The staff were very welcoming when we arrived, without a reservation. The food was heavy and low on taste. It felt like everything was made from different combinations of four large batches of stuff and felt that we could have done better at home. The drink selection was good and only good value if you were drinking sangria. The toilets were standard, but not great. Overall I felt it was a little over priced but I would go back again if only for the fun atmosphere.

First time in Cork with my partner and passing Cafe Mexicana, their early bird caught our eye, great value 3 course meal with a glass of Sangria for 21E. Love the ambiance of this place, very cosy. Myself and partner were seated by the window, waiter provided, lunch, early bird and a la carte menu. When ready to take our order we read from the early bird menu but there was a confusion, the waitress stated that they don’t serve the early bird menu and preferred to serve the lunch. Her reaction was very unwelcoming. Food was ok, not great.

6 of us had a great meal here last week. We got starters varying from potato skins to nachos, very good. Mains of enchiladas (beef delicious) beef salad, burritos and fajitas all very well received very tasty! The food is mildy spiced as stated on the menu, if you want it hotter you may ask. They also provide you with a jalepeno salsa if you wish to heat it up yourself. A great meal was had, we did have a little of a frosty reception however from a certain waitress, but would definitely return. 19 for fajitas seems a little steep (i didnt have these), so try for the ealry bird if you can.

Hi, While out xmas shopping in the freezing cold at the weekend, we were looking for something to heat us up as well as fill the gap. I had been here before and loved it so decided to come back. O and was I happy, food was delicious and the atmosphere is fabulous too, would definitely recommend this place for lunch, not sure about dinner as I have never been before.

I adore mexican food, but this place does NOT do it any justice. It's overpriced and bland.I'm just glad that the sangria was nice, otherwise I would have been utterly miserable. The place is not spacious and you're so close to the other patron that it's almost hard to move. The waiter was rude and slow.Don't go there.

I love mexican food and always get the fajitas when I go to Cafe Mexicana. Service can sometimes be a bit off but other than that there are no complaints whatsoever as I really enjoy the food.

I really enjoyed my second visit to this restaurant. We were given a very warm welcome upon entry and seated immediately. Throughout our meal the service was excellent. The food was presented very well and tasted as good as it looked. The atmosphere was casual and low key. It is a small restaurant but the tables are positioned well so other diners do not factor in the evening.I think I will be paying Cafe Mexicana another visit the next time I am back in Cork.

Visted this restaurant for the second time recently and was not disappointed. It is quite small so i would advise booking ahead. I thought at first that €19 for Fajitas was quite expensive but to be honest it was well worth it....delicious food and nice friendly staff made our meal a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend this Mexican marvel and will eat here again. PS: Try the nachos with Chicken for a starter.....YUM!!!!

I had a very enjoyable meal here with some friends. The value menu of 3 courses plus a glass of delicious sangria for €20 is really good and offers plenty of choice. The staff are really friendly and there's a nice atmosphere in a cosy setting. Definitely worth a visit.

My paretner and I recently visited Cafe Mexicana and ate from their early bird menu. Having eaten there before we were very disappointed this time. For starters the nachos were simply tortilla chips with melted cheese. The Friojles con Queso were good. For our mains we had enchiladas and burritos. Both of us felt that our food was not evenly heated and had quite possibly been reheated in the microwave. Even the refried beans seemed microwaved as they were hard on the outside. Despite friendly service, a nice atmosphere and tasty sangria, we left disappointed and feeling that there was much better value to be had around Cork.

I have visited Cafe Mexicana numerous amounts of times and have become quite the regular!would definitely reccomend this restaurant if you are looking for an affordable mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is great, though at times can be a tight fit to fit into tables if the restaurant is busy but other then that I can find no faults with the place and will be returning soon.

I went to eat here today with my boyfriend for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised at the lunch menu offerings. It was the first time I've been to eat at cafe mexicana and found the food to be very yummy. I had a simple soup broth - chicken and spinach I think, and he had a lunch main course of chicken tortilla pie with rice, refried beans, and some salad on his plate. It wasnt too pricy, 4euro for my soup and 9 for his main. There were only two other tables with people when we were there, but I imagine given the festive decor the place could easily be hoppin' on a packed night

Cafe Mexicana is by far my favourite restaurant in Cork. I've been going here with years and yet to have a bad experience. The decor is great and traditional Mexican music is always playing in the background creating a great atmosphere. This place is busy every night of the week. The food is delicious. I always start with the potato skins which come with a rich cheese sauce. On this visit, I had the Chicken Fajitas which were superb. They come with refried beans and tortilla chips and they just melt in the mouth. The pecan pie is a great dessert and always tastes great. Most of the staff have been here since I've started going here and really seem to enjoy their work and provide great service. If you haven't already been here, try it!!!!!!

