I had eaten here once before on a trip to Cork and it was packed to the rafters. I returned here last week and the place was empty, but I did expect this seeing as we arrived a little before 10pm. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was the exact same quality and the service was top notch. We got a lovely window seat and were never hassled. The only thing that would throw me was the cost. It was very expensive for 2 starters, 2 mains and 4 beers!

Paid a return visit, having been here whilst on a visit to Cork at the same time last year. The restaurant was busy, and the meal was up to the same standard as on the previous occasion. We shared a tasty and plentiful platter for two for starters, and my main meal was delicious and satisfying. Surroundings are relaxing and it's not a cheap place to eat, but the food and service are good.

Had a very enjoyable evening here. The meal was delicious and service was very good. Two negative points though. On each table there’s a set of three little stainless steel dipping dishes. Two of the three dishes on our table were minus the handle in the lid. This really should be attended to as it doesn’t look good because there is a hole in the lid where the handle had been attached and it’s quite obvious that the handle has been broken off. The second thing relates to paying the bill. When the waiter came to the table, I was asked out loud if a gratuity was to be added to the VISA card. This was within earshot of other diners and was not a nice thing to do. I told the waiter I wouldn’t be doing so and he didn’t seem too pleased about it. If a tip is warranted, I will leave one on the table, but I never put a tip on my credit card. A situation like this could cause serious embarrassment to some diners, and possibly even make them feel obliged to put a tip on their card. It’s a practice that has crept into restaurants here in the past few years and I do not like it.

Went for dinner with 4 people on a Saturday night. We were quite early, 7pm, and the place was not very busy. I had been here before and I have never seen it really busy or packed. As before we were seated on the sofas near the bar to make our choices from the menu. This was not an easy task. We ended up going for a special offer they had - a value menu for 2 (so we ordered this twice), including starter, main, dessert, coffee/tea and beer/wine. At €50 for two people this was very good value. We had two vegetarian starters (only 1 option here, a bit disappointing) and two vegetarian mains (also only 1 option but staff very obligingly made another, different, vegetarian main for us). The other menu was a mix of chicken and lamb dishes. Everyone in the party was very happy with their food choices, every dish was very tasty. Service was quite unobtrusive but sufficient. One starter was delivered incorrectly, there was no real apology but the change was made immediately and the correct starter was brought out of the kitchen within minutes. The live music (guitar) was nice and not in your face (or ears, as the case may be). Overall a very enjoyable evening and very good value.

Dining here on a recent Friday night was a fantastic experience. I really loved the atmosphere. There is a seating area on arrival with some nibbles and comfy couches where you look at the menu and place your order. The place is well lit and cosy. Our table was overlooking the river and was fantastic. There was a guy playing the guitar and singing and he was excellent. Beautiful music but not overpowering - we were still able to have a good chat. The staff were very polite and friendly. The food was nice. Not the best Indian food I've ever had, but it was good. We paid approx €40 for 2 mains, 1 rice and 1 naan bread. Not the cheapest, but it was a lovely night out and felt like good value.

On reading other reviews were a bit apprehensive in going but looked the best Indian around. We arrived without a booking but were seated after 10 mins. Was pleasantly surprised on arrival, picture doesn’t do it justice, the service was clinical, atmosphere was good a guy playing guitar nice background music. But most important the food was amazing great flavours and was served quickly. Got chicken chilli massalla (not for girls) HOT....

Visited the Eastern Tandoori for a pre-Opera House dinner given it's convenient location. Although the restaurant itself is a little dated, in the past i have always found this to be a fairly safe bet. Unfortunately this was not my experience on this occassion. The food was quite frankly inedible. I ate with 4 other people and all 5 of us had various chicken main courses. The chicken on each of our plates wasn’t great. We brought this to the waiter's attention to told that 'oh yes lots of people have complained about the chicken all week'. He said nothing more, just stared at us. My friend then went on to say 'should we just not eat it' and he just smiled, said nothing and walked off. No apology, nothing. Needless to say we ate some of the sauce, no chicken and decided it would be best to skip deserts etc for fear of what would be served. I would certainly never go back here as the food and service were attrocious. I was so hungry leaving that i had to stock up on treats in the Opera House to prevent my stomach from grumbling all through the show. My advice, avoid if you don't want to get bad chicken and all that goes with it :-(

Went here with my husband for an early dinner after some shopping. We got the €50 (3course meal for two) set menu. There is a good choice for starters and mains with tea/coffee and icecream to finish, included in the €50 is a bottle of wine - making this the best value meal I've had in a long time. Other options include 4 beers or 2 beers + 2 glasses of wine. They have a full bar also so great for parties etc.

Took my nephew for his first Indian outing on fri evening around 6pm - the restaurant was quiet.. We were welcomed and given an extensive menu to choose from with ample time. We decided to go for the set menu @ €28 odd each. We got a lovely table over looking the river and night traffic. Complimentary popodum served with various sauce/spices. Our mixed starter was plentiful, all chicken dishes mouth watering and spicey. I wasn't so keen on the lamb pattie but himself loved it. Then we were given our plates with rice, followed by Chicken dish, lamb dish and vegetable curry. We both loved the chicken 10/10.. Lamb 7/10 unfortunately we didn't like the curry..we finished off with kuli (indian icecream) which was delightful and tea. Overall lovely, enjoyable - we would recommend.

