While I generally enjoyed my experience in Liberty Grill and would probably recommend it I found my food to be a little bland and the service to be a little awkward. The menu read very well and all the food is fresh however it lacked any real discerning tastes as if the chef was scared to really use the flavours. I found it quite expensive for the basic meal I received also. I would go and try again though.

The Liberty Grill is a place I come back to a few times a year as my (relatively grown up) children like the burgers there. I'll often choose a burger myself ( a sign of their quality as, snob that I am, I wouldn't normally be seen dead eating such a prosaic dish) Service was friendly and speedy - it was early ( 6.30 pm) but the place was already busy. They needed the table at 8.30 but that was fine by us. The ingredients were fresh, food was well prepared and presented and the coffee was excellent ( always important) The only downside was the loud banter from a party group near us who were obviously getting ready for a night on the town = but that's hardly the restaurant's fault. All in all, a place I'll be revisiting before long.

You have to go to this place for breakfast! Wow! The menu for breakfast is extensive and excellent. The food is fantastic. I had poached eggs with sourdough toast. I shared a cheese toastie. It was excellent. The area its located in feels a little run down, with many businesses in the area closed. But this cafe had a booming business. There was a queue to get in. I haven't seen this happen in Ireland before for a breakfast place. The service was not great. There seemed to be a lot of servers but not much work being done. The layout of the restaurant isnt great. There is a big table in the centre being used up with "servers things" like cutlery, napkins, jams, newspapers etc. A waste of space that could be used to sit some of the waiting customers.

Stopped in recently for a late breakfast both myself and my wife, opted for the eggs benedict with a side of Rosscarbery Black pudding , could not say a word against it, Hollandasie sauce was excellent , the chef must have trained on poaching eggs all his life and the Pudding was beautiful, a fine peppery taste, which is why I would rate it way above it more famous west Cork neighbour. Service was fast and pleasant, and got into a good giggle with the waitress but no more about that topic.... Will be going back again ....

We wanted to dine there at 7/7:30 but because there were 7 of us they asked us to come in for 6:30, as they said we would not be finished until 9pm. WRONG we were finished and gone by 8.15pm -Maddening. Next time I will be insisting that we get the time WE want. Atmosphere in this very nicely decorated restaurant is excellent, and looking out the windows towards an illuminated rain spattered Washington street, you would almost swear you were sitting in a restaurant on a NYC street. Service couldn't be faulted, though there is a tinge of the hard sell when you arrive (no doubt prompted by the difficult economic times we are in) with "Ok I'll start with your drinks orders". We didn't ! I had a caesar salad to start, it was fresh & tasty, if just a little on the small side, but I couldn't fault it other than that. I then had the Falafel in pitta bread. Three balls of (deep fried ??) Falafel with Pitta and salad accompanied with 2 small ramekins of dips. The falafel was pretty much tasteless and I wouldn't recommend it. My dining partners had meet burgers and they looked excellent. One had fish and chips which was quite ordinary and the fish quite tasteless. 7 starters, 7 mains, 2 desserts, 2 beers, 3 soft drinks, 1 bottle house white wine at €17.50 all came to €185 excl tip. (which we gave). We thought it was good value. I would go back, but next time will be going straight for the meat dishes on the menu.

My husband and I had breakfast here on a recent Saturday morning. There is a very extensive and impressive breakfast menu, and we had high hopes for our time. Overall it was a good experience. The staff were lovely - very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was good - busy, but relaxed. The only thing we felt a bit let down by was the food. My husband had the vegetarian breakfast and I had the porridge and we both felt they could have been tastier. I also had French toast which was nice, and their herbal teas were high quality and very good. Overall, I would probably go back due to the good service and wide range of choices on the menu!

I'm already a big fan of this place, but usually for breakfast or lunch. I sometimes forget that they are also a good place for dinner as well. We booked for 7pm on a tueday and arrived to find our table was the only one empty. To be that busy that early on a Tuesday night is definitely a good sign. We ordered a bottle of wine which turned out to be out of stock, but another was recommended, and a very good recommendation it was! Our waitress was friendly, polite, and had excellent knowledge of the menu. Of the starters, the crab cakes with hollandaise was exceptional! For a main course I had the Fillet steak, with portabello mushrooms, sauted onions and fries. The steak was perfectly cooked, and practically melted in the mouth! I also tried a mouthful of Tennessee Flambe (marinated in Jack Daniels!!) which was sublime. I can't recomend the Liberty Grill enough, and I can't to go back again!

