5.0 The Thatch Bar & Restaurant 5.0 star review:
A perfect restaurant for a cosy meal on a damp and cold March evening. The welcome was as equally warm as the log fire burning. I cant fault anything, service is 5 stars, value is 5 stars. The quality of the food is outstanding. This is complemented by a great selection of wine.
A hidden Gem just outside Birr, would highly recommend it and will most definately be returning.

dined in a group of 6 on easter saturday.had the early bird set dinner menu.30e for 3 courses plus tea and coffee and a glass of house wine.from the moment you cross the treshold you can see how well run the thatch is.we were brought in to a waiting area and given the menus .there was 7 starters,8 main courses,7 deserts on the menu and not one supplement. i had monkfish in batter served with salad to start,it was divine.my main course was duck.,equally as good as the starter.we also had the steak and the chicken.we got individual potatoes and veg and a large dish of garlic potatoes for sharing.everything was cooked to perfection.cheesecake.apple pie and icecream were chosen as deserts.followed by tea/coffee . after dinner mints completed a really good meal and a thoroughly pleasant dining experience from start to finish.unique setting one mile from birr,an old world inn that knows what irish hospitality means.
