I ate in this restaurant with friends last night. As it was a Saturday night I expected the restaurant to be pretty full. On reaching the door, we saw only about four people in there. Was disappointed at that, but decided to give it a try. Was glad we did, as the food was very good and we all enjoyed our meals. Only problem was that I ordered a Gin and tonic and it came already mixed in the glass. Was not too happy with that, but to be fair to the waiter he said he would give me something else as they only had large bottles of tonic and thats the way they served it.Decided to stay with the drink, as that is what I wanted.

very central location in Cork city, staff very helpful, we rang in for reservation but forgot to mention our names, so when we came in, the staff didnt have any record of reservation. Anyway, we got table within 5 minutes, very quick and efficient service, as starter we had potato and leek soup - delicious, main course was chicken with mushroom and white wine sauce and rosemary potatoes,and strawberry cheesecake as dessert. All delicious and didnt have to wait for anything, staff very attentive and extremely friendly. Best place to eat in Cork!!

Went here saturday night, had the fantastic value early bird meal. Staff are so nice and attentive. The early bird was gorgeous, I had mushroom soup, then the chicken and then strawberry cheesecake. All portions were nice and big. My other half had the stuffed mushroom which he said was lovely, the sirloin steak which was huge and came with plenty of mash. At €20 for 3 courses and tea/coffee its excellent value and the food is great! When we're back in Cork we will be going again!

There was a large group of seven of us, resulting in a big mixture of meals. They were very willing to change or add to the meals. There was a relaxed feel to the place. The food was lovely, generous and very good value- who would say no to a three course meal for 21euro!! Would definately go back again!

A hidden gem in Cork city. We went here pretty late on a Sunday night - got in at 9 but the staff, food and value was great. The early bird finishes at 7pm but they said we could still order from it. I ordered the warm chicken salad (which was like a main, lots of chicken and potatoes and very tasty) and the sirloin steak. They told me they were out of sirloin and would I mind having a large fillet steak at no extra cost - that brought a smile to my face, it's not something you hear too often. The steak was nice, maybe a bit too well seasoned but tasty. I had the chocolate fudge cake to finish - glorious. All this for €21, great value. The girlfriend had the chicken wings to start - not your usual wings, these were the full wing and leg together in a hot sauce but again, very tasty. She had the chicken and pasta main - flatteden chicken breast with melted cheese all over - a fine feed. Service was good, both the waiter and waitress were very friendly. The meals came a bit too quickly but that was our own fault for going in late on a Sunday - they have homes to go to too.

I had never been to Gambinis but I will absolutely go back. We went on a random weeknight so it wasnt busy at all so there wasnt much of an atmosphere but that wont stop me next time! I had a chicken and rice dish which was amazing, I would heve liked a bit more sauce though. We all enjoyed our meal though and it was great value for money.

Got a present of a voucher for here and decided to give it a shot since I was never there and have heard mixed reviews from people. Well myself and my girlfriend went in one evening and it was very busy so we were put upstairs into the corner and next to a huge table of people, I didn't mind this because I wasn't really paying for it. I asked the waitress if I could get spaghetti but was told they were out of it (Italian restaurant without spaghetti hmm). So i decided to go for the chicken. 5 minutes later I was told the chef could sort me out so I was thrilled. I should of stayed with the chicken it tasted like those microwavable packets that u mix together yourself and was so bland. I didn't find the experience anyway comfortable and wouldn't find myself back here for a long time.

went in on spec for a meal on Sunday. although it was busy we were still seated in a nice corner seat. we ordered the Pollo Parmesan and the Polla Romano. i was glad to see that the prices had been reduced to €14.95. the Service was very fast but they forgot to bring us water or glasses! overall the food was lovely, and the staff very pleasant as always.

Had lunch here with my friend. Service was very good and the waitresses were very pleasant. I ordered the warm chicken salad for starter. NOT nice! It was bascially a few shreds of chicken and slices of potato on lettuce but instead of dressing it was served with a thick, piping hot pasta sauce poured over!!! NOT a salad. The Pollo Parmesana I had for mains had the exact same tasting sauce on the pasta as I had on my 'salad' but with extra chilli, which I found searingly hot. Sorry, but I would not be in a rush back!!

Went in with a couple of friends for an early bird. The selection was ok even though there was no pizza on the early bird menu...My friend had the warm chicken salad from the menu and it was very unusual as it came in a tomato sauce which was overpowering. Too much sauce all together. Then the steak from the menu was good and a good size. We also had a portion of chicken wings which was a bit on the small side and then pizza, which was ok. Overall good value for money but what we had was nothing spectacular.

I dined here with my boyfriend on a quiet Wednesday night, the hotel recommended this restaurant so we had high expectations. We chose the early bird menu which is good value at 2courses for 19.95. We both had the warm chicken salad to start which was very disappointing and would definitely not recommend. It was basically hot chicken in a tomato sauce served over cold lettuce with potatoes! Very strange combination and one that did definitely not work! The steaks were cooked perfectly, just as we had requested. I am not a fan of rosemary and it was sprinkled all over the sirloin which was quite annoying! Overall this place is fine but nothing too special, I wouldn't be running back.