Had booked a table for 8pm, and were promptly seated, thankfully had booked because between 8 and sound 9.30, almost 8 people had been told there may be a table but there would be a long wait. THis is a great indicator. Did'nt bother with a starter but husband had crab toasts, a big portion and was equally tasty. He ordered the lebanese lamb burger, and for a moment i think he thought, this won't fill me, how wrong he was, he had to leav some behind as he was stuffed. The special was John dory, panfried with crushed new potatoes, tapanade and green pesto with wilted greens, it was a great portion and i was happy not to have had a starter, th efish was great a little overcooked but it was so tasty, a half carafe of the house wine; a liilte sharp, was very good value, a few beers for hubby, and altogethter the meal came to €64. THe staff, as ever are so kind, and really energetic.

One of the best places I know in Cork City for an excellent lunch or dinner. My favorite dish is the falafel burger but there are so many choices on the menu. I can only recommend that you either have a reservation for a table if you want to go there for lunch or go go slightly off peak as this place is a favorite with business people and is always packed from 1-2pm.

been here twice now. the second time we brought a couple of friends. the staff are so pleasant and nothing is a bother for them making for a great atmosphere. My girlfriend loves the tempeh burger and a Kir Royale for "desert". They always have a special on and it was a Mexican burger that night which was savage. we had wings to share, 3 burgers and 1 hake with 3 bottles of wine and it was less than 150. Unbelievable value as well as great food.

A group of 6 went for a casual dinner and had a very enjoyable night. Great atmosphere in general although the room was a little too hot and the table slightly too small for 6 people. The food was great, very tasty avocado and tomato bruschetta, very fresh. I had the crab burger, which was great, although a little too large for me. Others had the verious steak burgers all of which went down well and the fish was also fresh and tasty and thankfully not swimming in butter. Desserts were traditional with a twist and very nice. I had the affragato, which was great. Good and reasonably priced wine list.

I paid my 3rd visit to this good restaurant recently after the busy lunch time period and found it to be almost empty at 2.15 so I had no trouble being seated. As before, I asked for a Southern Chicken Salad. As an extra treat I asked for a glass of house white wine to enjoy too. I didn't have to wait long. My dish arrived and I enjoyed every mouthful as I washed it down with the chilled tasty wine. The meal was fine. The crispy chicken was lovely and there was plenty of leaves and nuts and other veggie bits. I had a good time there but I must sample a different dish during my next visit, perhaps fish & chips.

Had a nice brunch in here on Saturday around noon. Was very busy and had to wait for a table. When we were leaving there was queue outside the door. Food was great, had a really nice chicken salad and a coffee and some cinnamon toast. Lots of people ordering eggs benedict which looked delicious. Menu has a nice selection and would deffinitely go back for breakfast/lunch. Friendly staff too which was nice.

This place just cant be faulted, Great menu, delicious food and top class service. My partner and I are frequent visitors and visited again last weds with our 4 ear old son. Everyone was so well catered for My partner had his favourite eggs benedict, I had the delicious vodka and chilli marinated beef salad and mys on had the lemon sole and chips from one of the best kids menus I have ever seen. As usual everything about our experience was spot on. My son is asking to go back already, just another excuse for mammy and daddy to pay a visit :)

We ate here on a very cold night, didnt have a reservation but were seated despite it being busy. Staff are very helpful and efficient without rushing the customer. The restaurant was cozy and a welcome break from the cold. Three of us shared 2 starters, buffalo wings and crab cakes, we all had burgers, lamb, blue cheese and chicken, washed down with a bottle of house red, and finished with 2 shared desserts and coffees. Service was excellent, food was lovely and overall we had a lovely night. Recommended for a cheap and cheerful dinner, and I believe breakfast and lunch are good also!

