My second visit in a few weeks, again went for the earlybird menu, food in Hardwood is absolutely stunning and fantastic value, as it was a Thursday night it was quiet but we didn't mind. The fish pie to start and the white chocolate/raspberry cheesecake were both stunning. This restaurant is well worth a visit and we will be back again soon!

The food was excellent. We ordered from the early bird menu, which was 3 courses for €24. The duck crostini starter was delicious. I ordered the chicken with chive mash as a main course. It was one of the nicest chicken dishes I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and served piping hot. My other half ordered the duck main course. It was delicious as well. A little bit fatty but that's normal for duck. It came with sweet potato wedges which were fantastic too. We had cheese cake for desert which tasted like it was freshly baked. The only complaint about this restaurant is the service. It was terrible. It took at least 15 minutes to get the attention of the waitress to order another coffee. She never visited our table at all to ask if everything was ok, which it was. I noticed that a lot of other tables were trying to get her attention too. One couple were left sitting for 15 minutes with their empty main course plates sitting in front of them. It's a pity because if the service matched the food it would've been the best meal I've had in a long time.

Sunday brunches in Hardwood has been a favorite of mine for the past three years but i can't help getting annoyed with the service. Today for the third time ion recent months i gave my order and was left waiting over a half hour for the food whilst customers that came in after me tucking in. Unforunately the delightful brunch breakfast will not tempt me back this time.

Very good Food and Service. We had the Thai Chicken Soup A+ and the Chicken & Chorizo Skewer for starter and both was great after the homebaked choice of Bread and the free shot of Gazapacho. Main Course Swoedfish and the Lamb Shank cooked and spiced perfect. For Desert we shared the White Chocolate and Rasberry Tarte lovely. We will come again as Service, Food and Price was Perfect!

I just came back an hour ago from this lovely restaurant! It was one of the nicest ones I have been to in Ireland and the food was gorgeous. We had the early bird menu (2 courses for 24euro and 3 courses 28euro), which was great value for money! As a starter I had the bbq baby ribs, gorgeous marinade and a tasty little salad with it and the meat fell of the bone, it was that tender, and my boyfriend hat the crab cakes which where very nicely presented and tasted fantastic also. As mains we ordered duck and chicken supreme, both where really nice and tender, the sauce with the duck was sooo nice and creamy. We also had a bottle of house wine which was recommended by the amazing waitress we had for the night! As a desert we shared the evening special, the strawberry-yogurt-souflet cake. I definitly recommend this restaurant highly since the food is high standard and the service is exellent, I will be back!

High notions, middling reality. Was dragged back to Hardwood at the request of my other half. Previous visits have been a blur of pretty tasty and inventive dishes but simply atrocious service. We went for the brunch menu, herself had the smoked salmon plate and I went for the eggs benedict. As usual there was confusion with our order (which literally was: 2 cups of tea, 1 salmon plate, 1 eggs benedict) even thought there was only 3 other tables of 2. Food arrived sloppily presented which was a first for me, the food is usually very carefully plated and decorated. My girlfriend enjoyed the salmon and its accompaniments, both of my eggs were slightly overcooked which was another first. The staff seemed more occupied with the staff member/former staff member/whatever at another table. I won't be back again, no point in paying money to come out annoyed.

I was so disappointed. I was a huge fan of this place but I went for an early bird last week and there were so many little things changed. I felt that the portions were much smaller and there was no free wine or soft drink. I got the fish and was only given 1 fillet which was small. Our waiter was not very good and there was another member of staff or friend eating there at the time and the staff just paid attention to her and were going in and out of the kitchen messing with her. I thought it was very inprofesstional and not really consistent with my other experiences with Hardwood. I hope things dont stay this way.

