Have eaten in the Blackwater Lodge on a few occasions and have always enjoyed the freshly home cooked meals, atmosphere is warm and friendly. Being a steak eater have always found the meat to be of great quality and cooked perfectly to taste. Would recommend to anyone. I would find it on the expensive side for certain items otherwise the specials would be great value.

Down in Kilmoukerage for a few days and have tried a few places for dinner, popped into blackwater hotel for a lunch with baby and teen. Bar man was so nice and accomadating getting us a high chair, extra sauces very friendly so good start. We had burger which was yummy with relish and bacon, very fresh, potatoe skins with cheese and bacon, 3 big tasty fresh skins with sour cream, large side salads with them which consisted of 3 different lettuces, tomatoe, red onion, cucumber, a huge basket of chips, my friend had toastie which was delicious. Tea and two soft drinks all for 27euro, great value and delicious food, were headin back down this weekend and will be back.

I recently spent a few days away from Dublin near the Blackwater area and myself and hubby ate twice in this place. I had the steak on both occasions and it was great and seasoned to perfection. Hubby had chicken and bacon the first time and the fish on second visit. We did not have desserts as both too full as portions are very generous. We shared the garlic mushroom starter and they were really good. My only gripe is it claims on the menu that the chips are homemade but I ordered them on first visit there with my steak and they were obviously the frozen variety. The next time we were in I asked our server were the chips homemade and he admitted they were not so I had potatoes instead. Did not bother making a fuss as the staff are so nice and it's a lovely laid back place to eat and have a couple of drinks in. Why lie on the menu though about the chips? Do they really think that people can't tell the difference between fresh and frozen? A minor point I know but annoying all the same!
