A good value mid week lunch. The food is good, the service fine. Its a restaurant, not a pub and its food reflects this. The atmosphere lets it down a little. It is good, just not great.

It was my first time going to this restaurant and I have to say I wasn't overly impressed. It was a wet and cold night but we had to keep our coats on as it was pretty cold in the restaurant. The menu doesn't have a lot of choice in it and on the night the server told us that a couple of items were unavailable which limited it even further. I had prawn & crab cocktail and the Morroccan lamb. Both were fine but nothing particularly special. The service was ok, again it just lacked something.

I am generally very fair in my reviews and I err on the positives rather than the negatives. I had lunch here with my friend. To be honest it was a big let down. The food was ok but the guy who served us was totally disinterested and we felt that we were more of an annoyance than 2 paying customers. It totally lacked atmosphere and when we went to pay the person at the till didn't even say thanks - in fact he said nothing to us. The food was ok as was the price but the attitude or lack of it made us feel uncomfortable. I have been here a few times and in general it has been allrightish but I will take a rain check on whether I will go back or not. Come on Guys - SMILE - and communicate.

HARVEY'S: BETTER ON THE WEB! HARVEY’S Heard some good reports (mainly lunch/brunch) about Harvey’s of Academy Street. Checked out their website and was quite impressed. Booked a table for dinner and was expecting great things. But the website flattered the place. Both it and the entry in Whazon says it is fully licensed but they sell only wine, no beer. The expansive list of dishes on the web is a fiction as the actual a la carte menu was much more restricted, disappointingly so. Another letdown came when we asked for dessert. Just five on the list and two of those were “off”. Coffee on the web is set at €2.00 but its actual cost is €2.50. Started with a pretty average Bruschetta of vine tomatoes, fresh basil and garlic. My main course wasn’t bad at all and well priced at €18.95. It was Ribeye Steak, cooked as requested, with onions and mushrooms, a wee bowl of salad and chunky handcut chips and Cafe de Paris butter. Following a decent Tomato and Red Pepper Soup, the other main course wasn’t as satisfactory. It was deep fried Brie with Parma Ham and a red onion marmalade on salad leaves (12.95). Three generous chunks of cheese and the ham were mounted on a mound of iceberg lettuce, a few slices of cucumber and three cherry tomatoes and no noticeable sign of any dressing. Dessert was a non event so we finished off our average house wines which were priced at five fifty to six fifty per glass. Oh yes, that glass. They use a small non standard wine glass and fill it to the very brim. So don’t swirl and don’t put your nose in! One person at the table ordered Coke. The glass was filled from a large bottle; the Coke was flat and lukewarm and cost was €2.20. The city centre bistro, which does a 3 course early bird for €20.00, is neat and tidy with very good space between the tables. It was busy enough on the weekend night that we visited and service was efficient.

Lovely little restaurant, the staff were very friendly and the food was good, by no means Michellin standards but in my opinion much better from what other people have said about in below reviews. I had the ribeye steak, cooked just as I ordered, the better half had duck with she loved. He had a bottle of the house red which went down a treat and all at a very reasonable price. We are going to go back soon and try the early bird menu, 2 courses and a glass of wine for €19, always nice to find in January when the funds are tight

Arrived to the restaurant at around 12.50, received menus and sat just under the kitchen..literally! We flicked through the menu, decided what we'd like, and closed the menu. We waited at least 10 mins until someone came to take our order. Now, if they were rushed off their feet i'd say something. When we gave out order, we waited another 10 mins until we received our drinks at which were just plonked on the table, no queries to who was having what. at about 1.35 we finally received our food. We both ordered the same thing- a chicken and bacon taglatelle in a white wine sauce. In fairness it didn't taste that bad, the chicken didn't taste very real and the bacon was a quite fatty but it was ok otherwise. Even though it may not seem that we had to wait a huge amount of time for anything, what annoyed me most was that people who arrived in the restaurant after us, were getting served before us. After the meal, we asked for the bill but once again we were left waiting, we were waiting about 10 mins so my partner decided to just go up and pay. It came to just under 30e altogether which isn't that bad. Over all between the atmosphere and service, we were very unimpressed. As we were leaving, I spotted another couple who had arrived just as we had received our food, and they hadn't ordered yet and were looking very anxious, felt like recommending them to leave!!

The restaurant is middle of the road. I had lunch there today and price is good and also good choice. The Kitchen is too near the eating area and as the ceilings are low it gets very stuffy. Also we were rushed at the end with our plates almost taken before we were finished.

I’ve had a lot better. The restaurant looks appealing from the outside, and has a tasteful interior, but I felt it lacked a little atmosphere. However, a warm welcome from staff and iced water with lemon were provided on arrival. A €20 three course set menu is offered here in the evenings with starters such as caeser salad, chicken wings, soup, mains include pasta, sirloin steak, and curry, and for desert a choice of cheesecake or tiramisu. I went for an a la carte lamb korma served with rice and naan (€14), and my other half decided on the set menu – chicken wings, beef balti and cheesecake. The wings were good, with a large salad and sweet chilli sauce. The mains however were a different story completely. Korma was bland, land in my opinion the lamb was very fatty, Balti tasted more like beef stew. Naan breads were bought in. We didn’t stay for desert as the bad mains put us off. I’m not sure if I’d be back. It looks like a lovely restaurant, and with a better chef could compete with the best.