Went for the recession buster meal deal on a Tuesday night. there were 4 of us and we were make feel extremely welcome from the minute we walked in the door. Everything we all got was cooked to perfection, tasty, plenty of it and the service was immecible. Our waitress was really friendly but not too in your face. I really think this is such a great venu. I'd be happy to bring anyone there. Half thinking of booking it for my boyfriend's 30th. I haven't been anywhere in the last 12 months where the service and atmosphere is as good- especially in places where we've spent more than 4 times the cost of dinner here. I'll be back

Went as a group of 10 for a 30th birthday. The menu feels too expensive for the setting, although the dishes are worth it as they are interesting, and were really tasty and well cooked when we got them. Had a look at the EB menu, but it seems an extremely restricted choice of the normal one. We ended up only getting main courses and wine as would have been out of budget for the group, most were on the €25 mark with steak around €30. Most had either the boar, venison or steak, and to be fair the portions were hot, well presented and worth every penny taste wise. Wine list was good, decent mid priced ones and a couple of special ones if only 2, or for a special night. The coffees were made with real barista skill, so much so that one by one I think we all tested the patience of our poor waitress and ordered one as they were served. Service was excellent on that note, very friendly, and kept good pace going by clearing plates on time without rushing us. Still not totally convinced on price, we left €50 lighter each after only mains, coffees and drinks, as the setting to me is very much a bistro, but if you're willing, the food is worth it. Must try the recession buster next time!

An all round good restaurant. The food is top quality. The steaks are some of the best i have had. The service was a little slow, but maybe this was down to the fact they were so busy.

Grate place for dinner! Was here with my husband last night. I had Tomato and Sweet Pepper Soup and Grilled Carribean Jerk Pork Chop and he had Steamed Mussels and Steak. Also we had a glass of vine each and by scoop of ice cream. Everything was exceptionally cooked and very tasty, especially for the value of money – 20 e. Service was excellent. Definitely will come back again.

I was a bit disappointed with brunch. I had been here for dinner before and it had been good. On Sunday, service was slow and tea and coffee took a while to come. The eggs florentine were all right, a bit vinegary. The quality and quantity was good but I was expecting a bit more.

Four of us ate here on a saturday night. The food and service was excellent. The atmosphere was good and pretty much agrees with most oif the comments here. If what I had .The scallops were beautifully cooked as a starter. Also I found the cauliflower risottto fantastic withthe sea bass. All of the 4 people dining enjoyed the food. This was a bonus as one of the party is quite fussy. the steak hit the spot there. 4 people had starters, mains and desserts with cofees. Also had two bottles of Pinot noir. The bill was just over 200euros , so pretty decent for a saturday night.

Beat the hell out of the recession! Ate here last night with my fiancé, my sister and her boyfriend and all four of us were over the moon with the high standard offered. For only €20 you can get 3 courses and a glass of wine/beer/soft drink. That, in my opinion is nigh on impossible to beat. I had the tomato and roast pepper soup which was so flavoursome, warming and delicious. A dollop of mascarpone really enriched it and plenty of croutons too. My main was supreme of chicken florentine with a gorgeously flavoured potato cake and wilted spinach. Beautifully cooked and seasoned, and I NEVER order chicken in restaurants. The others tried the chowders, steaks and pork and we all tasted each others. Divine flavours and textures, perfectly sized portions and as for the service, it is simply unbeatable! The dessert is a scoop of their own homemade ice cream, which was cinnamon and biscuit last night. It was like silk. Well done guys! An amazing restaurant and true value during difficult times. I don't see you ever having roblems in a recession when you offer this kind of value to paying customers. I will keep coming back here confident that my experiences will get better and better. 5 stars, well done.

Ate here with hubby on sat for brunch, delicious! Steak and eggs for him, so big he didn't eat for the day, didn't touch the fried spuds or toast on the plate as he was too stuffed. I had eggs florentine, good stuff, the hollandaise was a little to claggy but overall a delicious meal. It's not just the food here, the staff are just brilliant, so friendly, so accomodating, just brill, nothing is too much! they're fab. I love this place

A superb restaurant. Myself and my fiance are regulars at this restaurant and have never had a bad experience. We recently tried their "recession menu" which is available on tuesday and wednesday evenings all night. It is amazing value at €20 PP for starter, main course, scoop of ice-cream and a glass of wine or beer. My fiance had seafood chowder and steak served with rustic roast potatoes and roast vegetables. I had steamed mussels and Jamacian jerk pork served with roasted corn on the cob and rustic roast potatoes and green beans. All of our dishes were cooked to perfection and delivered by the always friendly and efficient waiting staff. This restaurant is great value and is one of the best restaurants in Cork, highly recommended.

