I've eaten here a few times, most recently with parents, brother and bridesmaids the day before my wedding. I always enjoy the food here and they have a nice wine list too, but the atmosphere is always a little cold, even when the restaurant is busy. The staff are nice and efficient, not particularly chatty or friendly, but I guess thats ok, some people prefer that. I like the menu selection and always try something different, the selection is good, ususally lots of meat and fish dishes and a few vegetarian options too. On my last visit I had the seafood kebab which was ok, unfortunately the prawns were a little over, but the monkfish was very tasty. The vegetable side orders are very tasty, not overcooked like in a lot of places and they dont charge extra for them which is very good. I'm sure I'll come here again, I think its the best casual restaurant in Clonmel.

Nice place. Found it a bit pricey tho. Really only for a special occasion and at that not overly much choice on evening menu

Went with a bunch of friends. Had crayfish salad for starter, very refreshing. For mains, opted for pork belly, tasty succulent meat. For dessert then, went for tiramisu, pretty basic. Overall good experience, definitely recommend it.

I only went here for the early bird menu, but I have to say it was great value and most of the items on the early bird were also on the main a la carte menu. The food was delicious, service was great. the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Went here for a friends birthday, atmosphere was good, place was very busy. Took a long time to take our order and to serve the food. Being in a large group we didnt mind too much but if you were in a smaller party id certainly hope service would be faster. Food itself was lovely but a touch overpriced. In these recessionary times I think you can get much better value elsewhere :(

I went there with my friend. The atmosphere is fantastic, its really calm & quiet. A perfect choice for us who are tired after a long work day to relax and dine in. The price is reasonable (we are both taking early bird menu), & the food is okay. The starter & dessert are nothing special, in fact we felt its a bit overpriced. But the main course is memorable, the hake fillet is fresh & baked perfectly to our taste. The service is also excellent, we don't have to wait long for our food to be served. In general, I think they deserved the awards they got & would definitely go there again.

I was eagerly looking forward to eating at Befanis as being from Clonmel but living in the UK I thought it was really exciting to have such a lauded restaurant in the town. I was expecting a treat. Unfortunately, I was disappointed from the start… The service was perfunctory and slow, the atmosphere had all the charm and feel of a very 80s and while I have no problem paying high prices for good food I resent paying extortionate prices for a limited menu and badly cooked food.
The starter was a tasty calamari and prawn platter but overpriced for what it was. I had the steak (requested medium) which managed to be both very overcooked and rubbery while my dining partner had the fish platter which was smothered in a sauce which overpowered the texture and taste of the fish. The portions were big but I’d rather pay for quality rather than quantity. When I left the steak uneaten there was not even a gesture of goodwill – money-off, free drink, replacement of the dish. Nothing.
Living in London where prices are high anyway and which I am happy to pay as I eat out a lot I was shocked by the prices here. There is a wider issue of ‘rip off’ Ireland at play in this but living near a Michelin starred restaurant which has a set a la carte menu at L40 and where the food is impeccable and then visiting a regional Irish town to eat over priced and badly cooked food I think the customer will always be the loser here.
