Overall an excellent evening in the Chop house. The menu was quite limited ont eh evening we ate here. We were a group of five and so between us sampled most of the menu! We shared the meat plate to start which was nice and fairly run of the mill. Seasoned nicley with garlic flowers?! I had duck for main, which was slightly over cooked. It was served with seasonal veg and mash which was lovely but maybe could have had a little more imagination. Steak and fish were really good by all accounts, the fish special may have been the best dish. We tried both deserts which were epic! A chocolate pot and rhubarb panna cotta. Both were amazing. To sart we had a glass of rhubarb belini which is the nicest drink I have ever tried! I will try to recreate it! The athmosphere was great, it's very relaxed and has lots of charm. I will be back!

Lovely old Victorian bar, with the restaurant in behind. Kind of lightly distressed country house atmosphere. Food was super, but I won't review in detail because it was a once-off menu. Their breads are very good. Service is excellent here, the training is evident. Generally their menu is meat heavy, but cooked with a light hand. They source from a local butcher, who is top-notch, so their beef in particular is always very good. It is pricy, but worth it. Good selection of bottled beers in the bar, micro-brewery and premiums. Sunday lunch menu looks very good too, will give that a whirl and report in due course. A safe and solid recommendation.

I had the goatscheese starter which was basically a big lump of goatscheese on a plate with a few slices of beetroot. I then had the risotto for main...it was more like a starter and was quite tasteless. It came with a side salad which consisted of a small bowel of lettuce leaves. My mother had the fishpie. The potato was very watery and there wasn't much fish in it. My dad had the monkfish which was nice but again the portion was tiny. Overall very disappointing and totally over-priced. Definitely won't be going back there.
