PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 4.5 star review: Food absolutely excellent. However for the price portions were very small. In our party we had three men and all three meals would have fed one. In fact they had to order lots of side dishes to make up for the small main course. Saying that though they served as much wonderful brown bread we wanted. Only other small issue was for the prices of the food, it was extremely crowded and when we were eating people were standing over us drinking, maybe they should keep the food part slightly separate from the bar. Also whenever the front door of the bar opened the open fire blew in a cloud of smoke and was a little uncomfortable. But all in all it is a wonderfull but touristly place.

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 5.0 star review: I ate hear last weekend with my fiancee. We shared a dish of crab claws in garlic butter which came with homemade brown bread, then we had some BBQ spare ribs. The food here is fantastic but we found the service quite slow. It was worth the wait anyway. The place had a good atmosphere and seemed really busy which is a good sign. We will definitely visit here again next time we are in Carlingford.

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 4.5 star review: I went here on a hen party and they gave us our own area upstairs which had plenty of room for about 30 of us! The service was very quick and the menu provided for us suited nearly everyone. If you like sea food you must visit here if you’re in Carlingford. I had their speciality – oysters and they were really fresh! For mains I had seafood linguini which was lovely and a huge portion. Very friendly atmosphere perfect for girls night out!

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 5.0 star review: Dropped in for lunch here and really love this place and the food is superb. It's an old pub with lots of character and atmosphere. The menu is quite vast with lots to choose from. We were not too hungry so just chose 2 x starters. They always bring out some of their fabulous homemade brown bread to nibble on. I chose the smoked salmon and my other half the taco's. The portions for starters were really generous and presentation was tops for pub grub. The staff are very attentive, polite and good humoured. It's really good value for money and you are always guaranteed to leave satisfied and smiling. Such a great place!.

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 4.0 star review: Killed a lovely Sunday lunchtime in here. Arrived early & place was a bit of a ghost town, eventually found some staff & order was taken. Seafood Chowder, Guinness & Beef Pie, Chicken Curry, Apple Tart & Sticky Toffee Pudding. All very good but nothing out of this world. The menu is extensive but nothing exotic on it. The side salad with the main (ordered by mistake) was not great, very heavy on the mayo. Best thing about the pub is the atmosphere is a lovely relaxed place and you are never rushed despite how busy it is. If you are after good quality traditional pub grub definitely the place to go, if you fancy something a bit different is other options in Carlingford. Staff are really nice & helpful!

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 4.5 star review: I was in Carlingford for the 'Taste of Carlingford'. Visited PJ's for some food. It is an oldschool bar. Has the feel of an old country bar which I really like. Take for example a man was inside and his dog was asleep under his chair, and then you could see the fishermen come in occasionally in their wellies. Brilliant! Very cosy place. It was very busy. We managed to get a hold of a table when a group left which we were quite proud of as otherwise we would have been waiting for a while I feel. We ordered the grilled oysters, the crab claws and some nachos were ordered also. The oysters were amazing! Very very tasty. The crabs claws equally so and very fresh. Nachos were fine. In fairness we werent expecting amazing nachos. It is an oyster bar after all! All in all I was very impressed. I loved the place in fact! If you are the type who likes a country feel to a place with a great, relaxing atmosphere with great food and friendly people, I recommend it. If you are looking for an upper class, snobbish joint or similar, look elsewhere.

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 4.5 star review: Lovely restaurant in a really pretty town. Food was delicious (I'm still having dreams of my grilled salmon) and service was friendly and quick. If it hadn't been for us taking up half the restaurant it would have been pretty quiet, only one other table of diners. Surprising for a place that does such great food but maybe it's the Dublin prices that are turning people off.

PJ O Hare's Oyster Bar & Restaurant 4.0 star review: PJ's bar will be familiar to most visitors to Carlingford, it is the biggest, most lively watering hole, and is usually packed at weekends. They opened the restaurant upstairs in the past year or so, and I have eaten there four or five times. The restaurant space itself is cosy and comfortable, with quite low ceilings and tables close-ish together.
Any time I eat there I tend to go for the seafood. The quality of the food has always been good, but I do feel that it is a bit over priced for what it is. You are really paying 'Dublin prices' here for what is actually good, but not spectacular, food. Unfortunatly, many Carlingford restaurants do the same, but I suppose that's Ireland. I have noticed that the daily special, which is usually seafood, is always highly priced. Also, they have that unfortunate habit of charging for side dishes etc. All in all, a nice restaurant, well located, but overpriced.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