Gambieni's, what can I say.. Top notch, excellence, exceptional? Most definate that this is one of the best restaurants in Cork, well one of the best Italian restaurants in Cork City. The food is always top quality, staff are ALWAYS helpful and very friendly, even the owner when he works in the restaurant during the day is always obliging. The atmosphere is also very good in here, restaurant is nearly always busy and the decor of the entire restaurant is modern and vibrant. They have their christmas decorations up already (27/November/2009) which adds that extra spark to the atmosphere. All in all my review of here is very positive and I would highly recommend. - Patrick.

Staff are very helfpful and I love that you can see the chefs cooking your food if you happen to get a downstairs seat. However, i found the food to be nothing special.We had the chicken wings to start which were not very hot and a bit bland.I then had the cajun chicken which was fine but nothing to rave about. This place is grand for a quick bite but nothing special.

i love GAMBIENIS, i have eaten here many time, i love getting a window seat, i think that their food is very tasty, ample portion sizes and excellent wait staff, couldnt fault it and their lunchtime menus are great value

I am amazed about the previous coments below. I go to Gambieni's every week. The food is brilliant, very tasty. And very good value also, (Early Bird Menu only 20 Euro for 3 course meal). The staff are always very welcoming and warm, and always do their best for you, no matter how busy it is. Service is at a nice relaxed pace, and i always thoroughly enjoy my meal. I would reccomend this restaurant to anyone and everyone.

I absolutely love this place and cannot understand the previous reviews, the staff are always really helpful and friendly whenever I have been there. I was here for dinner with 2 of the girls last weekend and we all thouroughly enjoyed the night. Ive often been in for lunch on the weekend when doing a bit a shopping and have loved it every time.

Avoid this place. Went there for a family meal a couple of weeks back and was very disappointed. The food is your typical Italian fare, pizza, pasta, meat dishes, chicken dishes etc but its done very badly and vastly overpriced for what you get. Six of us had starters and each one was so bland and tasteless. Then for the mains we had a mix of pasta and pizzas - the pizzas were only average and the pasta dishes were even worse. Three of us got pasta dishes - a canelloni dish, a lasagne, and some other pasta dish and were some of the worst pasta dishes I have had in a long time. Worst of all they were all very obviously made with the same bland sauce, no difference in taste between any of them.The pasta dishes cost between 15-20 euor which is expensive for a place that would like to pass for a cheap and cheerful Italian, but cheap and cheerful Gambienis is certainly not. One to avoid.

I always liked the restaurant and always recommended it..that is until now. Am telling my friends & colleagues stay well away. Waiting staff were overwhelmed (even though it wasn't busy there) constantly got our order wrong. My friend asked for his steak to be cooked medium rare, it came out cremated, waited 15 mins for the wine only to be told it was American Rose as opposed to French that was ordered. To my utmost horror, it transpired they hadn't it in stock,a waiter ran across the road to Tesco & bought the bottle for €5.49 & tried to sell it off for €22.When I queried it, I got no satisfaction, so much for the customer is always right? Italian restaurant..! More like cowboys in the Wild West, never again!!!

On the plus side, the food is delicious & the portions are generally sized. On the down-side however, some of the tables are much too close together & it feels like you're dining with the couple next to you.

Went here last night with my friend, and I thought it was lovely! prices were very reasonable, we ordered from the lunch menu, garlic bread, 2 main courses and 2 desserts was €34, portions massive, especially the pasta, service great, friendly. this was my first time here so was well pleased, the only complaint tables too close together, not much privacy! Would go here again.

Was quite disappointed when I went there last Wednesday night. The food was just completely over spiced. The lasagne was just packed with bay leaves and tomatoe puree and were it not for the fact that the starter was awful, I wouldn't have eaten it. The price of the early bird was reasonable but to be honest it was appropriate for the food offered.

Overall a nice restaurant. Great sauces come with a lot of dishes in particular my favourite Pollo ala Bruschetta. Good selection of food available. Staff constantly changing as far as I can see and I tend to frequent the place once or twice a month. Downside the owner seems to be constantly "having words" with the staff in full view and hearing of the customers and I have seen various aspects of restaurant business such as a job interview and discussions with a deliveryman taking place while I'm having lunch.

This is my favorite restaurant in Cork by far. I go here about once a month, I love it. The steak is fantastic and so is the salmon pasta. I absolutely love going here, the service is always good and there's a great cosy atmosphere and as I said, the food is great. Definitely go there if you can.

Lovely restaurant, recently redecorated. Food is lovely and reasonably priced. Desserts....lovely! The lunch menu is lovely, try the hot chicken sandwich! Friendly staff and fast service.