Rudeness abound. This place came recommended by a friend and I agreed to have lunch with her here, having eaten here before without any bad experiences. I ordered Lasagne, while my friend ordered Thai Red Chicken Curry. Both dishes were well thought out and well executed. My friends only complaint was that she'd have liked more of the curry, which shae said was delicious. The food was not the issue here. The abrubt manner in which we were dealt with by the waiter was an absolute embarrassment both for us and his colleagues. The icing on the cake was when my friend commented on how much she liked the curry, but would have liked more. She was sharply told "€10.95, 7 pieces of chicken, thats what you get". My friend's jaw dropped. She said she was only making a comment, not a complaint and had never heard such rudeness. He then raised his voice and began an argument, accusing her of shouting at her! Needless to say they lost at least 2 customers that day and will never get a chance with me again. Such a pity because the food isn't half bad.

As a frequent diner at Harvey's I have to say that I am rarely let down by the food and service offered. I've had many of the specials over the past number of weeks and months. My favourite dish on the menu is the scampi with the ever so tasty lemon mayonnaise that comes with. I've always know the staff to be ever so friendly and accomodating and the wait time for service is always prompt. When people ask me to recommend somewhere for breakfast, lunch or dinner in town, Harvey's always comes to mind.

the food in harvery's is quite good but it is completely let down by the service. when we arrived we were told we had to wait for a table even though there was 3 4-seater tables free. when we asked if we could sit at one of them the waiter said that because there was only 2 of us we would have to wait for a 2-seater just in case 4 people came in (there were 3 tables free!!). the food came and was nice but it was plonked onto the table like the waitress just didn't want to be there. when we asked for some water she just grunted back at us. i would go back here to eat but only if they got new staff!

I was very dissapointed with Harveys. 4 of us went there at 3:10 pm on Sunday. It wasn't particularly busy and there were 3 waitresses working. We waited at the door for 5 minutes before being greeted or shown to our seats. 10 minutes later we still had not gotten any menus. Eventually we asked for menus. The waitress who took our order wasn't friendly but she wasn't exactly rude either. After ordering our meals and drinks (2 Diet cokes, a glass of white wine, a bottle of red between 3 of us and a jug of water for the talble). The waitress then brought 4 glasses of water over and mysteriously gave us 2 of them and the table next to us the other 2 (they appeared surprised). We then waited a further 15 minutes for the rest of our drinks. When they did arrive we had to ask for the third of our wine glasses and one more glass of water (the waitress having brought over 1) Our food arrived (to be fair it only took 20 mins from ordering). However we were still without cutlery. We had to ask for that and it took about 5-6 minutes before we could eat. The food itself was pretty disappointing. The Caesar salad was was bland. The beefburger was over cooked and it was just the beef on a bun with 3 strips of bacon. The club sandwich was fine as was the salmon wrap. We waited for another 10 mins to get the bill and got out of there (we didn't bother arguing over the fact that even though 3 of the meals came with chips and even though we ordered another portion - what we got were 2 bowls to share between 4 - I can't work that one out myself).

Very nice atmosphere in the place. I like the fact you can see into the cooking area. Staff were nice and friendlyl. Food overall was nice. I had the scampi - I wouldn't say it was very tasty and considering you only get a small salad with chips, I think the prices might be a bit much. But I would go back and try something else on the menu.

Still the best food in Cork, We often have lunch here but decided to try them one evening for dinner. It was absolutely superb, their ethnic dishes are the best ever tasted. We both had salads to start Ceaser & a Goats Cheese which were perfect. Main courses were a Moroccan Lamb dish & a Malaysian beef curry tasted so good and the meat was so tender. Managed to save enough room for a dessert which we shared a chocolate tart with cognac, beautiful, staggered outside for coffee and a cigarette. We can't get enough of this place will always return. Well done.

Have eaten in Harvey's a few times, great atmosphere, not cramped at all and staff very friendly, It can be great value mid week but then at busy times and weekends they hike up their prices which does annoy me a bit. However they change the specials a lot. Salads for starters are fab and desserts lovely!! Always end up going back

I had a gorgeous goat's cheese salad here from the lunch menu. The cafe is quiet and not as busy as other nearby restaurants, especially at lunch time, which is a definite bonus.

I've eaten in Harvey's a few times and have had some really nice dishes, and some not so good. Their rib eye steak (with whatever sauce they have) is excellent- mouthwatering and tender. their fish dishes (like Cod goujons etc) are very nice too. However the crab burger is not fantastic at all. Other downers:portions can sometimes be small, and it lacks a little atmosphere. Don't let this stop you trying the place though- the specials change an awful lot and there may be something really good the night you go there. Overall, good.
