visited here for morning coffee and cake. Expensive but cake was delicious and portion generous. Coffee good too.Place was packed so Avoca continue to thrive in recession- well done.Got service with a smile too....

We dropped down to Kilmacanogue for the bank holiday monday at 12 noon thinking it might be reasonably quiet. Wrong! it was thronged with visitors most of whom, like ourselves were there for lunch. The choice is a bit overwhelming but we settled for a slice of nut loaf with three salads out of a choice of about seven. The plate was groaning with the amount of food on it. Total for two of the same was just under €25. Filtered water with lemon and ice is gratis. I went back for one of their legendary desserts, a pavlova at €5.40, that we shared - it was more than two standard desserts in size and absolutely gorgeous. Great value and great food. Try to go early for lunch or you may face a wait for a seat.

Had lunch here with a friend and besides the never ending queue, which is a good sign, it was lovely. My pate which was served with way too much salad was delicious although the amount of waste food that must be produced made me feel a little guilty. The lemon tart to follow was a dream, tangy with a lovely bite served with a dollop of cream on the side and washed down with an average cappuccino. The service was courteous and although busy efficient.Will be back
