Fitzpatrick's Bar & Restaurant, Co.Louth - 16 February 2012 What an excellent experience we had here, and well worth the drive across from Virginia, before we headed onto Dublin, (following a recommendation). We arrived mid-afternoon and there was still a number of tourists, families, and couples like ourselves, keeping it busy. While awaiting our order, my wife had a glass of wine and I a soft drink and looked about at all the range of antiques that hang from the rafters, and across numerous shelves; mementos of lifetimes now gone by. We chose from the specials menu and on being advised one would take a while, we were treated to an amuse-bouche, a pleasant glass-mug of soup and fresh parsley, a nice touch. My wife's breast of chicken came with the skin crisped, on a bed of cabbage and bacon, atop a bed of champ, surrounded by a mustard sauce. Mine was the pan-fried hake, topped by a crisp slice of parma ham, and two solitary scallops, surrounded this time by what seemed like a light pea sauce. Two little novelty iron pots of creamy mash and a medley of fresh mange-tout, green beans and broccoli made this meal just superb. This was cuisine superb Messrs Fitzpatrick. With no room for desserts, 2 americano coffees were served with 4 complimentary liqueur dark chocolates, heavenly. Our bill was just €41.60, value beyond belief. Can't wait to divert this way again.

Recently on a saturday evening I and my partner decided to visit fitzpatricks,From the first minute we walked in the door we knew the experience would be unforgettable. From friendly staff to the nice warm fire that was blazing just inside the main door of the restaurant. Before our starter we decided to have a drink,I had a pint of Guinness and my wife had a coke,The pint of Guinness was up there with the very best. For starter i had the seafood chowder and my wife had the mussels, very enjoyable i must say. For the main course I had the scampi and my partner had the chicken kiev, the 2 main courses were delicious. We dedided to finish our experience with 2 Irish coffees and the shamrock on top of each just added that special touch,it was wonderful. I must say that I have been at a lot of restaurants over the years but this is by far the best and I will be back for sure,it gets a very big 10 out of 10 from me.

Ate here about 2 years ago and was back again recently and the first thing that struck me was God - this place has gotten so big headed with it's reputation that they don't even feel the need to bother try any more. Huge let down. Food was more expensive and not half as good or size as it used to be, not to mention the completely flat/watered down soft drinks I ordered. Service was okay, but I kept an eye on the clock and we were literally waiting nearly 40 minutes between courses. Overall I felt ripped off. I had trusted this place to give me value for money and was completely let down. Having discussed this with a few of my friends in the area they said that they had felt the same. This place has gone really down hill and would want to pull their socks up if they want to keep their loyal customers.

As the owner of Fitzpatrick's Bar & Restaurant I try to run my premises to a decent standard in every aspect from the car park to the gardens to the food & service, As a person who cares what customers say about my restaurant and I always try to deal with complaints, should it be a cold cup of coffee to bad service. I did send a email to menupages to forward it on to the person who sent in the review, I offered to meet the unsatisfied customer any place and at anytime to discuss their complaint this was almost one month ago and I have heard nothing back as yet. If customers don't complain at the time there is very little I can about their complaint and it takes these customers two months to think of writing a complaint and cant even meet to discuss the problems. If anyone knows me and my wife they will know we are very down to earth people & we treat customers and staff as we like to be treated ourselves. My offer is still available to this customer to meet me and have a coffee to discuss the complaints further.
