The Old Fort Restaurant is in the newly restored main building of the Shannonbridge Fortifications. This wonderful building was constructed in 1810 (approx) as a bridgehead defence against Napoleon.
The Fortifications are now home to a wonderful restaurant and our head chef Marie Haverty has prepared a wide range of tempting dishes for you to savour.

5.0 The Old Fort Restaurant 5.0 star review:
While on a cruising holiday on the river Shannon stopped off at this impressive Restaurant overlooking Shannonbridge in Co Offaly. The restaurant itself is actually on the Roscommon side of the river in an old fort that has been restored very sympathetically by the hard working owners. The restaurant and bar is split on two levels, we had a look upstairs and the upstairs seems to be used for large banquets or parties in the off season. Downstairs was busy as it was a Saturday night. Most diners opt for the value menu of two courses for €20 or three for €25 as the a la carte on its own is quiet expensive. For example sirloin steak is just under €30 and only three main course choices are available. All in all the food was delicious though, for main courses there were three of us dining and we opted for the Fish of the day which was Hake, a Sirloin Steak and the Spare Ribs. All were excellent as was the accompanying baby potatoes and veg. Staff are all very friendly and attentive as well. Only gripes the ice cream for dessert was a bit basic and didn’t taste homemade as advertised. A little bit more flair in the area of desserts and presentation of them would have made an overall perfect meal. Good choices of wine as well although one of my diners did comment that the wine list was pricey as well. All in all though a great place to stop well worth the diversion and a gem in Shannonbridge.
