Table booked for 8pm, seated at table at 9 p.m. Lots of other people sitting around waiting for periods of over 40 mins also. On arrival (after booking our table 4 days before)..we were told there would be "a bit of a wait" Had we known it was going to be an hour, we would have gone to the pub but as there was no time frame given and staff did not seem to be too concerned or apologetic, we assumed it would be 15/20 mins wait. We were offered drinks, which I assumed were going to be complimentary- but they were added on to the bill at the end of the night. The drinks we were offered did not arrive for 20 mins- barmaid very busy. 2 more of our group asked for drinks and they too had to remind the barmaid – she was very apologetic, but clearly run off her feet. At 8.40, when I enquired about the wait and pointed out (again) that we had booked a table for 8pm, we were told there would be another 5/10 minute wait and that we could order food. We were seated at 9p.m. Starters arrived quick enough and main came at 9.40. Food was fabulous and portions were great. Between the group of us, we ordered a number of things from the menu and every one was pleased with their order.Table service was good and staff were friendly but busy, -place seems to be understaffed and very badly organised. Several other people were waiting for their tables when we arrived and it looked like they had been sitting around for a while also. We were all waiting at the door which kept opening and closing – drafty. Fab food- but seriously overpriced given the poor service/chaos regarding bookings. Some honesty regarding waiting times and a complementary bottle of house wine would have been appreciated.

4.0 The Russell Restaurant 4.0 star review:
Visited the russell two weeks ago, on a Sunday night. We made on prior booking as we thought it would be quite. Actually the restaurant was full but we were informed a table would be free in 20 minutes so we waited.
The restaurant is a chic boutique" celtic tiger" type restaurant with quality cutlery and seating. The wine menu is extensive and the house wine( i forget the name) was good.
We ordered off the early bird menu which lasts until 9.00pm on a Sunday. It was 2 courses for €25.00 seems a bit pricey but was worth every cent.
I had the fishcake which was very nice and the selection of breads on the table complimented it. For mains I had the Russell burger which was fabulous. The fish was also very good. No dessert was had.
Others at the table had steak. Cooked perfectly. Only note on the food was the champ which was slightly too buttery for my taste.
Overall a very positive night, Only draw backs was the heat in the restaurant which became uncomfortable while eating. Also while waiting in the door area i noticed one of the waitresses( lady at the bar) looking not very pleased with the tip left by one table, a bit snooty but she is just trying to make a living too.

I went to this restaurant with a party of 10. We were seated and had to look for someone to take our order. Starters arrived at the table nearly 75mins after we were seated. Food could have been hottter. The food was average for what they charge. I have had a lot nicer. At the end of the meal when we requested the bill we were told if we buy one round of shots the second would be free. On a bill of nearly €500 a round of free shots was the least they could do. It was a bit irish if you ask me! Wont be hurrying back.

Recently visited the Russell for a family celebration...which we had tried to celebrate here a few months before but it took over two hours to seat us and the staff were so rude that our party left at 11pm with a voucher from the manager.Reluctantly we returned last week. The service was terrible (thankfully not such a long wait as previously) at one point when we asked to order dessert the waitress came over and told us she'd come back when she was ready but she had two other tables to serve!!!The food was horrid, except the starter...the main course was over cooked and tough, the crumble on the dessert wasn't cooked at all!!!Will not be going back to this restaurant it has dropped its once very high standards.

A terrible experience, which really disappointed me as this used to be a great place to eat, but I have been here twice in the last year and neither experience was a positive one. When we arrived we were seated but it took over 40 minutes to take our order. The starter was nice, but the steak i got for the main course was very dry and the sauce was bland, and I had to ask them for a portion of vegetables. The dessert, rhubarb crumble, was not cooked and had to send it back, which I have never done before. The waitresses all ignored us and served every table before us. We felt like we were not important and they didn't want us there, which is a bad business venture in today's climate. I would never go back there again.