LIBERTY FOR ALL Had an early evening reservation for Washington Street’s Liberty Grill yesterday and walked in to find the place full. As I left, about 8.00pm, the second “shift” of customers was arriving. Not bad for a Wednesday evening. They keep coming to the Liberty because here you get good food, good value and good friendly service, not to mention a decent degree of comfort and the all important “buzz”. Dishes are not necessarily high end but that doesn't prevent them from being top class. Take my starter for instance: a spiced beef salad with chestnuts. Excellent, innovative. It cost me €8.95 and is also available as a main course. The Spiced Beef is part of the seasonal specials for December. Liberty, a member of Good Food Ireland, has an extensive menu and it uses these seasonal specials to increase the variety. They are usually worth checking out! As long as I’ve been coming here, I’ve never had one of their burgers and it is for burgers, and the sheer variety of them, that Liberty is so well known and loved. I tried the Lamb Burger, served with lettuce, cucumber, tomato and a bowl of fries plus a dip. It was a splendid piece of locally sourced meat, (from Carrigaline, I think). Happy food but good food and all for €13.50. You have to wait 25 minutes for the lamb burger, 20 for the others. But if you’re having a starter, as I did, you won’t notice the wait and in any case, it is worth it.

I am a little addicted to Liberty Grill. The perfect stopover on my stroll into town and always a lovely atmosphere. The service is always friendly and reasonably fast. However as a result of the great location and good atmosphere, at the weekends there is ALWAYS a queue to sit down (I think they only take reservations for dinner-not brunch). The main menu food is lovely and a really reasonable price. You can get a big breakfast, coffee and another drink for under €10. A great place to meet friends on a budget. The only issue I have with the food is that I should learn to be less adventurous...the food from the main menu is on the main menu for a reason. The specials for each month are just tests, and unfortunately don't work sometimes. The last day I went there I had poached eggs on potato cakes. The cakes were dry and the hollandaise sauce did not go with them at all. I had to order toast to go with my eggs instead. I have tried specials a few times and they never live up to the main menu. The main menu is always delicious though! Highly recommended!

I met a friend for breakfast mid week. The place seemed full of law/business types which is unsurprising given its proximity to the courthouse. I had an east coast breakfast: french toast, southern fried bananas (not the chicken southern fried style) and syrup with juice and coffee, which was a tenner. It was gorgeous, perfect. I'd never had bananas like that before and I will do them like that again. The coffee was good and plentiful and the OJ was fresh and with bits in. My friend had eggs benedict, a classic which I've had in there many times. Perfectly executed, fresh eggs, lovely bacon etc Great service, a small bit pricey for some things but the breakfasts with juice and coffee are a sure thing. Highly recommended

was here for luch with a friend and I hadn't been here for a while. It is still very nice and the atmosphere is very good. I love their selection of food for lunch but I sometimes feel that the menue is a little restrictive and that they could perhaps have more choices. the service is always good and the main thing is that their food is also very good for an affordable place. I love this place for just lunch or their breakfast menue is also excellent with dishes like eggs benedict ect..great place to go in for a brunch on a sunday with your other half or friend.

I love this restaurant. It's got a great atmosphere and the food is brilliant. Last time I went there they had these mini burgers on as a special and I'm still telling people about them! Only downside is that once you've ordered its hard to get your waiter's attention. I wanted to get another soft drink but in the end I just stuck with water because I couldn't get anyone's attention. It was a busy night though so I wouldn't hold it against them.

Liberty Grill continues to be the best value eatery in Cork. They use quality produce from local suppliers. It must be the best place in Ireland for breakfast, eggs benedict to die for! Saturday morning is normally busy but absolutely worth the wait. I can't recommend it enough.

Best place for brunch in Ireland. Almost always get the eggs benedict, its amazing! The interior is lovely and fresh. Tried the Halloumi cheese sandwich and the seared beef salad last time with a friend; the Halloumi was great but the beef in the salad was a bit tough. Lovely service...

I was surprised at how busy the restaurant was for a Tuesday night - the place was nearly full and there was a great atmosphere. If anything it was a little bit too loud. Our waitress was very efficient and friendly. The smoked salmon and Spicy buffalo wings for starters were a taste of the great main courses that were to come. My medium-rare fillet steak was cooked exactly as I like it and my other half also loved his Tennessee Flambe with plenty of veg/chips/potatioes. We found the portions quite big so shared ice-cream for dessert. The only draw back to the night was that parking was hard enough to find. We had a 7.30 booking which maybe clashed with visiting times at a nearby hospital.

