Oscars Restaurant 3.0 star review: Was there this week. Found the food smothered in sauce which killed all the seasoning if any. Service was fine but think staff might be allowed to be involved to customers. Owner of establishment only seems to talk to those he knows and barely acknowledges those he doesn't.

Won't be going again for a long time.

Oscars Restaurant 5.0 star review: I was given a gift of a voucher for Oscars in Mullingar. We are new to the town and were delighted to be given the chance to try the cuisine in this restaurant.
The staff were very pleasant and efficient.
The food was just delicious and very well cooked. We dined a la carte although the Early bird menu was also presented, and it was pointed out that if we wished to combine orders from both, it would perfectly fine. Himself had sirloin for main, very rare and it arrived cooked to perfection. He was extremely happy as it is difficult to source a place which does this to his satisfaction. I had a sizzling chicken and beef dish which was also divine. The chef used just the perfect amount of chillies to enhance the taste but not allow it to overpower the other flavours. I have to say the food was perfectly cooked, absolutely not overcooked or soggy but with enough bite left in the veg. The sauce that came with the Asparagus starter was ohhhhh heaven and the chef is quite willing to share the recipe if asked!
We felt very at home and were not rushed at all. The proprietor came around and inquired of all guests how their meals were. He also made pleasant conversation with those he knew, and was careful not to longer longer than good manners would dictate. To newcomers he extended a very warm welcome and made it clear that nothing would be any trouble. As a dining experience, it was definitely one of the better ones we have had. We will definitely be returning to Oscars and regularly.

Oscars Restaurant 3.0 star review: Dined here on a Tuesday night and it was quite busy. Have been here before and wasn't impressed but returned as there is very little to choose from in Mullingar. The service was prompt but joyless. I had the caesar salad which was alright and my husband and son had pop corn chicken with satay sauce which was nothing special. For main course I had the burger which was solid, too big and lacked seasoning while my husband had the pork ribs which never saw a bit of seasoning until the were smothered in bbq sauce. You cannot add salt to ribs after the have been boiled and you cannot make up for this lack of seasoning by smoothering them in sauce. It was 3 years since my last visit and it will be another 3+ before I go back. This restaurant only suceeds because there is little competition

Oscars Restaurant 3.0 star review: Good food for good value, although the menu hasn't changed much in years.
Very poor service at times. Always rushed to get you out, to the point of taking your plates/glasses before you're finished.

Oscars Restaurant 4.0 star review: I recently got some takeaway from Oscars with my girlfriend and her family. The food was enjoyed by all. I had a caramelized onion and sweet chili pizza. It was tasty and filling. The others got veg pasta, baby back ribs and stir fried chicken. As always there were a lot of side dishes (salad and chips) included. Will definitely be going back to Oscars again.

Oscars Restaurant 2.5 star review: This is a popular and BUSY restaurant but I really can't see what all the fuss is about.

The food IS good and the service is efficient if slightly robotic and impersonal. I wouldn't take a date here either to be honest - the tables are on top of each other.

Finally the prices are above and beyond what I would consider acceptable for this type of venue - especially in the current climate. This is Mullingar not Temple Bar.

Oscars Restaurant 4.0 star review: My husband and I had our anniversary meal at Oscars. As usual the food is spot on. Have been here many times and could never fault the food. I had crunchy chicken strips in satay sauce, jumbo fried prawns with rice & sweet chilli sauce and mixed ice-creams for dessert. Fabulous. Am getting hungry just thinking about it....... Only complaint is that it is v pricey. With a bottle of wine included, meal for two, up on EUR 100.00
