Servings:Makes 10 to 12

Ingredients

  • 5 sheets of puff pastry
  • 1 large potato, peeled & grated
  • 1 brown onion
  • 1 medium turnip
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 swede
  • 1 small sweet potato
  • 2 tbs. crushed garlic
  • 1 ginger
  • 1 sweet chilli sauce
  • 600g gravy beef minced
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • pepper & salt to taste
  • 2 egg yokes beaten

Method

  1. Microwave meat,garlic,onion &ginger& beef stock, for 4 to 5 mins.
  2. Mix all other ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Add the cooked meat, combine well, add salt & pepper to taste.
  4. Preheat oven to 180c.
  5. Lay out the puff pastry, cut into 4 parts.
  6. Add a suitable amount of strained meat mixture to each section, wet edges lay another layer of pastry on top, press all edges & then coat top & sides with egg yoke.
  7. Place all the pies on a flat tray into the oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
  8. Turn down the heat to 150c for another 15 minutes.
  9. Enjoy with your favourite sauce, hot or cold.

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
