Ended up here by chance for Sunday lunch and what a nice experience it was..... Excellent service, delicious food, great atmosphere, very child friendly, and great value (we got the offer of starter/main/dessert and tea/coffee for €20). Would love to go back!

After much dithering, Mum and I dined here last night and my! were we glad!! I had a deliciously creamy veg and chicken soup to start whilst Mum had the duck confoit which she conceded as salty, though the freshness of the rocket salad nicely balanced out the flavours. For mains I had the tangine, which I had had a craving for all day. My only complaint (if even) was that there were not enough roasted veggies in it, aubergine and big juicy tomatoes would not go amiss in this dish that could do with a little more spice (but I am particularly fond of spice so don't let that put you off). Mum had prawn and salmon spagetti which actually had seafood in it unlike so many other places that fob you off with one or two. She really enjoyed it and whatever tomatoey sauce it was enveloped in was yummy. We took our time for dessert seeing as we were fit to explode, but were not rushed by any means by the staff who were were and attentive all throughout the night. We eventually caved and had a banoffi pie of sorts (dark chocie and bananas on a hazelnut biscuit base). Twas a unique and I suppose modern take on an old classic and went down a treat too. All in all a very enjoyable evening, good company, good food, good wine (kind of) and good service/. Next time I'm in Cork I'll definitely being paying a visit!

We ate lunch here and it was excellent. I ordered the lunch special; half sandwich, soup of the day, coffee and chocolate pot for €10. Great value because the sandwich was huge and so was the bowl of soup. Everything was delicious. The service was great and the food was ready within a reasonable time. The only small complaint is that it was pretty loud but it was jammed so it's understandable. Their coffee is great and their menu is varied. Simply put – the best place for lunch in Cork City.

Market Lane is a lovely place, very nice relaxed atmosphere and I like the decor. The tables are a little cramped at times thought because it is a popular place. The do a great value lunch deal of soup of the day, there is a choice of 2, and have a sandwich, coffee and a min chocolate pot which is totally delicious. It was a chicken curry soup the last day I was there and it was unusual but great! Great value early bird menu too, I can recomment the chargrilled chicken. Lovely staff, good value, and tasty food.

We visited Market Lane for our anniversary. The food was lovely, we had duck and prawns for starters and it was fantastic. Loved the main courses also, monkfish and beef wellington. The restaurant was packed, the staff were all very nice and attentive. The bar cocktails were lovely. Will be back!

First impressions of this restaurant were not good. When we got there the lady pointed a table out to us in the far corner and told us to seat ourselves. She was pretty rude actually. But the waitress we had was great and totally made up for it. There were a few items on the menu that weren't available which was a bit annoying (set menu) but waitress recommended lots of different things instead which was great. The food was delicious and seems good value for money as well. A lot of the ingredients were locally sourced too. Only thing that annoyed me (other than the entrance) was that many of the meals were the same for lunch as they were for dinner but there were some real price differences between the same meals at different times.

I just don't get the gushy reviews about this place. Maybe fine for a tenner lunch and perhaps that's where our expectations should have been pegged. Lovely room, nice buzz, friendly staff downstairs and at the bar where we settled in for a short wait and a few glasses of wine..... all went downhill on being moved upstairs though! Yes, I could try rationalize that the place was having a bad night and swamped with big parties but frankly the food was average to poor. Starters of a crab/smoked salmon cake and prawns were overpowered by the oil they'd been cooked in and utterly devoid of any seafood taste - this is Cork after all, the seafood should be good, right? Mains comprised an uber-trendy ham hock (slow cooked in 20 minutes!) and free range sausages - potentially great choices but both disappointing. The ham hock was stringy and not meltingly My companion can't even recall waht it came with so unmemorable were the accompaniments) while the sausages had been overdone and came on a heap of bland calcannon and (get this!) an alleged vegetable terrine which consisted of more mushed vegetables wrapped in rather tough unappetising leaves, not to mention an insipid mustard sauce not unlike something from a packet. Service upstairs was perhaps a bit too nervously attentive and didn't add to the experience. On the whole a poor meal and not cheap either - we won't be back.

