of the plate was empty. I had to order a small bowl of fries which I could not eat because they tasted horrible. Never again!

We were here for lunch on a Monday and it was packed, always a good sign! The food was lovely, if a little bit more expensive than the norm but the decor and atmosphere is fab, I'll definitely be going back again for dinner some weekend

I have eaten here before but it was about 3 months sincemy last visit. I was very disappointed this time however. We went here for lunch and all of us wanted sandwiches from the menu. I asked to have red onion omitted from my sandwich and was told that it was not possible to have the sandwich without the red onion. I was suprised by this response and ended up ordering something else which I wasnt very happy with. Overall none of us were overly happy with our food, a lot of the sandwiches looked like they were made up hours earlier. For the amount of money that they charge for the sandwiches you should be able to have one freshly made if you want one thing omitted. Overall I feel that the restaurant has gone downhill which is such a pity really.

Smashing venue. Good start. Very poor finish. Full house on a Wednesday. Well done all. Prestine venue. The best/worst thing about awards is that they draw customers like me. Clever & well spent advertising helps. Well done all envolved here. Nice welcome at the bar counter. Range of wines by the glass was good. Offered a super table by the fire when available (we had no reservation). Informed of specials while still standing. I get it's a smart gastro pub but sell/pitch at this market & you need to follow through with the service. Mushroom starter was nice. Goats cheese base was undercooked to the point of dough on top (may have been the goats cheese sitting on the bread but I doubt it as the cheese was 'fridge cold'). Lovely burger, Special chicken was tasty, very nice actually (rosti were perfect). Potato side was tepid but swiftly replaced. Main courses were cleared & that was it. No one came back despite our attempts for attention. All in all a nice place. A mistake on the bill was corrected. Not being offered another glass of wine, dessert or even coffee was a let down but will be happy to visit again. I know - I should have gotten up & looked for service but the fire there is too good.

This is possibly my favourite restaurant. I think this is place looks gorgeous and the food is delicious and always well presented. Last time i was here i had pork on the specials menue and the portion was very generous and was cooked to perfection. The service is very good and staff were friendly and efficient. The atmosphere here is quite classy and I would say nearly romantic with low lightings and sofisticated decor. What I really like about it is that he price is very resonable as well. I would recommend it to anyone.

The Elm Tree Bar & Restaurant is a spacious place with great service and plently of room for kids to run around and play. The portions are fairly good but the carvary can be very crowded on eg sundays. Although i was mostly always happy with the servive i recieved. Its great when there is a match on as you can watch it on the large televisions while eating or having a few jars. Best of all the parking is great so no worrying about getting a space..

Had a table booked for 8.30, arrived and after a few minutes of waiting were placed in the bar area. This was fine until midway through our main course a guitarist started playing about a foot from where we were eating, couldn't hear ourselves talk at this stage. After our main course we were abandoned, no offer of dessert, tea or coffee or nothing. Eventually we had to leave the bar area because of the music, appalling handling of our booking overall, won't be going back in a hurry.

i went with my granmother and a friend of hers for evening dinner,,ive been before ,for lunch and 4 of us for valentines,,which has to be said was a major dissapointment !! we had a booking but didnt get seated at the restaurant which had heart balloons,,we got put in the bar,,and had the guitarists arse in front of us after the meal (not pretty) !!!! and not evan a choccie or rose for the ladies !!!,,, any way last week confirms to me why i returned again as ive never been dissapointed with the service or the food,,since its total overhaul it is a lovely place, very inviting,,can bit a little bit warm in the restaurant at times,, i had on this evening goats chesse on caibatta,it was devine,,another had sticky wings they were gourgous, but we had to ask for a water bowl for fingers,,i had duck for dinner ive had it before and i cant fault it every time its melt in the mouth, another had steak,it was lovely and after mentioning a intolerence to onions she was delt with swiftly and politely,my nan (80) got fish and chips,it was lovely but way too big a portion,i would challange anyone to finish it, overall i like the elm tree,as i said valentines could of been done with a bit more omph!!,but no doubt i will be returning again, the beer garden is huge, with heaters and umbrellas everywhere over large wood tables,,a perfect way to have a lazy summers day, with a few drinks and mates !!!