I ate here with a group of 8 friends. The atmosphere was cheery, the food was good and the portions were large. Our waitress on the other hand was very rude which took from the meal overall. I feel it is slightly overpriced for what you get considering the deals elsewhere at the moment but had the service been better it would have made a huge difference.

As far as I know this i the only mexican restaurant in Cork and it is indeed a quite nice one. I went here before and I have to say it is quite cramped in there, alot of tables but not too much space but the food is really nice. I shared a main course for 2 with my partner. It was a selection of enchiladas, nachos, tachos etc. very nice and good if you wanna try out everything... Prices are ok, not cheap but not overpriced either. Will definitly return! :)

This is such a fun place to go. We never make a booking cause its the type of place we go when we're just finished work and we want to have some food and drinks- great sangria!! The food is alright. Sometimes its good, sometimes it could be better but i keep on returning so i know what i'm getting! The service is good. We leave a tip because the waiters are lovely- they could be more alert! The value is ok- maybe they should put down some of the prices, especially for the microwaved stuff. I came to this place 4.5 years ago on my first date with my husband and I have returned ever since. Im not sure I'd change anything about the atmosphere but the other points could improve!

Having eaten here before and enjoyed it we decided to pop in here one friday afternoon for a quick bite to eat. Atmosphere-wise, it's a lovely little restaurant in a great location but the staff do let it down. They are neither warm or welcoming, and give the impression that if they could frisbee your food to you from the kitchen they would. The foods itself is tasty but expensive for what it is, which in our case was a burrito and a chimichanga. I don't really understand the huge amount of rice they put on the side of your meal, perhaps it is to bulk up the plate to make you think you are getting your money's worth? All in all, the place the potential to be great and a favourite but I think they need to get a manager in who will streamline the service and presentation.

I was on vacation in Cork and had a great time. My friend wanted to go "Café Mexicana" with me, as she used to go there a lot and recommended the place to me, but we know now that we won't go back there again. My friend, her daughter and I went for dinner, but unfortunately, the waitress was not nice at all, slamming our food on the table, rolling her eyes all the times and just being annoyed with my friend's baby, who was with us. She even complained to the cook about the baby, though we could hear everything she said and we were the only guests at that time (well, two other guests arrived a bit later). I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, as I didn't find it very family-friendly. The food was good, though, but I would really suggest to look for a different waitress to make sure you don't lose your guests.

This has always been a favorite restaurant of ours. The food, ambience and staff are always excellent until now- staffwise. The waitress who greeted us at the door was very unfriendly and rude to us. She even had the gall to complain to the cook within our earshot about my child being noisy. Its not as if we were disrupting anything because the place was only catering to 4 customers, including us, at that time. I completely lost my appetite and was itching to get out of the restaurant. Her attitude has put me off from going back to this restaurant again.

Best microwaved food in cork. Or so the ignorant member of staff who introduced themselves as the management said.' Been doing it for years' to quote them. So if you wanna spend a fortune on food that took 3 mins with the press of a button this is the place to go

I really dont get this place. Ive been for both dinner and lunch and while the food is ok its certainly not the best Ive tasted, this is not reflected in the prices or the lack of specials on offer. Also the decor would not sooth a hang over, its a bit tacky. However, I will continue to go back as they have the best dessert ever, a pancake with Ice cream and chocolate sauce....try it!!

Really enjoyed myself here. Had the seafood enchilada, really fresh and well packed with prawns and mussels. Sangria was really good and strong. Nachos were good, a bit on the dry side, cheese not over melted. Look forward to coming back when back in Cork city. Good portions for all mains.

Great little place. A terrific break from the usual city spots. I'm not a connoisseur of Mexican cusine so have no real basis for comparison, but I thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. Portion sizes were good, the food tasted good (and what I can only assumed to be mexican-like)...the enchilada's and chimichanga's being particularily tasty. All that said, I did think it was a little over priced. Definately worth trying though.

