A group of 5 work collegues went for lunch in the Courtyard, unfortunately we never actually received any lunch. We went at 12.45 (to beat the 1o'clock lunch rush) and was seated and ordered by 12.55. Granted it was a Friday and at peak lunch time but we were left waiting for our food for 30 minutes, during this time 1 waitress came to say it was on its way. We noticed a table getting served that had sat down after us. After waiting until our lunch break was actually up we went to the counter to pay and get our sandwhices (one of us ordered soup which was out after 5 minutes) as take out. But they still weren't ready. We weren't giving an apology, needless to say we didn't pay for our food as we hadn't received it. The lady that had the soup was given this free of charge as a goodwill gesture but this was too little too late for the rest of us that had to go back to work on empty stomachs. (We think they mixed up our order and gave it to a different table, but even to explain this to us would have been nice). I have also e-mailed the Courtyard in relation to the incident but no reply to date. Needless to say we will not be returning.

As recent arrivals in Navan and not having had a dining experience worth writing about to date, we called into Flatleys with some ambivalence, expecting average pub grub served by the usual unprofessional part-timer we'd come to expect. How surprised we were to find exactly the opposite! As ex-restaurateurs, we are constantly disappointed by a lack of basic service standards in so many restaurants these days. We were dining with a very tired 5 year old and the timing of our meals was impeccable and thoughtful. Our waitperson was efficient, pleasant and unobtrusive. The restaurant was reasonably busy given the early hour and she ran the floor on her own without missing a trick. The food itself was well presented and generously proportioned - no complaints whatsoever (unlike a previous reviewer, my husband's steak was cooked to perfection). We will be making a return visit to Flatleys very soon.

Unfortunately, I have nothing nice to say about Flatley's anymore. It appears that they have lost their chef and that is blatantly obvious in the food. Having had a great meal the last day, I took my mother for an early bird only to find that they are no longer offering early bird (although the menu clearly states so). So Mam opted for the chicken fajitas and I ordered the fillet steak as the last time I had one there it was beautifully presented and to my delight cooked to the exact temp that I had requested - Med/Rare. This time, after waiting 25 minutes I received a well done, and to my horror - butterflied fillet steak with some fat on the end. WHO butterflies a fillet steak and serves it way overcooked 25 minutes after the order comes in? If the restaurant was busy I can understand the delay but on a Friday night when there is only one couple with a baby there there is NO excuse for this. 29euro for a steak like that? Upsetting yes, acceptable - no, not by any standards. I also asked for vegetables which were root veg, served deep-fried! What is the point of eating veg? Healthy option please.... Anyway, we got the cheque and left. I was not taking a chance on a second order.
