This is a restaurant with a decor and ambience second to none and has the food service to match. It's a place to go as a treat but also has value menus. I love eating here.

Jacobs on the Mall was lovely as usual, great Christmas atmosphere and a real buzz there. The early bird menu at Euro 27.00 + 10% service charge is excellent value. The only downside is the portions are as always a little small but the taste makes up for that. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Myself and boyfriend went to Jacobs last Saturday night for a treat as i had a voucher. Was well impressed and would definitely return again. Atmosphere. Was very surprised on walking it. It had a sense of conservatory about it. Bright and airy but not drafty. Food.... was delicious. I ate off the set menu and had the black putdding starter and chicken main. I don't normally order chicken out (but was tempted by the goats cheese potatoe cake and the salsa. Meal was delicioius. BF had the goats cheese filo to start and the steak off the a la carte menu. Tasted both and also were delicious. Finished off with the warm choc browny with Vanilla ice cream which was covered in warm choc cause. Top marks. And didn't feel sickly full afterwards which i normally would after 3 courses. Was perfect quantities. Service.... Very friendly. They even apologies for slow service as a group of 20 were served just before us. But didn't notice the wait at all. If i was to comment on one thing it was that twice i overheard the hostess commenting on a waitress service. I don't need to hear that. Not much of a fault but when everything else was perfect, you notice the little things. Only other thing was its been a long time since i've seen service charge included by default on the bill with no information as to whether this went to staff or not. Didn't know whether to leave tip or not or how much. Slight put damper on the last ten mins in restaurant. But as i said. Food and service was top notch and will definitly be back.

I went to Jacobs for my birthday and there were six of us altogether. I picked the restaurant as it is spacious, comfortable and relaxing i.e, your not sitting elbow to elbow with the next table. The menu offered a very good choice. Also, offered three different priced menus, a la cart, a two course meal for €23 and a three course for €28. And you can also mix and match between the menus. The staff were very efficient and helpful (almost too much if thats possible, and thats not a complaint). I had chicken spring roll with thai dipping sauce to start with. It was well seasoned, moist inside and crispy on the outside. It was just enough to leave you wanting more. My second course was chicken (again!), simply because the sound of the chorizo & potato gratin was too tempting! It lived up to my expectations! It was delicious along with spinach and celeriac puree. Presentation was very good and the flavours were excellent. I was too full for desert but managed to squeeze in a little chocolate ice cream which was adequate. Also avoid the coffee as it was extremely bitter. All in all its definitely worth a visit.

Got off to great start on recent visit to Jacobs on the Mall. I went for the Pumpkin Fritters with Parma Ham & Salsa Verde. Nicely balanced starter. Main course was a Duck Confit with lentils and chorizo ragout, buttered kale and champ. Normally you get one piece of duck but I got two moist legs, crispy on outside. The matching ragout was spot on. The desert was also top class: Date & Butterscotch Pudding with Fudge Sauce & Vanilla Ice Cream. Delighted with it. And indeed delighted with all three courses, even if some of them didn't feature on the advertised menu, but that will happen a bit as the restaurants buy fresh in the markets. Jacobs sell four whites and four reds by the glass. Enjoyed a Chilean Morande Pionero 2008 Chardonnay (€5.75) and a New Zealand Ta Moko Sauvigon Blanc (€6.25). Oh and by the way, the coffee was also of a high standard. Jacobs is quite a venue, as many of you will know. For those who have not been, the high ceiling, retained from its days as Turkish Baths, leaves a huge space which has been filled with large scale hanging shrubbery and lighting. The big expanse of wall is hung with art works. Chairs are quite plush and comfortable. The welcome is warm and service excellent.

Ate here with a group of 10. Great big room with a nice ambience. Private rooms and booths also available. For a big group I found the service excellent, all food served together and staff were very attentive. We all had the 3 course menu for €28 which offered very good value. Opened with the Cos Salad, maybe less leaves the next time and a bigger bowl with better presentation would help. For main I had the free range chicken which is not something I'd usually go for but it proved to be juicey and suculent. The best course was the dessert, date & butterscoth pudding, excellent. I wouldn't mind a go at the a la carte menu but for value the fixed price menu was worth the visit.

Not great for big groups. Service was slow because there didn't seem to be many staff on. The food was average at best. My lamb burger, which was cooked pink, was dry. I didn't think it was possible to achieve this but they did. I'd imagine it's lovely for a couple or a smaller group. The staff were nice but there just weren't enough of them. I was expecting much better. I will definitely give it a second chance, but not as a large group.

Jacobs on the Mall is where we always tend to go for business dinners. Everything about it is perfect. When you go in, the friendly staff hang up your jacket for you, and you are then offered a selection of fresh various breads as well as individual butters. The menu is perfect. You can choose from anywhere on the menu (including the set menus) and for the quality of food, it is reasonably priced. For starters I had the goats cheese tart - best I have ever had. And for the mains I had the steak, which was huge and perfectly done with divine mash and mushrooms. For dessert, I had the warm apple pie with ice cream. Jacobs on the Mall is perfect for something special!

I've been to 'Jacobs' many times & love the place. Once read a review that said "the devil was in the detail". Wise words I feel. I'm a sucker for a warm welcome, nice bread, a G&T with a slice of lime... Too mush to ask? They used to have it (circa 2000's) Lacking now. However the chef does what I love most about food. The taste is... try it amazing. I can get over the tired looks, stained furniture & lack of detail (have to remind myself that I paid small money). Restaurant = food to me. Adeguate service & wine is a bonus. If only Jacobs could strike the balance?