Really love this place. Have been here 5-6 times now. Food is gorgeous, especuially the steak & the pepper sauce is the nicest I have EVER tasted. Love it. The staff are nice 7 friendly & I love to get a table upstairs. They have always given us a table upstairs even though they might have it closed off. Will be going back here a lot. Brought my mum here too & she wants to go back there for a meal when we go xmas shopping in December.

I really wish they did take away! I went here for the first time last Sunday evening, having been meaning to go for ages. I lived in Texas and ate Mexican food a lot so I wasn't really expecting much from a Mexican restaurant in Cork but it was absolutely lovely, very small and quant - a different kind of relaxed atmosphere to the normal busy cafes and I had Chimichangas, I was going to order chicken but the waiter recommended beef and he was dead right, it was beautiful!

My theory about this place is that the kitchen (at least at lunchtime) is a bit disorganized. Those bits of the meal that involved prior preparation were good - punchy sauces, a nicely flavoured guacamole, and good buttery refried beans. The sauce accompanying the prawns was especially good. But the service was a bit of a mess: The tortillas had been kept warm too long and were stuck together, the presentation was a bit all over the place, and it seemed that the waitress had to go out to the shops to get a lime to put in the beer. The result was a meal that was enjoyable, but also kind of irritating.

Visited this restaurant not too long ago with a few friends. Although I'm not quite into Mexican food myself, i had a very enjoyable evening. I myself went for the Gringo wings for a starter, the steak for main course which was cooked perfectly (and the pepper sauce was delishous), and Grandmas cake for dessert, though by this time i was quite full. My two friends both went for mexican options, chicken fajitas, and enchiladas, which were enjoyed by both. Found the restaurant itself a bit cramped and crowded, but the staff were very friendly and helpful, and we were very well looked after. Overall a very enjoyable meal.

Visited here recently with my wife. We won't be back. Portions small, quality poor and way-overpriced. The food is bland and sloopy. I had the buritto and my wife had the flautos. Both came with salad and rice both of which were flavourless. To charge as much as they do for this is wrong. Atmosphere and interior are good and service was quite good. Overall don't bother.

Came for a midweek lunch with my husband and daughters (one in a buggy). Not very buggy friendly. Ordered the nachos with chicken, a tostada and 2 bowls of the tomato soup. The nachos were only ok. The tostada would have been good except the beans were straight from the fridge, would have been nicer warm. The soup was good, my daughter loved it. Overall it was ok, but I feel with just a little more effort it could have been really good. Yhe coffee was excellent.

The success of your visit is totally dependent on which chef is on that night - your meal can vary greatly. I love their nachos - I've yet to sample anything similar anywhere else. The menu is quite vast but TBH most of the food is quite bland. It's quite a small and intimate venue - def. not a place for a group - too small. The salad served with the main courses can look quite limp (as though it's been prepared in advance) and the rice is always bland.

Not a place to go on a girls' nite - too small altogether so it makes you feel uncomfortable. Food was only fair

This is a good restaurant if you are in the mood for a bottle of Corona with some good Mexican food...room in the restaurant is limited so it can feel quite small in there while you are eating but for value for money and good Mexican food this is good place to try...

I've eaten here several times, and I always come away with a feeling of not full satisfaction. The menu looks lovely, there's an interesting choice of food and some nice wines, but they serve soft drinks from 2 litre bottles (so if you get the last glass of the bottle then you're basically drinking sugar and water). Why do restaurants do this cheapie trick? When the food here is good it's very very good, but when it's bad it's either over-microwaved or burned. The atmosphere is quite nice though, and a window seat is lovely in the evening time.

Cafe Mexicana is a great restuarant, great food and lovely place. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Cork. Their nachos with cheese are to die for!

One of my favourite places to eat in Cork, for both lunch and dinner. Food is always to die for, & portions are generous. Have yet to find somewhere that equals their dynamite nachos or their fajita's. Well worth a visit.

I found Cafe Mexicana alot of fun for a date and found the food different but not too different. I did find the tables a bit cramped but the atmosphere made up for that. My advice is to try this out during a week night, when the resturant is the quietest. Best place for a one on one, I wouldn't advise big groups but the food was delightful.

Have eaten here many times. Huge portions of fantastic food. Never had any issue with service. Always some good Mexican music playing in the background to add to the atmosphere.

Love, love, love this place. I eat there every time I'm in Cork, be it with the Missus or with friends. Can be a bit difficult to get a table on a Saturday (if you haven't booked, that is) but it's worth the wait. If the world isn't wonderful after a gigantic enchilada and a pitcher of margaritas, there's something very wrong.