Came here and availed of their ten euro lunch deal. I had the chicken and tomato soup with a cheese and chutney sandwich. Both were delicious as was the side salad that came with it. For dessert they offered tea and a little chocolate pot which was to die for. The offer includes a 'half sandwich' which at first may sound small but I was completely full by the time I finished. Staff were really friendly and very professional. Will be back

MARKET LANE Market Lane is always a good bet when you’re in town and wondering where to go for lunch. I was in the area on Friday and called in and enjoyed it. Quite a range of prices on the menu. For instance, the mains go from €10.95 to €16.95. I went for the Spaghetti with pan fried tiger prawns, marinated salmon, roast vine tomatoes, cream and parmesan (€16.95). A beautiful well balanced and colourful bowlful and I was very happy with it. The other main dish ordered was Pan Fried Hake fillet with broccoli, bok choi, peppers, sautéed potatoes and a walnut and lime pesto (€16.95). Quite a plateful and, aside from the fact that the broccoli piece was pretty much on the hard side (house style here), a really gorgeous and very satisfying mid-day meal for the hungry person across from me! Desserts all cost €6.25. I should perhaps have selected the mini-chocolate cup at two euro but greedily picked the Chocolate and Bailey’s Tart with hazelnut biscuit base with cream, of course. The whole thing, including the crispy base, was really gorgeous. The other dessert, Orange and Vanilla bread and butter pudding, was huge, even looked big as it was carried across the floor. Probably too much for just one person but it was very very tasty. Two coffees (no wine!) brought the total to about €51.00. Market Lane, by the way, have recently taken over the Cafe/Restaurant/Bar at Blackrock Castle. They do lunch seven days a week and evening meals on Friday and Saturday. That venue is now on my list!

This is one of the best restaurants in Cork. It has it all - great food, service and a lovely atmosphere and prices which are hard to beat. I was here on a Wedneday night and it was full with a few large groups. They also do a really nice kids menu.

Nice place and the waiter we got was just second to none this guy was great and we commented to the Manager how good he was thats how impressed we were with the service he provided. They do a nice steak and they have nice wine but it is a little pricey. I have been there for their €10 lunch which is have a big lovely sandwich and a freshly homemade bowl of soup a drink and a very small chocolate compot but over all for that price its quite nice. Its a nice place to go

We´ve been here before and it has always been great, however this time around it was a bit disappointing. I had the sesame prawns with almonds and first of all, I could not find any of the almonds. Also the noodles were cold while the prawns were hot so the combination did not work out very well. There was quite a difference in the size of the lemon sole salad and the chicken salad, even though they were both the medium size but they were nice. I would still recommend this restaurant but this visit was not as good as the previous ones.

I am having a glut of eating out at the moment but am enjoying it. Went here for a girly lunch. I chose the Steak Sandwich with salad and chips. This was very nice indeed, the steak was lovely and tender except it was hard to cut through the bread even with a steak knife. The chips were delicious and salad was nice too.

This is the second time that I have been here. I was so impressed the first time, that I had to go back to make sure that it was for real. The fact that we had to wait for a table on a Tuesday night in January was a good sign of it's very positive reputation. We were not waiting long however (which was good, the smell was so tempting, I may have sat at someone else's table and started eating from their plates!). The menu is not that extensive but there is a great choice from what is there. On this occasion, I tried the spaghetti with prawns and marinated salmon - absolutely delicious although some of the prawns seemed to be a little overcooked. My friend tried the game pie which was a complete triumph. The meat was very succulent and the mash on top was creamy and tasty. The service is impeccable, I saw our waitress with a map directing some of our fellow diners to the best pubs for after dinner entertainment. I always appreciate staff who will go above and beyond to make sure that a visitors experience continues even after they've left the restaurant. Could not recommend this place more highly.

Busy, friendly restaurant, excellent value. Service was wonderful, looked after by our waitress and waiter. No complaints here! We had the confit of duck starter and the prawns both get a 10/10. Duck was served on a bed of rocket was beautiful moist and tickled my taste buds. 6 large prawns were served on a bed of noodles which to my niece were WOW!! I had the quiche special, a little rich for my taste but presentation made up for this. Roast chicken with roasted veg and mash were delightful for E and she was delighted with her choice. I passed on dessert and I was very nicely mellow but herself had a strawberry, meringue glory which in her words was THE BEST EVER!! definitely worth a visit and a return highly recommended. Total for two under €55 - supberb!!!

