5 of us went for work dinner at 6pm on the 21st of December. Lovely lovely. A busy night of course but lovely food and very attentive service. The bread was fresh and warm, the black pudding starter tasty and the main course fish cooked to prefection. I was the only drinker and great to be able to buy wine in a bigger quantity then a glass but less than a bottle. We had an out time of 8 and no hassel to move on just a gentle glance, very professional. Only quibble would be some staff were very experienced others not so much. But on the whole great little restaurant rediscovered.

Wonderful food, great atmosphere and what a value menu for the quality. We were in Cork for a few days before Easter and had just read a review in the Examiner the weekend before extolling the virtues of the food, cooking and service. We had to agree, a three course meal of this quality for E25 was a bargain. The smoked chicken salad was lovely and the hake was beautifully fresh and straight off the boat. The desserts were great and we were offered a glass of prosecco on the house - a really nice touch. Would highly recommend it and look forward to going back next time we are in town.

I was there 2 weeks in a row on a Wednesday when they do there set dinner all night for €25. It was great to be able to go out to dinner at the later time of 8pm and still be able to avail of special offers. I had the hake for main course and it was superbly cooked! So good I had it on my second visit as well! The restaurant is in a great location to continue on to some bars for a drink after.

Hi, Ate here last Thursday for a business meal. Atmosphere was next to none and the service was top notch, with the waiter having the perfect etiquette and balance of being attentive yet not over-bearing at the same time. I got the steak for my main meal. The meat would crumble in your mouth and you could take as many or as little sauteed potato slices as you wished. If also came with the perfect amount of garlic butter (which melted into the steak), onions and mushrooms. As I was so full from the main meal, I only got the ice cream for dessert (under any other circumstances I would most definitely have gone for the chocolate fudge cake as it looked divine). The ice cream was vanilla pod with some raisins and sherry with sugar powered homemade hazelnut biscuits on the side. The sherry was a little strong for my personal liking (everyone loved it), but I crumbled up some of the biscuits and put them into the ice-cream and it was like a dream. Will certainly be coming here again soon!

Jacques is by far offers the most delicious food I have ever eaten from a restaurant. This was my fifth visit and as per usual the food was well prepared, full of flavour, varying textures to contrast eachother and excite the mouth. I eat out quite a lot and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food in jacques. They offer 3 menus and so are flexible in price. In comparison to supposed high quality restaurants where one could pay up to 200 euro on a meal for two Jacques food far surpasses these pretentious restaurants where the cooking is merely competant. The wine list is outstanding! The service is of medium standard. The only problem experience was when my partner went to the bathroom there was only 1 cubicle available in the men's room. However I would highly recommend this restaurant without a second thought to lovers of good food.

We visited here last night for a family occasion. Overall we were left feeling very disappointed by our experience. First of all there was a dirty knife at one of the place settings which we handed back and got little or no apology. For the main course I chose the vegetarian option which read as parsnip, apple, hazelnut, potato gratin in a cashel blue cheese with aubergine and tomato. However, I was bitterly disappointed to receive a lump of potato gratin with parsnips on the side. Luckily, I had ordered a side of red cabbage otherwise it would have been a hungry night. I mentioned to the waiter i was unhappy with my food, to which he replied you can't really taste the aubergine and apple in this dish! May I ask what is the point of putting these ingredients in if you can't taste them??!! I found two hazelnuts through the potato. We were told after almost having an argument with waiter that we would not be charged the whopping €23 for the gratin. Two people at my table ordered monkfish, while it was nicely cooked it was cold. Didn't complain on this one as we hadn't got any satisfaction so far. To finish our night when the bill arrived the famous gratin was included, even though we were promised that we wouldn't be charged. Overall it was most disappointing dining experience, I could not recommend this restaurant. There are far superior places in cork city to eat, without the hassle.

I went to Jacques last night as a guest. I was a little apprehensive because of the previous review but it was like a totally different experience. First of all the place had a lovely look since I was last there warm colours, good seating candle light..... The food just sung of early summer . I had cork asparagus with a duck egg & lovely mustardy leaves< where can the ordinary person get asparagus in this town? I have tried alll the markets> Then I had lovely spring lamb with delicate lentils lots of fresh mint & gorgeous chard. I finished with a perfect rhubarb custard tart.

I very much looked forward to eating in this restaurant I had heard a lot about and so made a reservation last Saturday night. I ordered a green salad to start and when asked what leaves were in the salad, "Not just lettuce" was the disinterested response. Our order was taken in super quick time which lead to to believe that the floor staff were so busy they did not have time to waste - although the restaurant was half empty. We soon found out the reason why they were in such a hurry - to get back to the staff area where it seemed there was a lot more craic to be had than serving the customers. Indeed we had the most definite impression that whoever should have been in charge that night wasn't and while the cat's away... The salad arrived and was adequate. Tasted and looked suspiciously like M&S baby leaf salad though..My partner ordered the goat's cheese and was quite happy with it - the rhubarb compote complemented it perfectly. In the mean time our bottle of white wine was plonked on the table and it took some time to get one of the staff to get us a wine cooler - as the other tables had. Not once during the meal did the staff top up our wine - we had to do that ourselves. Staff were blatantly unaware of what was happening on the floor as the CD playing was left skipping for at least 5 minutes before we asked them to check the CD player. My main course of hake was bland and unappetizing - I can't remember when I had a more tasteless main course. My partner fared better with the chicken curry though which he really liked. The one saving grace of the meal was dessert which was really good - icecream and homemade hazlenut biscuits which were delicious. However overall this restaurant was a huge disappointment and we certainly wont be going back.

This is my favourite 'special occasion' restaurant, and it really has to be a special occasion because it's pretty pricey! I had a superb meal here after my graduation, I ate the poached pears followed by the rack of lamb which was perfectly pink and deliciously complemented by the hummus base, all acommpanied by a delicious rioja. I couldn't face dessert but the fresh berry concotion my mum got was to die for. The service is friendly but not in your face and I love all the old photos of Cork on the walls! I'll be going back once my piggy bank fills up again.

This is the nicest reataurant I have ever eaten in. It was a work night out with 2 clients from London & another 2 from Dublin & everyone agreed that the food was excellent along with outstanding service. They all asked that I book this restaurant the next time they visit Cork. You might be paying more but it is worth it.

The food was beautiful, but possibly a little overpriced. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere in the restaurant was just right for a romantic meal for 2. Ultimately, I'd definitely come back here again but it would have to be a special occasion because of the price.
