I stayed in Ardmore this weekend, first time visiting this beautiful village and area. Ate in White Horses Restaurant on Friday night and I was very very impressed with the food. Service started off a little slow, they were very busy which of course is a very good sign. The service thereafter was wonderful and the food was really amazing. I think this is a family run restaurant and they really produce very good food. I had the garlic mussels to start, I am still salivating ! Following this I had the lobster and the size of the portion was exceptionally good, this dish was very well executed. My husband had the prawn dish for main course which he thought was wonderful too. There was no shortage of side dishes, lovely vegetables (which including something called sea asparagus which was gorgeous, I had never had it) and the most amazing potatoes I have ever had, grown locally, cooked in their jackets and wonderfully floury - I would go back for the potatoes alone. So nice was our meal that we returned the following day for lunch - super chowder, great brown bread and a huge open prawn sandwich. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough, not cheap but really great value for money.

The welcome was quite miserable, and without a word of welcome, or a smile. From the outset, if felt like we weren't welcome and a pest. The decor was quite nice and fresh, and they used a local pottery, which was nice to see. The food was really nice, however was definitely not value for money, and portions were too large. This would suggest to me that they could reduce the portion size and the price tag, and still keep the good food but at a more appetising price point. A very happy medium. Something that is surely unique to this restaurant is that you are allowed to mix and match your desserts - a bit of this and a bit of that - brilliant! All look homemade, increasing the desire for more than one!