Delicious & friendly. My friend & I were long over-due a visit. I've seen people que outside the door for lunch & now I know why. Heard super things & we were very impressed. The restaurant was full even on our visit on a wett Thursday evening. Cobb salad was crisp, fresh & refreshing. I've never seen it on an Irish menu before. The deep fried Campanzolo was amazing. I'm eating that the next time I visit. We both fancied fillet steak cooked/seasoned to perfection. Washed down with a very impressive Rioja (reccommended by one of the waitresses) was sublime with the meat. Friendly, relaxed lovely waitresses & we cannot wait to go back. Keep up the great work Liberty - refreshing to have amazing food, service & location without the pretentious price tags.

A busy small restaurant in the heart of the city. It is easy to see how Liberty grill does well... the food is good, service prompt and friendly. The lunch menu consists mainly of burgers and salads and we had a fish & chips (€10) and crab burger (€13). The crab burger won hands down.. plenty of crab meat with chilli (but in a tiny bun!). One concern is that the tables are really close together - so grand for a quick lunch but I'm not sure for dinner. All in all a good place to eat.

This visit was a little bizarre. We had booked a table for 2 at 12:30pm but they declined in at 10am this morning due to no tables available. Obviously, I did not check my mail before I went in for lunch so we did not know that it was canceled. We got a seat and sat down. When people started to queue up, I overheard the staff saying that there was no tables available to others so I stood up and said I had a booking but did not announce it upon arrival. It was only then I found out that my booking was cancled but we still got a seat for 12:30pm for lunch! Other than that: Atmosphere, medeocre. It felt rushed and uninviting. The food was ok. I had the falafel burger. My pitta bread was chewy and hard to eat and there wasn't much falafel in it. The coffee was great though. My partner had the pancakes and bacon. It was adequate. Small portions though The service was not good. Not what I expected at all. The staff looked confused and some of the customers were agitated. Not a nice experience. Value for money was ok. we spent 23 euro for something that we could have paid less for and gotten more of. Will not be returning.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! I would eat here daily if I had the choice but as it stands I visit roughly once a week. Whether it's a laid back brunch with girlfriends, a quick lunch or a rosemantic dinner with himself, it always hits the spot. My absolute fave for brunch is the crab cake hollondaise- pure luscious indulgence! And for lunch/dinner the seared beef salad- perfection on a plate! Helpful and happy staff, clean cut interior, fresh local ingredients and very reasonably priced. I have serious love in my tummy for the Liberty Grill! Don't take my word for it- try it yourself!

Went here for the first time for lunch yesterday I was very impressed. Although it was very busy and we did have to wait to be seated, it was worth it. Also I think it is a good sign when a place is busy. I had the veggie breakfast for €9.95 which comes with your choice of eggs which were lovely poached, sourdough toast, and your choice of two sides I got the mushrooms and tomatoes. You also get orange juice and tea/coffee. Overall it was very nice my only disappointment was with the portion of the food, there wasnt enough toast and I had to ask for the orange juice as the waiter forgot all about it and then questioned me saying he didnt think it was included in the price but it said it on the menu. Also they did not have proper black pepper which I think is ridiculous for a place that cooks its food very well, I cant eat eggs with out cracked black pepper. My friend got the posh toast was really tasty and the soup was lovely. Overall worth a try for the food but the service can be slow and not the most helpful.
Response:
Hi Lucy, Cheers for the post. I apologies for the waiter he was on trial..the less said the better. just in case you visit again both cracked and ground black pepper available. regards Denis