Good atmosphere, really like the location and the food is tasty. The only criticism is that the menu is a bit limited and hasn't changed in a while. Service can be slow if you are in a large group as I experienced on a previous visit but I really hope they branch out a bit and add a few extras to the menu, especially at lunch!

This was my second time here, the first was with a group of 4 for dinner and cocktails, both were delicious! I came here for a second time for lunch and it didn't disappoint, great service, lovely atmosphere and the food was great! For €10 we had a bowl of french onion soup (which was gorgeous) half a cheese ploughmans (which was enormous) a little chocolate dessert and a choice of tea or coffee. I was very impressed with this and our waiter was very friendly. I would definitely go back!

I had the tiger prawns and the baked cod.....divine! We were all very happy with our choices and plates returned empty!! Everything so fresh, and excellent value - 4 starter/4mains & 2 Bottles of vino for under 160 - thats brill!!! highly recommend this restaurant.

Went here for dinner with a friend on a friday night. Quite a busy place, had to wait a while at the bar to be seated. They have a cocktail menu, so decided to sip some long island iced tea while waiting. Nice interior and you get a view of the kitchen. The tables though are placed too close together. Shared a large portion warm ginger and soy chicken salad for starter, tasted great, definitely recommend it. For main course decided to have warm seafood salad. Main course was a bit slow to arrive, and the monk fish was missing from my seafood dish. Alerted the waiter and a separate portion on monk fish came soon enough to be added to my main course. Tasted delicious. Shared a warm chocolate brownie for dessert, tasted so good. Very satisfied apart from sitting to close to other customers and the small blip with the main course.

7 of us went here for a work meal last week. Atmosphere was fab, staff couldn't have been friendlier or more efficient. My meal was: Starters: n/a Main: - Rib eye steak with garlic mayo sauce and potato & bacon gratin. This was divine! Perfect portion size for me, and everything complimented each other Dessert: -Chocolate Fudge Brownie with ice-crea For this my eyes were bigger than my stomach. As I had finished my entire mains as it was so nice, I thought that the brownie would be small like in most places. It was huge. Delicious but huge so couldn't finish it. A chocolate-lovers must though. Will return here soon for sure.

Busy & vibrant restauant with great athmosphere. Service is friendly and efficient. The food is very good and well priced. Wine by the bottle seemed a bit expensive in comparison to the food pricing. No complaints about this place. Probably not a good place for a quite or romantic night out, but if you are looking for vibrancy and athmosphere then this is the place to go to. No bookings other than for six or more people. Arrive before 8pm and you should be seated quickly if not immediately. Between 8pm and 9pm you may have to wait to be seated. There is a nice tradional style bar to wait at.

I decided to have a "treat myself day" last Saturday & that included lunch at Market Lane..I arrived at the peak of lunch (1 o clock) and the restaurant was extremely busy. I was seated straight away which was great & made to feel very welcome! After looking through the menu I decided to have their lunch special which consisted of Soup with 1/2 sandwich, mini choc. pot & coffee for €10. The service was fast and efficient even though the the restaurant was full. The soup - Tomato & basil - was deliciously tasty and hot, The sandwich which I can only describe as a gourmet sandwich - Smoked ham, chicken, herb mayo and baby leaves in seeded wholemeal was scrumptious & the mini choc. is pure indulgence. I enjoyed watching the professional kitchen staff working effortlessly together as a team getting the dishes ready for the waiting staff. All the staff work brilliantly together to make the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. I left happy and will definitely return to sample more of their menu..Well done to all at market lane!

Having working all day long, I would like to relax in a calm quiet environment & chat with my friends. Unfortunately, I think Market Lane would be anything but quiet. Waitress are quite busy bustling around & the environment is quite loud with customers chatting around. But thumbs up to the food, the portion are big & filling. The dessert are addictive, especially the strawberry meringue. And the service are brilliant with efficient staff. In general, I would recommend this place for the food, but I do not think it is a relaxing environment.

The food is great here. very fresh! Recently went and had a beef sald to start which was very tasty. I then had the ginger and soy chicken salad for main which was lovely. I must mention the chocolate pot-its sinfully good and for such a small dessert,it has incredible flavour.

