Stopped in here on the way home and decided to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant. Beautiful views of the lake. Salmon and the beef burger were ordered. Both were very tasty. The burger came in a brown bap which was so fresh that it crumbled all over the place! It was served on a small wooden board, so there wasn’t much room to manoeuvre! The burger was delicious. My companion though the salmon was excellent. There didn’t appear to be a whole lot of it, but what there was tasted good. It was a little pricey – 18.50 for the burger. The surroundings are beautiful though.

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Having been here before, we decided it would be a lovely setting for dinner for this special occasion and we weren't disappointed. I had a risotto starter while he ate pate. Both were fantastic and we really enjoyed them. The lure of steak was too much to resist so it's what we both had, accompanied by a lovely selection of veg and potatoes. A lovely bottle of red complemented everything really well and a nice creme brulee dessert was sublime. The really lovely part is being able to retire to the cosy bar afterwards for brandy and baileys beside the fire. A lovely experience and I look forward to our next visit - we've already given vouchers to two other couples!

Dined here found the food to be tasty and well presented. Staff were excellent.
With regards to consistency between courses found the fish starter excellent, mains chicken was disappointing, sides more than made up for the poor chicken.
Cheese board was excellent along with great wines,

I'd say the most beatiful restaurant setting in the whole country, at least that I have been to, on the shores of Lough Ree, timber decking, picture windows, ducks at our feet on the way in waddling around, boats passing in the drawing dusk. Food is good, not exceptional, I had a spiced lamb with pomegranate couscous to start, then 4 large grilled prawns with tomatoes, rocket, chorizo (kind of Mozambique style), nice baby spuds that had been sauteed off in butter after boiling. Herself had mussels in white wine and cream, and then seabass, portion a little small on the fish but nicely cooked. A nice zingy SB (Hunky Dory Marlborough, NZ) and coffees, all in E110. Nice, attentive and pleasant service, and the main dining room was nice (we ate outside). Excellent coffee.
You could spend many happy hours here eating anything at all.

5.0 Wineport Lodge 5.0 star review:
I had heard great things about the Wineport from firends and family and was really interested to go myself. Myself and partner were on way back from Galway and dropped in to make a reservation to stay at lodge and have a meal. We were told that we had to book for two nights. The girl at reception was very crisp and not one bit friendly. My partner said oh we will book another later in the year. To which the receptionist replied ' you have to take the two night deal all year around' we felt forced into something we really didnt want but we booked it. A few days later we canceled as they wanted to charge us 375euro each for two nights accomodation, one dinner and two breakfasts.
We decided to go for Sunday lunch instead with family.
We arrived down on the wettest most miserable day ever. The girl at reception was most unfriendly and snapped at my dad 'do you have a reservation!" we then tried to find the door of the restaurant while she offered no help at all to show us the way. In fact we ended up going out in the room looking for the entrance of the restaurant only to find that it was opposite where she was sitting.
In the restaurant the staff couldnt have been nicer we were welcomed (at last!) and our order was taken.
I found over all that food was good. I had duck confit to start, truly lovely. The main of seabass was quite disappointing and not warm enough and the portion was very small. The dessert of baked alaska was also very good. The Wineport is in the most beautiful setting and food is good but not sure if I'd travel from Dublin to go there again.

5.0 Wineport Lodge 5.0 star review:
A fantastic meal had by our party of 4 on Saturday night in the Wineport Lodge. We were welcomed at the door and our coats taken, we sat at a very comfortable table in an atmospheric and nicely lit room. The music was a little strange, rock and pop, I would have expected something more relaxing. Bread was brought to the table, not a large amount but it was homemade and very nice. An amuse bouche - soup was really lovely and as one of our party was having soup as his starter he was kindly offered a different amuse bouche. All starters were great, really nicely presented and good size portions - salad, soup, ribs and chicken. Main courses were reasonably sized and the combinations of flavours were really well thought out. A side of potatoes was brought for the table also. The menu offered a vegetarian selection and my choice was imaginative and really tasty - Aubergine Snitzel with Haloumi cheese, capers and salad. The others had sea bass, chicken and steak, all were delicious. Desserts were not as spectacular as the rest of the food, these included the chocolate plate and ice cream. Staff were very pleasant, sometimes overly so. All in all it was a great meal, a very relaxing experience and note to all - they provide a complimentary taxi service to partrons in the Athlone area - added value - I'll be dreaming of my next visit!

The location of Wineport is absolutely stunning, it's right on the lake. I found the service to be excellent but more importantly the food was gorgeous. You will need deep pockets to eat here but for an occasion there's nowhere better.

We were on the Shannon for the week and having been in the Wineport Lodge before as a special treat- decided to moor here for an evening instead of Athlone- made a reservation and informed them that we would "be arriving by boat!" The quote of the week! - The weather was fantastic - ate inside the restaurant and had a glass of vino after. For starters - fois gras, brasola salad, mains pork belly and john dory also a nice bottle of rioja. At €133 it was a little expensive for 2 but a big treat! A very nice place for a treat!

3.0 Wineport Lodge 3.0 star review:
Myself and herself travelled to Athlone for a day and a night to get away from the Christmas bustle and based on recomendations and a certain TV show we were expexting a lot from the Wineport Restaurant. Initial service was friendly and efficient, but went downhill thereafter to the point of being ignored, and by the time we got to trying to pay for our meal, we got up from our table and went out to the reception and paid there instead. On a positive note I was delighted to se that all staff were locals which is sadely missing in most hospitality establishments in Ireland be them cheap, expensive, big or small. Restauranteurs/hotelliers please note that foreign visitors to Ireland want to be greeted and served by local colleens and lads who engage them in conversation, these people are Irelands unique selling point. Anyways back to the food in Wineport, starters included tasty aisan syale duck pancakes and my crab linguene which was tasteless, pretymuch crabless and very expensive. The first main of sole goujons, fries and tarter sauce was very average and not very delicate on the palette or on the eye, my pigeon and foie gras was fine but the meat was overcooked and tough. The accompaning bowl of mixed veg and spuds looked like it had been dunked into a trough of veg and indicated a careless service and the absence of a head chef checking plates on the pass.In summary the food was fine but we were really expecting more from the kitchen and the floor staff.

Stayed at Wineport for a birthday treat. Have to say, had high expectations but I was not disappointed. The food is delicious ( athough pricey) and the whole place is just beautiful. Had a crab linguine to start which was delicately flavoured and perfectly sized; then had pigeon breast with foie gras for main course, again delicious. This is definitely a special occasion place but would highly recommend it.
