The Helm Bar & Restaurant 3.0 star review: Went here for lunch as we were told of its great reputation. The food was of a high quality using fresh ingredients however we have eaten in nicer places in the Westport area. The seafood chowder for starters was tasty but quite small, and there was very few pieces of fish in it, mostly diced carrot. The crab and salmon platter was lovely, with servings very generous of both fish. The battered cod, tartar sauce and chips definitely was the better choice though. Service was a bit slow and it took a while to grab someones attention but the food was quick to come out – if a bit too quick! Wouldn't be rushing back for lunch, maybe for a quick bite to eat in the evening when theres a bit of atmosphere.

Atmosphere is nice and casual.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

The Helm Bar & Restaurant 4.0 star review: This restaurant was highly recommended to us and we were really expecting something different. This is a very good pub that serves food but not exactly what I would describe as a restaurant. However I cannot criticise the food. I had the beef stir fry and the meat was of a very high quality and very well cooked. The atmosphere in the pub was very lively and a real Irish pub experience. Overall a very good eatery but not somewhere for a quiet meal if that is what you are looking for.