This gastro pub was recently renovated and the interior is very spacious, cosy but modern and very welcoming. It was perfect for a quick carvery lunch and the food was what you would expect - a tasty gutsy dinner. For a tenner a plate you can't go wrong. There are plenty of families that dine here - so be prepared for lots of noise but overall its a good find.

went to the elm tree with my family and 17month old niece on a busy friday evening a few weeks ago. We are still raving about the place. The food was fantastic. We nearly died when we saw the size of the main courses and had wished we hadnt bothered with starters!! The starters were fab too. Brilliant value and brilliant food. Def going back

We went here for my dads birthday on a monday evening and we were blown away with the food!! We(4 adults) arrived at 5 with a 9 month old baby and asked for a quiet corner and we were shown to a little cubby hole so had loads of room to ourselves. There was no early bird so we ordered starters and main courses. Starters were 2 x garlic mushrooms(bit greasy but gorgeous), goats cheese, BBQ wings. Main course i had burger(never tasted anything like it, fantastic!!) , 3 x duck which i was told was great. There was loads of full tables when we were leaving so nice atmosphere there. The only bad thing about it was too much food!!!!!!!!!!!! We were stuffed leaving. Would definately go back again...

Was terribly disappointed with lunch here. Alarm bells rang when I saw the sign for carvery. We asked if there was any other option and were told that the gourmet sandwich menu was available at the table. Needing a hot meal on a cold day, we opted reluctantly for carvery. On the day, there were no prices displayed on the menu board. At least if there were, they were not clearly marked. Options were the usual, roast joint of lamb, cornish pastie, fish cakes and veggie lasagne for the non carnivores.Accompaniments were an array of bog standard overcooked veggies and a choice of roast potatoes or chips, with sauces for each dish. I opted for fish cakes while my companion opted for pastie. Our logic was that at €12.50 each they would be very good fishcakes and pasties. We could not have been more wrong. The fishcakes were dried out from sitting under a lamp and instead of having a seperate dipping dish for the fiery syrup they called sweet chilli sauce, they were drowned in the hideous, sugary concoction from which there was no chilli flavour, just sickly sweetness and overpowering heat. The pastie was soggy and bland as were the accompanying veggies. Dessert beckoned and since they were described as fabulous, tempting desserts we gave in. At €6 a pop, they had better be good. Tea was also ordered and arrived 15mins before dessert with a filthy teacup. Shame and service in fact was most disorganised. Dirty crockery is inexcusable at any level of commercial catering. Desserts were not worth waiting for nor worth the money. Banoffee pie is not worth €6 and the parfait was choc full of large ice crystals. The chocolate was also very grainy. I couldn't find much good to say. The decor was nice but thats about it.

Enjoyed an excellent meal of duck from the menu and goose from the specials and wow both were just fantastic, great athmospere and warm cosy feel there, great pleasent staff and value for money. Judging by how busy the place is they are doing something right - well done to all involved.

We were in The Elm Tree tonight and were delighted with the new menu. We had the platter to share to begin and I had the chicken korma for main course and my better half had the 10oz steak which he said was great. We didn't have room for dessert but we did get to see the unveiling of the new look bar which looks set to be open this weekend! Cant wait to come back!!

my visit on wednesday to the elm tree was a suprise delight. i havent heard much about it perhaps because of its location but i will be raving about it in future. we each had two courses and i couldnt complain about anything if i tried. The service was some of the best i have ever recieved. one girl in particular stood out. she was so helpful and nice that it made tipping a pleasure. i will certainly be bringing my inlaws there soon to impress them

I booked this bar/restaurant for a group of 12 people for team dinner. When we arrived it was very warm and welcoming, lovely buzz around the restaurant and was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night, which is a great sign. I had specific requests as to a certain area of the restaurant and seating arrangements, all were done to my exact requests. As there was a large group we ordered a lot of different starters, main courses and desserts. They also had a number of specials on the board that evening. The food was excellent, I had the cod wrapped in parma ham, absolutely delicious. Everyone in the group were extremely pleased with their meal and the selection on the menu was enought to satisfy all tastes. We had a senior member of our Management team with us who was very impressed and we will most definitely be using it again for business and pleasure.