It was my 1st visit to The Market Lane last Friday. We went with a group of 5 people, one of which joined us after the rest of us had already ordered. The kitchen managed to time everything so that we all got our main dishes together which I found great as sometimes ordering at different times messes things up for the rest of the evening. Otherwise service was good and unobtrusive. The food itself was very good. Two in our party had steak, one had haddock, one had chicken and one had a salad. Everyone was very happy with their choice. It's definitely a place I would visit again.

My experience of the Market Lane has always been good. The service is usually very good. My most recent visit involved a late lunch (3pm) with four family members and we all enjoyed the food. The restaurant was quiet at this stage of the day, as would be expected. We shared a selection of breads that came with three dips. The bread was lovely and fresh and the dips were lovely. The steak sandwich was very tasty and the meat was quite tender. The linguini with pan-fried king prawns had great flavour and was very filling. I had the baked cod with buttered leeks and really enjoyed it. The verdict by all was great food, great value and great service!

Went with a group of 8 and the service was excellent Mind you, I wouldnt order the salads again (I had one as a starter and a friend had another as a main) as the meats were very dry and chewy, the dishes really lacked dressing and there was way too much salad leaves. As the service was excellent and the others enjoyed their meals I would definitely like to go back and give it another go next time Im in Cork.

We were disappointed that we couldn't book in advance and when we arrived at 7pm were told we would have to wait for 40 minutes for a table. in actual fact we were seated within 10 minutes. The atmosphere was really good, staff were efficient but not overly friendly and the food was fantastic, particularly the cod with chirizo. Dont bother with a side order, the portions are really generous. Would definately go back.

We ate a fantastic meal here and can't fault any of the dishes we had. The noise level can get a bit high, which makes it hard to hear if you have a large group at your table, but the atmosphere is really buzzing. The waiter seemed over-anxious to clear the plates when I was barely finished chewing my last mouthful, but apart from that excellent service.

I ate here recently with a group of about 8 people & have to say it was much improved! Last time there were 20 of us & the service was poor; this time they could not have been better. As always, the other elements were perfect - great food, really fresh, excellent prices. Planning to be there next Saturday with a group of friends :-)

I LOVE this place, best french onion soup ever. I wanted to point out, as it does not seem to be on the website, that Marketlane is doing an early bird 3 course meal for €20 with a great main course choice and the chocolate pot dessert is delicious!

A great option for well-cooked, homely comfort food. Our party of three dropped in here on Saturday, there's a great buzz about the place, and the food is reliably good. The only complaint we had, was the speed at which the waiting staff were trying to move us on. It was a bit rude to be clearing plates, when one of our party was still eating. Apart from that, though, always a nice option.

Always a great option, was in last week and even though we were in time for the early bird, decided to order from the a la carte. I had the pate for starters and was gorgeous, and had a medium fillet for mains, also really good. Cooked perfectly. My dining partner had the sea bass and said it was amazing. Our waitress was really friendly and efficient, top marks all aorund really

Dinner with a friend, paying back green-fees of a week previous. Duck liver pate with port and cranberry's was very tasty indeed, even the quality of bread used for the toast quantifies the €9 pricetag. The Sea-bass was nicely cooked, well seasoned with a lovely crispy skin-the sweet potato mash the perfect compliment for the dish. The coffee crème brulee was edible but nothing special and after the starter and the main was a letdown to be honest. The house white went well with the fish, the staff didn't roll there eyes when I asked for Bombay in my gin and tonic the price reasonable enough considering the quality of the ingredients and preparation of same, will return.

