Stopped in Lismore with the kids for a coffee and muffin/scone. This was our only option if we didn't want to go to a posh restaurant or pub (for such a lovely town, I assumed there would be at least one coffee shop open on a Sunday afternoon). Anyway, ordered two coffees, two orange juices for the kids and 4 desserts (as they didn't have any other cakes/buns). Sat outside as the weather was pleasant and apart from having to remove two full ashtrays from the table, the atmosphere was pleasant. However, I got an awful shock when I went to pay. Now I know we had four desserts (2 choc cakes - no more than 3" square and 2 thin slices of pear tart each with a dollop of cream and a strawberry) but the bill came to a whopping Eur30.60. I was too shocked to express my dissatisfaction at the time and a bit embarrassed to be duped into thinking there was good value to be had in restaurants this summer. Pity as we take this route quite often and I certainly wont be stopping here again. Rip off Ireland is still alive and well despite the recession.

I have to agree with the other reviewers that the surroundings here are beautiful since the hotel was renovated but that is the only part I can agree with. We had a bar lunch here. It was very quiet when we arrived so the bad service cannot be excused by the staff being busy. We were fifteen minutes waiting to order. There were numerous staff walking about & we kept trying to get their attention but we were ignored totally. There was quite a wait for the food once we had ordered and even then my husbands food came almost ten minutes before mine. He had ordered bacon & cabbage, basic enough you would think but the bacon was so salty that it was inedible & the entire meal was cold. I had ordered the homemade burger, again, very basic stuff. The burger was ok. It was a plain meat patty on dry bun, no sauces or salad & none were offered. The chips were totally cold. The menu had said it would be accompained by fried onions which didn't come until I had finished my meal & they were cold & greasy. No apologies were offered. Very poor overall for a lunch which cost almost €30. Won't be back.

This is such a nice, small hotel. Very good value for the money and excelent attentive, and friendly staff. We had a meal there, the above menu was not in evidence but there was a very basic plain menu. But what we had was tasty and nice. Well worth watching if you live near it see how it develops.