Ate here recently with my family and the in-laws. Had a lovely meal, the food was cooked perfectly and the service was second to none, each member of staff was nicer than the last. There were lots of children here and they were accommodated really well! they had their own menus and were given colours to help keep them occupied whilst waiting for dinner. Have to say that even with drinks the cost of our meal was amazing (Cheap). Will definitely be back soon!!

i have eaten here for years, even before the makeover and i love the place, i usually get the sunday carvery lunch or the odd time a gourmet sandwich. The carvery is exceptional value and never disappoints, i thought the sandwiches were overpriced. i went for a meal once here and was not impressed compared to their usual food. i got the fish with chunky chips and a pea puree, the fish was very oily and i actually had oil floating on my plate, my partner got the beef fillet and portion was tiny, you get way more on a carvery for half the price. i will still be going back for my sunday lunch though, very well organised and worth waiting for a seat

After reading the glowing reviews posted since my last visit I went back to check things out given the unfortunate experience I had previously. The restaurant makeover is very good and the waiting staff have certainly improved. Unfortunately the food was a problem as after an hour's wait we were served undercooked chicken which was inedible. It looks as as if the kitchen struggled to keep up with the number of diners and quality suffered as a consequence. The dishes were still left on our bill when it was presented but after pointing this out to one of the managers they were removed. Maybe Sunday is not the day to visit!!! If the correct balance is struck between numbers and quality/service then perhaps things might go a little smoother.

Hi Everyone, I wanted to add my comments on the Elm Tree as I was very shocked at some of the comments below. I have been going to the Elm Tree for years now and it is absolutely perfect in every way. The decor, atmosphere, staff and most importantly the food is perfect. I have brought friends, family and business associates to the Elm Tree and each time is has been a complete success. To prove a point, I have very close friends that visit from Paris and also live in Douglas and the Elm Tree is always the first choice of venue for a dinner. I'm not sure why the people below have put such bad reviews however when I am reading their comments I get the feeling they really weren't at the Elm Tree. There is not one thing I would want changed there, for me it is the perfect venue for a social night out, a quiet romantic dinner or a lively social gathering of Friends. It doesn't get better than this! Go there and you will not be disappointed. - Orla

I eat in this bar regularly and could not find any fault in it, The athmostphere is great for rugby matches & is generally booked out for barbecues during the summer and the food is always far beyond what would be considered "pub grub". The service is exceptional for me personally and the staff can never do enough despite the number of visits i might make. Some of the other reviews appear to come from persons who are most likely used to hotels. This is a bar which serves great carvery and a very broad menu to suit people who want good food without delay. I would have no hesitation in recommending this bar as a lunch venue or to bring friends in evening to eat out

I was in the Elm Tree last weekend and was very disappointed with the food. The service was also not as good as I had remembered. The burgers took over 40 minutes to prepare and so as we were all hungry we also ordered starters. The goat's cheese salad was in fact rubbery goats cheese served on burnt toast with three leaves of lettuce -very disappointing. On the plus side -we were still very hungry by the time the burgers arrived!!! Hunger's a great sauce.

I have to disagree with the previous comments, this place is a breath of fresh air. I can only guess they're based soley on a carvery LUNCH on the Sundays (which if you do that, all resturants will be below average, a carvery is a carvery..). The evening menus (2 menus, one for the sunday evening and others for the rest of the week) are gorgeous with about 6-8 'specials' on the board that varey each night. All the sauces are gluten free so my fiancee loves the place, the vegetarian options aren't spectacular, but depending on the specials, you could be lucky, they're generally at least one extra option. The staff are friendly and very accomodating (only had one occurance when the service was slow, 1 out of about 10 isn't too bad at all) The food is well prepared and very tastey, I've yet to come away unhappy and its one place I can be sure I'll not be embarassed in when I take friends out. It is a pub, but the food is not 'pub grub'

I wouldn't rush back to this restaurant. Sunday carvery is good as carverys go, but rest of the week, I find it overpriced for mediocre food. Don't ask to change anything on the menu because they are very unwilling to oblige.

You have to take this for what it is. Pub grub and for that it is pretty good. There's a good choice on the menu but it is a bit pricey for what it is. Avoid Sunday lunch unless you prepare yourself for scrambling for the nearest available table and tripping over dozens of screaming children.