Arrived here with a large group for lunch and we were instantly accommodated and made feel very welcome. The menu is divine; imagination coupled with top quality produce. Indeed, it took us all ages to choose our dishes as there was so much to tempt us. I settled for the salad of Lemon Sole Goujons which was divine; perfectly cooked. Others went for sandwiches which were very tasty with well-combined fillings and very generous in size. Everything here is top quality even down to the selection of breads (starter) which were fresh and wide-ranging. The desserts were mouth-watering and the range of wines was impressive. I'd also recommend the fresh apple juice as a non-alcoholic alternative. The waiting staff were efficient and more than helpful as they indulged our questions with good humour. Despite being a group of 10 we were not made to feel hurried and lingered long into the afternoon. This place is faultless. It was buzzing on this sunny Sunday afternoon and for great food and value I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We had a wonderful night here over the bank holiday. We turned up without a booking but only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table and therefore got to enjoy a nice aperatif at the bar and outdoor tables. The staff were so helpful, when taking our order, were delighted to recommend dishes to us and knew what the food tasted like and the ingredients - rare enough to find these days. The waiter was so helpful he brought us a sample bowl of the soup of the day to prove how nice it was! (Celeriac and it was del-ish!!) Starters and mains for both of us were lovely, a little complaint in that the french onion soup was a little on the mean side of a portion but the main course more than made up for this! Pan fried sea-bass was melt in the mouth and the steak didnt draw any complaints either. Great staff, good value, lovely food and great house wine! Definitely would go back - and great for all types of people, from singles to groups of friends and everything in between!

I had a really, really lovely evening at Market Lane. I am not usually all that easily pleased but I genuinely couldn't fault it. The food was delicious - my steak cooked perfectly! - and the service swift and friendly, despite the fact that we were a fairly demanding group of 10 and it was a busy Friday evening. I can't wait to come back to Cork and ML will definitely be on my "to do" list.

The service was terrible, forgetting to take my order for wine and then forgetting my side dish. Overpriced us by €70 by adding desserts to the bill that nobody had ordered! The food was okay, the onion soup was delicious. And while the ham hock was very tasty the potatoes were dry as if they were reheated, likewise with the vegetables, and the cheese sauce had absolutly no taste, it was only good for moistening the dry potatoes! The dessert however was lovely, I had the brownie. So all in all a bit hit and miss!

Went here with my boyfriend wanted to have a romantic night out! Big disappointment!!! The starter was alright, had the french onion soup which was quite nice and olives were a bit too salty... Then I had the butternut curry which was alright but nothing amazing and my boyfriend had the slow cooked ham which he didn't like a bit! The cauliflower cheese didn't have any cheese on it and the rest of the veg was just really dry and you could tell that the potatoes were reheated. Didn't bother with a dessert and even complained a little which got us a free drink... All in all I wouldn't recommend it. Won't go back!

Market Lane had been recommended to me by several people when I asked for restaurant tips on a trip to Cork. Turns out that unless we ordered poorly, they were very wrong. The good first, there's a great busy atmosphere to the restaurant. Lots of people, everyone enjoying themselves and copious amounts of wine. Second the service was friendly, despite my knocking a glass to the ground. We were charged for a side-order that never arrived but this was quickly erased from the bill. The food is the major stumbling block though and for a restaurant that's a heck of a block to stumble on. Starters of duck terrine and prawns were bland and blah but the mains were the main problem. My game pie seemed to have been reheated in a microwave. The mashed potato topping was inedibly hot and remained so for a good 20mins and the filling of venison and boar was dry and tasteless. My partners seabass was full of bones, almost comically so. Needless to say, we skipped dessert, a rare occurrence. Overall we found dining in Market Lane to be a very poor experience and wouldn't recommend it.

Had a meal here recently, the starter was very promising, very tasty however there wasn't a great choice of courses on offer for the main menu and after asking for a vegetable stir-fry I was told that it was impossible for the chefs to cook it..so I ended up ordering another dish. I took two mouthfuls and found it possibly the most unappetising meal I've ever come across and that's saying a lot! The waitress then brought me a replacement meal which I ate just to be polite as if was even more tasteless and in reality I just wanted to get up and leave at that point however I was there with a group of friends and had to stay. Dessert was no better and I was thankful to learn I wan't the only one who didn't enjoy the meal, most of us in the group didn't, will not be going back there again!

I ate here with two friends on a Saturday lunchtime recently, on a recommendation from a colleague. I had baked cod, my friends had ravioli and quiche. We all found our meals delicious, perfectly cooked and fresh. The menu was varied and good value. The service was excellent - our waiter was friendly and helpful. I found the atmosphere nice & the restaurant tastefully decorated. I will definitely be returning for dinner soon.