,my sis and i ate here on sunday last…best food ive eaten in a very long time!and i eat out on average twice a week!we had the early bird(€24 for 3 courses) For starters i had creole crab cakes and my sister the vine tomato bruschetta, mains were soy and ginger pork for myself and swordfish for her,the pork came with grilled asparagus (perfectly grilled i might add) and edam smash potato wrapped in parma ham,it was delicious, the swordfish came with mange tout, pearl onions, rosemary baked potato and a smoked tomato adobo, both plates were scraped clean!!! For desserts i had the white chocolate and raspberry tart and my sister the apple and blackberry crumble!!! Its well worth a visit esp for the early bird, staff were really nice and helpful and never once did we feel rushed! we will certainly be back again not as often as id like what with the 3 hour drive!!!

Myself and my wife had our baby shower here on Tuesday night with a group of 14. The service was very efficient and the food was excellent. I had the chowder and sirloin steak which were both delicious. The group ordered the white chocolate and raspberry tart which was equally tasty. My only slight complaint was that the room got very warm after a while and was a little uncomfortable. Other than that I would highly recommend this restaurant for couples or groups.

Had a meal here last night choosing to eat from the recession buster menu. the place was quite busy for a tuesday night but after we ate, I can see why. I ordered mussels while my partner had a salad for the starter. The mussels were fantastic, served in a pinot grigio cream sauce, they were lovely and tender big mussels. The salad was reported to be equally tasty. We both had steak for main course, it was delicous, flame grilled and served with various grilled veggies, my particular favorite being the corn on the cobb! Ice-cream was for dessert and the meal came with wine of beer. I opted for a lovely chardonnay which was very fruity! Overall this menu would be hard to beat, great tasting food using fantastic local produce and a good glass of wine to boot all for €20! I will definately be going back!

Dined here with my girlfriend on a friday night, the place was fairly busy but delt with excellently by the extremely friendly staff and management. I had the lamb which had only arrived on the menu and enjoyed every single bite! My girlfriend had the steak, cooked perfectly with a peppercorm sauce. We had beautiful bottle of french with the meal, top marks again, and finished with a warm chocolate fudge cake. A great evening, beautiful setting, food and staff. Could not recommend more

I raved about Hardwood previously as I have had fabulous fault free meals here. They menu has been changed since I was last there and it needs a fair bit of tweaking to bring it back to the restaurants previous high standards. My husband had the scallops dish with serano ham and wasabi and ginger and it just didn't work. I had a jerk pork dish for main which was this enormous hunk of pork on an already overfilled plate which was very offputting. I was disappointed this time, I hope it improves as it was easily one of the best restaurants in Cork in my estimation previously.

Absolutely loved this place and couldn't believe the value. Had a chorizo starter- fantastic and after talking to the very helpful waitress I ordered the wild boar( a first for me) which was delicious really nicely cooked and presented. The staff and management were so lovely when I ordered food off the normal menu and thought I was getting the early bird specials they were very kind. Highly recommend for a romantic meal or in a group. Even filled my boyfriend who does not appreciate the usual portion sizes in European restaurants!

We heard about this little jewel from many of our friends both living and working in Cork. We went there for a meal last Saturday night and it was fantastic. The staff were super; efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I haven't see that enthusiasm in a long time and it was refreshing. The whole place was sparking aswell which is also something you don't see enough off anymore. I had the chicken which really was cooked to perfection and my partner had the pork. The portions were big and cooked very well. We also had desert and coffee which was delicious. I normally don't rave about a place like this but it ticked all the boxes and it's been too long since I've eaten in a restaurant that does that...

