We had the most amazing anniversary dinner in La Fougere last Thursday evening. We ate from both the table d'hote and a la carte menus. The venison and turbot in particular were absolutely delicious and the signature chocolate plate was mind blowing. We'll worth a visit if you are in the Westport area. It is quite obvious why Seamus Commons was recognised as the Best Chef in Connaught.

Stayed in Knockranny House on a 3 night mid week deal, a 30th Birthday present from himself. La Fougere is a wonderful restaurant with top class service and top class food. I took the opportunity to try some fish I have never had before like scallops and sea bream. At first glance of the menu the table D'Hote looke pricey at €54 euro a head, especially as if you wish to order off the a la carte instead you have to pay a supplement (7.50 for starters and desserts, 9.50 for mains) as the prices on the a la carte average around 16 euro for starters but as the previous reviewer said, if you are on a package deal it works out quite reasonable. There is not a massive amount of food on the plate but what you do get is excellent and you are not feeling too full, or hungry either! Great detail paid to the presenation on the plate.I would love to return again some time.

La Fougere restaurant is in my opinion, sensational. It's beautifully situated overlooking Westport with a wonderful view of Croagh Patrick. It's located in Knockranny House Hotel where we stayed for 5 nights in mid January. And the food - Oh the food!!. We ate there on 4 of the 5 nights and did not have a single disappointment. On different nights we had turbot, monkfish, sole, duck and lamb and every dish was perfectly cooked and presented. I don't know who the chef is in this restaurant but he/she clearly knows their job. Service was also excellent. In terms of value, the table d'hote is €54 which you might think is a little expensive but it is a fine dining experience. We had actually availed of a hotel special offer which cost €225 for 5 nights B&B and included 4 evening meals. Now if you work out that the 4 dinners cost €216 it meant that we got 5 nights B&B for €9. And the breakfasts were superb. I think you would have had to go back to the 19th century to equal prices like that. Overall a very very pleasant experience.