I dine in the Liberty Grill a lot and like most people I come back every time for the Eggs Benedict. Their range of burgers and salads are varied and uniformly tasty and their specials are also carefully considered. I had the pancakes special after my Eggs Benedict (banana with dulche de leche) and it was great comfort food, especially the gloopy, sugar sweet sauce. The owner/manager seems to know his food and can talk about responsible sourcing and quality ingredients, which is reassuring. If I had one quibble it would be with the service. Sometimes it´s good, sometimes it can be awful. Often when clearing plates the waiters or waitresses will not ask you if you want anything else and leave you straining to get their attention when you do decide if you want a cup of tea or the bill. However, this is outweighed by the quality and value of the food itself.
Response:
Hi GreedyGourmand, Thanks you for your kind words regarding the food. You are spot on about the calling back for tea's and coffees. That is my fault as I personally don't like to rushed. But I can see your point, I will discuss with all the crew on the floor and find a happy medium. Look forward to seeing you again. Denis

last night was our first visit to Liberty grill. It's cosy without being overcrowded. The staff are really friendly and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The courses are nicely spaced out so I still had room for desert! good portion sizes and tasty too. The only down sides were the wine was brought to the table opened and they do not have a liqeur licence so Irish coffees are out of the question. this was disappointing as it would have been a nice way to finish the meal.

Great meal here. Have come here numerous times. Service was great and very attentive. They were very accomodating to one of us who ordered slightly off the menu. one had salad, one had crab burger and i had the liberty chicken. All of us cleaned our plates. i was delicious. Dessert i had the chocolate brownie. i wasnt too happy with it as i found it to be quite hard. Overall, it was a good dining experience and i will return here again.

Lovely spot in Cork City, dined here on a Tue night, and the place was surprisingly busy and had a great buzz about it which was just what we were looking for. We shared the chicken wings to start and they were delicous, cooked perfectly and served with a tasty sour cream dip. I had the sea bream for main which I think was a special on the night, it was very tasty and fresh. It was served with a curry potato sauce which was gorgeous, the only complaint I would have is that it was on the bone which I didn't realise and it wold have been a lot easier if it had been deboned. The burger and chips were greatly enjoyed by my boyfriend. Service is great here, efficient and unobtrusive. Will defintely be returning to this lovely spot.

Three of us went for lunch and the place was packed so service was a bit slow. We had to wait a bit but it was worth it! The halloumi salas was delicious and the cheese was cooked perfectly:thin and crispy. The bue cheese burger was nice and the falafel was reportedly very tasty. The portion of chips was big and the affogato (cofee with ice-cream) is a great idea. The pancakes were also nice. I love this place. The only bad thing is waiting to get a table.

Liberty grill does the best breakfast/brunch in town-no contest. I've been there twice recently. First time I had poached eggs (perfect) with smoked salmon on sourdough toast with perfect hollandaise. Second time I had a crab cake (which wan't mean on the crab meat- very tough to find) with poached egg and hollandaise. Both dishes were executed to a really high standard and were unbelievably good value at around the €7 mark. My girlfriend had chowder the last time we were in and she said it was one of the best ones she has tasted-and she knows her chowder. At €5 this dish is fantastic value. The setting is nice and the very clean presentation of the dishes matches the clean neat decor. You can get a plunger of excellent coffee too, which I prefer every time to the standard americano. Service is a little iffy but you'd get over it. This place is very busy at weekends for very good reason. Looking forward to trying the evening menu

The steak sandwich is unbelievable and cooked exactly how you like it. When I asked the waiter was it cooked to order he seemed horrified t the idea that it might not be. Pretty much everything on the menu is delicious and very affordable. The brunch is almost ludicrously cheap, though the portions are not very large for brunch and it is guaranteed to be packed. The wine is great, I believe they do most of it by the glass and will give you a taste before you order if you ask.

Went here with a group of friends and while the food is amazing we were left waiting nealry 45 minutes for our main courses. We had to ask the staff about where they were. Which was a pity becasue it put a bit of a dampner on the nite as we didnt like having to remind the waiters that we were waiting nearly an hour for food. I will definately go back there but with the anticipation that we wont have to point out that we're waiting for our food! :)

I urge everyone to try the Egggs Benedict at the Liberty. This is an undoubted treat and hang the cholesterol- this is a dish to die for and the Liberty execute it perfectly. I have never been disappointed with either tthe service or the food here and I love the Georgetown-Washington atmosphere of the place

this place is always busy so its best to book ahead. they have the best burger in cork although they won't cook them less than medium-well which doesn't suit everyone. the steak salad is probably the best i've ever had. and you can't beat the brunch on a saturday morning. the que will be out the door as you can't make reservations for brunch but its worth the wait!