My friend recommend it. When we arrived, we have to wait for the rest of the group to show up, which around 10mins later. The staff never did smile to us & I actually saw one the staff rolled his eyes when he saw us still in waiting lounge after 5mins. We settled down in a table of 6, and we have to wait around 30mins for them to take our orders. The food is okay, nothing specials. I actually thought that the curry they served lacked something, that we could not figured it out. But the atmosphere is quiet & great for couples. In few words, I don't think I would recommend it to others, unless they really an Indian restaurant fan. Wouldn't even dream to go back there again.

As a regular visitor of their sister restaurant "Radhuni" of East Douglas Village, we decided to try here today after over an hour of walking trying to find somewhere to eat in the mad Christmas rush of people shopping. Unlike another review I had read below, the scent while we were walking the stairs to the restaurant was pretty nice, a warm spice scent is what I could describe it as, after all we were entering an Indian restaurant! On initial arrival staff were extremley friendly, and sat us in their waiting area as they took our order, which was a first for me doing this (Even thought the restaurant was rather quiet) which to be honest was a nice addon to the experience. A member of staff who we know from the sister restaurant was also working in the Eastern Tandoori on this occasion and came over and spoke with us, as with all staff here; extremely friendly. Early bird menu here is pretty good, Starter - Main and Dessert (Tea/Coffee) for only €15, probably the most reasonable out of most of the restaurants in Cork City. My partner ordered off the Á la carte menu which was pretty steep for a chicken balti (€13.50). Food is very good, very similiar again to the sister restaurant, which I found great as it was the style of Indian food that I am used to eating. All in all, great food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere overlooking the River Lee and the Opera House / Emmet Place. - Patrick

Great spot, I was very happy with my evening meal here. For starters I had onion bajees, followed by a chana bhuna with garlic naan. All dishes were presented well, with excellent service. The house red was not great, but overall I was happy and full when I left.

Have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years but lately standards have slipped. Decided to try it again last week. Some staff were very unfriendly and rude. 50 mins passed before our order was taken. 2 hours before main course arrived. Food is still quite good but does not compensate for the terrible service. Won't be back. Pity as it was a really good restaurant, but previous reputation is not enough these days.

This place is on its last legs and has no hope unless it changes dramatically. The bad experience begins with the smelly stairwell. Nothing has changed here for many years. The food is less than average and unexciting. Even the poppadums and chutneys are the same for the last 15 years. Everything about this needs an upgrade. Cork is crying out for a high quality indian restaurant and this one is far off the mark.

Myself and my boyfriend went here for dinner after work and decided to go with the early bird menu. The restaurnat was fairly quiet when we arrived, but filled up later in the evening with more people obviously taking advantage of the excellent value early bird. Its an fab location, right in front of the opera house and would be perfect for a meal before a show on the weekend. I had never been before, although I had heard plenty of reviews from my friends as being the best Indian in Cork. I look forward to my next visit and with the prices of the early bird menu, we can afford to go here every week! Take that recession! Yum!

Had the early bird here. Very disappointing. Salad was old and main portions were half size but came with portion of manky mushrooms to make it look bigger. Will never have early bird there again.

Probably it is the worst Indian resturant I been to in Ireland. Staff was extremely rude. Food is overpriced. Resturant is not child friendly as they did not have a child seat or a high chair. Service was slow as well. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Always enjoyed the atmosphere in the Eastern Tandoori - it feels like you're stepping into a completely different world! We had a consistantly good experence there over the past 2 years, but recently found it not as good as it was but maybe it's the recession hitting!

I've have been to the Eastern Tandoori several times and thought it was very good all over. However the last time I was there to avail of the Early Bird with a friend and the waiter was very rude I thought. Starters and the main course were served together and the waiter several times came down and stared at us more or less to leave despite the fact there were very few people in the restaurant at all. While I was a very big fan before I have not returned since as regardless of what you are in to get service should be consistent.

Undoubtedly one of the finest, if not the finest Indian restaurant in Cork. I've been here a few times over the last few years and have always been impressed. The restaurant itself is beautifully and tastefully decorated, spacious and very pleasant to eat in. The food is wonderful and for those unfamiliar with Indian cusine, the waiters are more than happy to explain each course to you in detail. Service is prompt and friendly, sometimes to the point of being a little overbearing to be honest. All in all an excellent restaurant and one I'll definitely continue to visit.

Our favourite Indian restaurant. Love the atmosphere - the authentic decor and clothing for the waiters adds to its charm. The food is excellent and the menu is great especially for those who aren't familiar with Indian. If you do go, you must try the Tandori Makhan Chicken from the Chef's Speciality section. They also have a sister restaurant in Douglas - Radhuni (near Shell & cinema) - the decor is more modern but the food is still great. They also do a takeaway - a bit pricey - think yoy get ~20% discount but they also give a free tiger beer or wine depending on your total spend.

Nice atmosphere and great service, always a chance of meeting a celeb who may be appearing in the Opera House which is just across the road.