FANTASTIC! I just had the Grilled Atlantic Salmon and it was incredible, I like to think I am a cultured man but was almost too tempted not to lick the plate (i used the spoon after much delideration). I have eaten here a few times, I advise people to come here if ever some one askes me where to eat in cork, the service is very friendly, the servings are always just right. the owners employ good people and the menu is pretty much as my opening gambit:- FANTASTIC. Go to the top of the class Hardwood. How on earth could any one rate this place and its menu other than supurbe

terrible!! the recession menu granted, but the chowder was as old as my mother, the soup resembled a pasta stir in sauce and the main courses were no better with dryed out chicken and rice pudding risotto! than we ordered a dessert which was nice however expensive at 8euro, however we asked not to have cream and have a scoop of ice cream instead, this cost us an extra 2euros bringing our dessert to 10 euro!!!!....madness!!!!! not to mention once we payed we had 4euro something coming back to us....but it didnt!!! we never saw our change again!!!! it must be someones cup of tea as it was busy but certainly not mine. very disappointed with the evening!!!!!

Had an excellent lunch here. I had the omlette and my partner had the oysters. The omlette was substantial and very tasty- the oysters were great value, served imaginatively and the total cost with a glass of wine was very very reasonable. Service was efficient and ffriendly. We will definitely return in the evening as the menue looks fantastic.

The food at Hardwood is great. I have been there a few times, for their early bird menus and their brunch. Each time the service was great. The presentation is wonderful. The starters and main courses are unreal but i felt that the desserts weren't brilliant, in range and flavour. They offer great early bird deals and a recession buster too and are very accommodating to coeliacs. The staff are very professional and nice. The restaurant and its' bathrooms are spotless. I would recommend it highly for brunch. I will continue to go back.

I had the 'recession buster' dinner here with my boyfriend last week and what excellent value it was! Available tue & wed from 6 - 10pm the word had obviously spread as the place was packed out. Despite the excellent value of starter, main, scoop ice-cream & glass of house wine (the red is better than the white incidently), it didn't mean standards had slipped in terms of food quality, presentation or standard of service. The spicy soup with croutons was warming & tasty and the steak really good. The service was very professional and friendly. Great deal! I continue to recommend it!

Fight the Recession!!!!! Ate there last tuesday evening. The Restaurant is currently running a new menu on tuesday nights...called "fight the recession". It has to be said that a glass of wine, starter, maincourse & choice of icecream for €20 is unbeatable in our current environment. The food as always was excellent. It is good to see that even though it is a special menu the quality and quantity of the courses is in no way different to the a la carte menu. The service and ambience were both warm and welcoming. I would rate this restaurant as probably the best cork has to offer!!

I loved this restaurant - went there for my girllfriend's birthday and it was excellent. The staff made a big deal of the fact it was her birthday (i got them to organise the cake etc) . The food was beautiful - i had the ribs for starters - (so good!) and crab cake for mains (melt in your mouth stuff) Overall i couldn't fault it - can't wait to go back! enjoy!

Had dinner here with friends recently and must say had a wonderful evening. I had duck for starter which was delicious and i had a really juicy rare fillet steak to follow. To finish i shared a chocolate bomb which on hind sight i shouldn't have shared! The atmosphere was great and the service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely be back!!!!

Four of us "foodies" ate in Hardwood on a Friday night a few weeks ago. We'd had their brunch, and were looking forward to a great evening meal. The food was disappointing in every way. We all ordered different things and nobody enjoyed it. Bouillabaisse fish soup normally does contain saffron, but this one was so overladen with it, it smelt "off". People at the next table also ordered Bouillabaisse, and the smell wafting around the restaurant was really revolting. And we all quite like saffron when eaten sparingly. The steak was tough as a boot, so either cooked poorly or a very cheap cut. In fact, although some items on the menu read quite exciting, on second perusal, it's more like somebody trying to be "innovative" and experimenting by throwing things together, not understanding what flavours blend well with what. The wine list is equally unexciting. I would never return to Hardwood Restaurant. The chef has no concept of fine food and it's all missing "the love"!

The best thing about this restaurant is that it catches the sun outside. The food on the other side is very hit & miss, the service is fine if you're not in a hurry although there was one waitress that's quite rude. She runs off before you're even finished talking. The brunch menu is good but a little over priced.

A fantastic restaurant and one of Cork's finest. Went there a while back for a family celebration and the staff were so friendly but professional too. There's a great atmosphere with jazz music playing and it's in a lovely location. The food is exquisite and there's a fantastic even attention to detail in there. The wine was beautiful and was from some small place in Spain. Then the food is just beautiful and so different too it's refreshing. I would highly recommend anyone to go here.
