Dooleys of Edmondstown 4.5 star review: We came across this restaurant on our way from Dublin to Monaghan to visit family, and it was the first place we hit after coming off the M1 at Ardee. There was plenty of parking though the car park was reasonably full on that day (a Saturday). The place itself is very modern and clean with high celings and was nice and warm on a particularly cold Saturday! We went for the carvery which was really great value for money. Portions were very generous. I had the lamb which was melt in the mouth and himself had the turkey & ham, both were served wiith roasties, mash veg and lots of gravy! Great place to stop off for a feed. Recommended :-)

Dooleys of Edmondstown 1.0 star review: Made a visit to Dooleys yesterday on the way home from a golfing trip with my friend. We were looking for a hot meat sandwich and a coffee from the carvery bar but we were informed "no sandwiches on a Sunday".I mean what planet are these people on we resorted to coffee and crisps we should have walked out.I said it to the bar man and he agreed it was ridiculous he in turn said it to some little man who was obviously the manager but he ignored the comment. In this day and age the customer should be catered for at every opportunity and not turned away because some chef does not like making sandwiches on a Sunday.Bar/Restaurant owners should take note of these errors in their business attitudes as it is the little things that make the difference, what a pity!!!!!

Dooleys of Edmondstown 3.0 star review: Having had a fractious evening of car breakdowns, bad weather and other things, my partner and I needed a little TLC of the food variety and this was the next place we met on our travels. There weren't too many around (being Wednesday evening), and the soccer was on a few of the screens around. We found a table away from the TVs (I'm a rugby head) and waited to be served. Getting menus took a little while, but we were impressed with the content once they were received. I approached to get a drink for us, only to find a staff member watching the match, but unable to serve me as it was not his department. He did promptly head off to find someone to look after me and I finally got our drinks. Our waiter took our order soon after that and the food was served within 10 minutes or so. I should mention that it was rather late in the evening and I got the distinct impression that they were about to wrap up the food side of things. However, our dishes were well cooked and not shy on content. I was a little taken aback by my stroganoff as it didn't have the normal creamy texture I would associate with that dish. It also contained sliced gerkins which added a unusual taste. Having said that, it was not unpleasant, just not really a stroganoff as I would expect it. My partner was quite pleased with her meal, which was the Singapore Chicken & Noodle Stirfry. Having tasted it, I could see why. Our dishes were cleared and to be fair to the waiter, he waited as long as possible to ask if we would like desserts, in spite of the kitchen wanting to close. We declined as we wanted to get on the road again.

Overall, we enjoyed the experience of eating there and would do it again if we were in the area. The staff were pleasant and friendly, the place was clean and it is well worth trying.

Dooleys of Edmondstown 3.0 star review: It is almost a year since we first visited Dooleys and having found it very quiet on our first visit, we decided to try it again. It wasn't busy in the restaurant, so we asked if we could eat in the lounge area, where there were a few more people. This was not a problem and our order was quickly taken. Starters of wings and deep fried brie swiftly followed and the main courses came almost immediately that our plates were lifted. That said, the food was lovely. However, our main course plates were cleared by a man (I assumed he was from the bar) who had not served us initially. We then sat for an absolute age waiting for someone to ask if we wanted desserts or coffee. My partner was on the set €25 menu which included these. Eventually, he called one of the waitresses and she left over menus, but never came back to take the order. Just when we were about to give up, a different girl came over and apologised. We ordered desserts and they duly came. Unfortunately, the chocolate fudge cake contained a hair. When paying the bill, my partner asked to speak to the manager, not to dispute the bill, but to let them know that the service left a lot to be desired, especially in a place that was not busy. The manager turned out to be the man who had cleared or main course dishes and he insisted that he had asked if we wanted desserts - which he clearly had not (this is my partner's favourite part of the meal!). I am very disappointed in the attitude that was shown to us. We eat out on a regular basis and made the trip from Dundalk especially to eat here, but I will not be visiting again nor will I recommend it. There are too many other places doing great value menus ALONG with excellent customer service.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