I ate here on a Saturday night recently with a friend. We arrived around 8pm and were lucky enough to get a table almost immediately. We spend the rest of the evening there until closing time and I loved the whole experience, the food, the wine and the service. Really nice and relaxed place to eat. My only complaint was the area near the bar which was a little cramped but then I really didn't spend to much time there so it was ok.

Really enjoyed a Saturday night here. Great atmosphere, excellent staff who were very very efficient and friendly, especially the hostess who greeted and seated us with great efficiency. The food was beautiful, and the menu had such a great choice, it would suit for a big meal or small snack. Thumbs up all round! Would recommend Bellini's!!

My fiancé and I stumbled upon this fantastic little restaurant while doing some Saturday afternoon shopping. Although the restaurant was bustling with activity, we had only a short wait at the bar before being escorted to a table whereupon my fiancé opted for a steak sandwich and I had the deep fried sesame goats cheese salad. As both lunch dishes were devoured, needless to say we returned soon after, but this time for dinner. My fiancé opted for the sausage and mash while I had the linguini and prawns. Both meals were faultless and accompanied by a bottle of New Zealand Old Coach Road - one of many great wines on an extensive wine list. Dinner was finished to perfection with a banoffee pie shared between us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends looking for a satisfying mid-shopping lunch, or a trendy, hip little Cork bistro for dinner. One other praise for Market Lane - check out the extensive and beautifully decorated bathrooms!

My girlfriend and I stopped into Market Lane for dinner on a Friday evening and we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. We had both heard good things about the restaurant and we weren't left down. The food is tasty and is definitely good value for money. We were especially impressed by the desserts. The service was very good also.

I have eaten in this restaurant twice. Once when it first opened & the meal was really nice. The next time I went I was very very disappointed! There was 7 of us at the table & none of us enjoyed our meal! I ordered a chicken Salad & but what I got was a salad with one piece of chicken. I did point this out to the waiter that the salad was not good enough but got told that this is the size of the meals now!!! Well they can keep it!

What!? I ate here for lunch twice. I can't speak for the dinner - although the menu is much the same as the lunch menu. This is a first class place. I'm astonished that other reviews on this page say otherwise. The menu has plenty on it for those whose taste extends beyond lump-of-meat cookery - for veg-lovers and fish-lovers there are some well-executed classics with a twist, such as the prawn linguine and the truly sublime fish stew with samphire. The ravioli are constructed from good silky pasta with a good weight of mushroom in the ricotta filling. The quiche was finely balanced (but might not have needed to be reheated to quite that degree - a small complaint). The dining room is gorgeous; the portions so large as to keep us from sampling the promising dessert menu. And the staff were charming. Go there! Where else in the city centre will you find laid back fine dining? Where else on Earth would you find such funky wallpaper?

I've had a few good meals here or so I thought but it was always with a group of friends so we were more busy talking then eating, but since I've gone here with just 1 friend I've noticed the food, it seems reasonably priced but the quality isn't there but then u pay for what u get, brought my kids here once but the portions were so small I had to take them some where else on the way home, went there yesterday for lunch sat outside as the sun was here for a day but there was no service and the dust from the building site next door didn't help, why this place is busy I DO NOT KNOW ?

Went to Market Lane with a gang from work and was delighted that they chose here. No problem getting a table and the waiting staff were very courteous and friendly. The food had that homemade feel and tasted like it was made form scratch. The Spinach Ravioli got the best response. No complaints from anybody at the table and we will certainly be back.

My meal here was only ok - nothing special and nothing really to make me want to return. The decor is lovely just don't look too closely as its very poorly finished. The menu is very old school-hotel style and although there are plenty of dishes very few I wanted to eat. Went for the pate of chicken liver and wild mushrooms....how can you go wrong really... oops forgot the mushrooms I’d say. The sirloin was nice but here they could have left off the mushrooms as they were like ones you'd get in a greasy fry with no taste. Chips were nice. The banoffee was not what I’d expected - I thought it would be a cake but it was in a dish and it was nothing special either. It was very busy so I suppose there are a lot of Corkonians out there who don't know any better and just want to eat rather than a culinary dining experience.

For a while I thought I was in cafe bar deli. Starters were dry & taste less. Mains were just ok when we did get them. Desserts were nice but over priced. And this is not my first time here. I think I’ll give it a miss from now on.