My wife and I really enjoyed our first experience of Jacobs. The service, atmosphere and food where the best in Cork. The set menu is well priced. The wine menu is great. Nothing to fault at this place and would recommend this place and will be back again. The person that complained about the bathroom being too far probably needs more exercise anyway! P.S. the apple and pecan tart with caramel ice-cream is amazing.

I had dinner here with my family and we all really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere was nice and we were in a side booth, built into an alcove in the wall which was lovely. The menu is now great value for money for good food. Only complaints are that it was very cold and although the service was friendly and polite, all courses took ages to come out of the kitchen. Having said that, I would go back.

Really enjoyable experience, very relaxing, food was really well presented and really delicious.Very good value for money. The staff were very attentive. The only problem I had was the menu is a little limited ( understandable as is now good value). There was one main course on the specials - scallops. I went to order and was told it was now off(7.30). I eat fish but not meat - there were two other fish dishes one was cod but had bacon in the dish so I asked if could have without bacon - was told no but didn't want salmon so had the cod anyway and picked the meat out - not ideal but saying that the cod was really good.My friend's were also happy with what they choose. Of note was the blue cheese and pear salad(starter) and the free range chicken stuffed with white pudding. Deserts were delicious but the the cheese boards were a bit on the mean side. Overall really had a nice time and no rush, great place to go to catch up with friends.

I went to Jacobs with my husband for my birthday. Having been here years before on a voucher that I got from work the only reason we were returning was because I got another €100 voucher from work! I was expecting that it would barely cover the cost of 1 meal with wine, but I was pleasantl surprised. There was a choice of a 2/3 course set menus costing €26/29 respectively. The food was lovely service was great. They served freshly baked bread while we were waiting. I had the caesar salad to start - nearly a main course size portion. 10oz steak for main and a choclate creation for dessert on the whole very enjoyable and we left with change of €30 out €100. Not bad!

Food and service were excellent. I had the goats cheese in filo with pesto and it was to die for. The portion sizes were just right, not too much or too little. Would definitely return

Had been to Jacobs before and didn't think it was as great asreputation usggested however this visit was amazing! New menu offers 3 courses for just 28 euro and you can mix and match this with al a carte and they charge accordingly! Food was lovely, roast cod cooked to perfection with lovely mash and kale with bacon! we almost licked the plates. Starters were really good too. Dessert was to die for the best shortbread I have ever eaten and my other half had probably the best sticky toffee pudding in the world! Wine list was nice a varied. Cant recommend it highly enough! cant wait to go back!!!

Came here for a meal with my boyfriend over the bank holiday weekend. Not from the area, we kind of stumbled across the restaurant. Initially when we went at 630 - it was very empty so we decided to go back a bit later, by 9 we were lucky to get a table, so might be worth booking in future! Decor is a little strange but a great atmosphere in the restaurant, it feels much smaller than it actually is. The quality of the food was fantastic, we both loved each course however, the portions are quite generous (usually a good complaint but we both struggled through our desserts and felt uncomfortably full after!). Just a little over €100 for 3 courses and wine which was very reasonable for the quality and setting. We were overcharged on one item but the staff were extremely helpful in altering this and were attentive throughout the night, although they do have a bit of a strange serving manner (they walk past your table initially and then loiter a bit to see if you need anything!) Would definitely go back and would gladly recommend them.

Overall I was pleased with Jacobs. Food was very good, good sized portions as well. Service was adequate if not a bit slow. One thing to note is there is a 10% service charge included in the bill. Mains were a bit pricey but other than that it was fine.

Ok, but not again. We were really looking forward to dinner in Jacobs, and unfort. came out dissapointed. Good points- starters were great, scallops were cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. Service was attentive and fast, so no complaints there. The wine list is also pretty good. Bad points: Mains were overpriced - sirloin steak was 30 quid. If your gonna charge 30euro for a steak, make sure its a very good fillet. Overall price for 2 was 150euro, and included 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 cheese board, 2 glasses of bubbles to start and a bottle of red. It was also boiling in the dining room, and you have to walk for ages to get to the bathrooms.... So, I guess we won't be back. There's definately better value to be had, so Jacob's lower you prices or just bite the bullet and order in some fillet steaks.

There are many words I would like to use to describe my experience here but none are very lady-like :/ I'm going to be nice and suggest that maybe the reason I was served up utter (insert word here) was because a lunatic broke in, tied up the chef and had a go himself. The vegetables were greasy, the meat chewy. Although I had a different meal to my friend, both dishes were floating in unreduced red wine jus which tasted burnt and greasy. Fortunately we didn't have to pay for one of the dishes as we complained about the food. I hate sounding so harsh but I'm being honest. I was so disappointed as I had heard great things. Saying that, my husband went there years before me and he enjoyed it.

We had our pre christmas dinner here for work. I had been expecting amazing things, owning to it's reputation as one of Cork's most exclusive restaurant and while our meal was enjoyable, it wasn't entirely mind blowing and but for the fact that the company were paying for it, I don't think I would have been happy to pay upwards of €80 pp for what I got..That said I was impressed with the surroundings and would probably return but only if someone else was treating me!!

Food is nice bad the service is great but for what you are paying you should get bigger portions, a lot bigger portions. I'm 6'2 and only 11st but I would easily eat two main courses as 1. Don’t know if I would go back, maybe for a special occasion.

A lovely looking restaurant with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The service was great and they managed our table of 18 people very well. The food was delicious, however not a great menu for vegetarians. The steak was highly recommended by my meat eating friends.