Was there with a friend and our kids for an early dinner, our waitress was lovely, attentive and friendly and ensured we were served quickly and without delay as we were in a hurry. The food was delicious and we'll definatley be back. Her colleagues were a slightly annoying, one gentleman would without fail approach the table 5 minutes after each time our waitress had been with us and the other made us feel slightly uncomfortable as he watched us from behind the counter, many people do not like to be observed while eating.

I met some friends here for dinner as I had been previously impressed by their lunches. It was one of the nicest meals I have had in along time! First of all it was FULL at 8pm on a Monday evening, we got the last table. Staff were very plesant and accomadating. The menu is straightforward and very tasty. We had the medallions of beef, I got two generous fillet steaks, cooked perfectly, all for under 20 euro!! There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere, you could meet friends for burgers, or go for a romantic meal for two, its just simple and comfortable. I think this is now my favourate Cork eatery-high praise indeed!!

Really cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I have had dinner here on several occassions and never been disappointed yet. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and due to it's size quite cosy. You will find groups of all sizes and ages eating here. There is something on the menu for everyone i just love their steak & fries! Staff are really efficient and welcoming and always check to see your meal/wine etc are ok during the meal. Just wish it was open every day!

I have been to this restaurant twice for dinner and both times it was delicious! There is a great selection of starters, some really interesting salads and lots of burgers including veggie and fish options to choose from. The staff are great and it is definitely one of the best value for money places to eat in Cork city.

I went here for lunch with work colleagues. Since there was a lot of us, we phoned in our orders beforehand, which was very handy, so we weren't waiting long for our food. The food was very good, as was the service, and it was reasonably good value. My only complaint is that it was very packed & the tables are quite close together.

This is a great place to have a Sunday brunch. Im glad I tried my first eggs benedict here, poached to perfection!French toast is great too. Service is excellent bit of a wait from 1230-2 00 but quiets down after that. Can't go wrong with the burger special for lunch.

This is a great place to pick up a breakfast or brunch. It's one of the few places I've come across in Cork that serve porridge! The porridge was served with a delicious blueberry compote, which was freshly made and very tasty. I'd also recommend the French bread, which was a very healthy serving, for a reasonable price. They also provided a selection of newspapers in the morning.

I think this is a great restaurant and probably one of the best in Cork city. It's simple food done well and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I a huge fan of the Halloumi Burger and the chilli crab toast to start is fantastic. This place is well worth a visit!

Went here for breakfast on a saturday morning! we had to que for about 20 mins to get seated, and that that was before the rush started and people where quing out the door... Nothing special about the place, just a hyped up American Diner with clean tables and slim waiters. The food was nice but very simple. However well presented and very tasty. I would like to try this place out for dinner next time and maybe have a bottle of wine as they seemed to have that diner/wine bar feel to the place. The price is ok, but what really makes the place is their thin long crispy Fries. Yum Yum...

The food was nice, went with a few friends.. we ended up having to shout across the tables to each other due to the noise. It's very small, we did have enough space, but whatever the acoustics of the restaurant are, it seems to amplify everything around. The meal was nice but the inability to hear others at the same table was a big problem.. I wonder if something simple like putting up a few wall hangings to dampen things would be all that's needed. The service was good and I loved the decor I'd go again, but have my fingers crossed its not full.

This was our third time here. Food wa excellent but the problem with the opening door continues. It was a very cold night and every time the door opened in came a gush of cold air. It was quite noticable as a lot of people left their coats on. We asked to be changed to another table and was dismissed. Another table asked for the heatin to be turned up and was told it was at its highest. Surely there is a solution to this problem, another restaurant in cork has a curtain around the door. Value for money was great and food was excellent. Please listen to your customers.

We booked a table on Sat night for 9.15pm. We received a phone call that afternoon confirming the booking. However when we got to the restaurant, they didn't have a table for us, as another table hadn't been told that they were to leave the table by 9pm. We were told to come back in 10 mins - this was at 9.30. When we went back at 9.50 we still had to wait another 10 mins. We were given a complimentary bottle of plonk. It was 10.35 when we got our starters and 10.55 when we got our main courses which were charred. I will never go back there again and will never recommend them to anyone. The manager just kept saying it's the best I can do when we complained
