4.0 The Poet's Rest 4.0 star review:
This was the second time to eat here.
First time was amazing, everything excellent, the staff are brilliant.
So we went back for a second time.
Again Staff Excellent, can not fault them.
But the food.
Starters were good - nothing to complain about.
Mains were poor.
We both ordered Steaks, I got the surf and turf, my partner got the fillet steak.
On the menu, it stats they are servered with homemade chips, but they arrived with over cooked skinny frozen chips.
The fillet mains was perfect.
The surf and turf is a very small portion.
3 small prawns and a sliever of beef... not worth it at all.
We did ask about the frozen chips, but no one could explain.
We wont be returning

Do not eat here. This restaurant had potential but as soon as the food arrived late and burned it became the worst place we ever ate in. The service staff were excellent and I felt sorry for them considering what they had to serve!
Chicken wings for starters were cold in center as if came from fridge pre-cooked not fresh, burned on top layer from what i suspect was from sitting under heat? Pork spare ribs for mains also burned and poor quality meat.
Myself and my wife will never return. Shame as location and service staff I would give high marks.

Fantastic food, great service and unbelievable value with our menupages deal!
We arrived expecting our menupages voucher to cover a set menu but no we were told anything from the a la carte menu. I had a delicious goats cheese bruschetta with a lovely sauvignon blanc, followed by fillet steak cooked on a lava stone, just delicious. The desserts and coffees were also superb and best of all the waitresses were so warm and friendly. There was a busy but relaxed atmosphere. Our bill without the voucher would have been about €90 as we both had steak and I would have been happy to pay that. It was well worth it.
Looking forward to returning.

A bad dining experience, Service was good, restaurant itself was nice. I was expecting a nice meal for two, the starter and desert were fine, but the main course was terrible. The meat was dry and the food was just thrown on the plate. Very disappointing. I would definitely not recommend this place.

Met with 2 friends & had a great night out. We all had something different from the set menu & were not disappointed with either the portion size or the flavour. Our waitress, Donna, was superb, always nice to be greeted with a huge smile & nothing was any trouble to her (she deserves a 10 star rating!). We didn't have to wait too long between dishes & all the food was fresh. The setting was lovely, the fire was on & kept us nice & toasty! The bill was the biggest shock.....such great value, we'll definitely all be back. Thank you & looking forward to my next bite there!

A good night out
I went with three friends to the Poets Rest for a meal deal; I was embarrassed as I felt I was getting an unbelievable experience for a fraction of the cost. I hope to return soon. A great place to go for a meal, great food and friendly staff.

We enjoyed a delicious meal here while driving through the quaint village of Slane.
The food was excellent as was the service from the friendly waitresses.
Our only complaint would be the draft from the door as we were seated in the direct path of the front door.
We will certainly be returning and very soon.

I went for dinner here with my boyfriend on Sunday night. The restaurant was about half full. We ordered from the set dinner menu - 3 courses for 20 euro. I have to say, we were both very satisfied with our meal. He had the fish cakes for starter, I had the chicken wings. We both had steak on the stone for our main course. I had the apple pie and he had the rhubarb and berry crumble for dessert. The steak and the desserts were particularly good. I think that we got good value for money and I would be happy to go here again.
