I loved my experience at this Restaurent so much I went back the next night. I had 2 of the best meals I have ever eaten My Husband loved his also as did my Sister and Brother in Law. We found the staff very helpful and friendly especially Kay who looked after us so well. I am really looking forward to eating here again next time I am in Carlingford

Went here for an anniversary meal and had the worst meal out I have ever encoutered.
Service was beyond terrible. Despite having booked and informed them it was a special night out, we were told to wait in the bar as someone would be right with us.
ONE HOUR later, after finally making a complaint, someone come up and said 'well we are busy'. No word of delays, no apologies, no nibbles or free drinks to keep us going. Just totally ignored and then spoke to rudely - as if we were at fault.
This place survives by trapping innocent tourists who visit once. It does not get repeat business as the service is so terrible. Overpriced food, with terrible terrible attitude.
During the meal no one came near us to offer us wine or anything. At the end they said I could have my drink free for the delay. I had ONLY been drinking water as no one offered us anything else.
The fish was 28euro and barely edible it was so greasy. I actually felt sick and left most of it. Mentioned to waitress, and reply was 'oh well the kitchen IS BUSY'. She took my plate away and left me sitting there. Then came back and asked would I like a desert. Err no.
Avoid.

" of us went in on a Wednesday night, expected it to be very quiet but was surprisingly busy. Firstly staff are very good & great atmosphere in the place. Startes were Prawn Pill Pill (not really to my liking) & Seafood Grattin, which was good. Surf & Turf main was good, as was my halibut & scallops. I had tofee pudding for dessert, which was good. She ordered what ended up being a very expensive & overpriced cocktail, not as described on the menu. Overall a very nice restaurant, if you are a meat eater not much variety (beef or chicken), but definitely a fish lover's paradise. Thought it was a little overpriced for what you get

We were really lucky to get a table in here in on a very busy night. We arrived at around 6ish and could see that it was very busy and luckily we managed to get a table. We even saw groups being turned away because they were so busy. So I would definitely suggest booking a table here.
I got the goats cheese starter which was fantastic and my boyfriend got the fish cake and that too was amazing. For the main we got a steak and a char-grilled chicken. The steak was the medium side of rare but we asked for a more rare steak. This didn't take away from how nice it was. The chicken was slightly boring, however it came with bacon which I opted to not eat. The chicken was quite dry and there was slightly too much cheese on it. But I would go again to try something else. And we were thrilled to see frogs legs and escargots on the menu!!! The atmosphere was great and the decor was really nice and bright. It felt like a Spanish restaurant. There was a lively buzz about the place too. The staff had a lot on their hands but managed it well.

Meal for four on a days travelling in the area
Starters
Goats cheese, prawn with garlic (pil pil) was excellent
Crab, avocado and grapefruit starter was superb
Spring roll, was very nice
Main course
Seafood platter was excellent though I would like more than one sauce on the plate (for taste variety)
2 fillet steaks and Lobster & prawn dish were all excellent
I like the fact they have krombacher and erdinger on draft, rather than simply bottled and for a weekend the place was hopping with a good buzz about it

Absolutly Fantastic Bistro! Could literally not fault the food. We arrived on a sunday night, just after 9pm and were welcomed in with open arms. The place was jam packed but we managed to get a seat in front of the kitchen (into which you can see at all times - nothing to hide in Magees). We were served by an extremly friendly waiter, who served us our wine, but advised us that as the kitchen was extremly busy serving mains, we would have to wait for a few mins before ordering our food, Suited us fine. There is an excellent menu, but Magees also put on specials depending on what fish is available that day. There was a choice that evening of Monkfish, halibut, turbot and more that I can't recall. I started with prawns & claws served in a delicate garlic butter - absolutly outstanding. Just enough, and the sauce was perfect. My partner started with a goats cheese crostini, served wtih black olive tepenade and salad. He very much enjoyed it. He then went for the Monkfish, and I had the turbot for mains. Both were cooked to complete perfection and tasted amazing, the portions were very generous and the price was justified. The fish was served with a side of veg, chips and potatoes, which we couldn't finish as the fish portions were just so big. The Monkfish came with a potato cake also, so there was plenty of food. We had a nice bottle of chilean chardonnay, two expressos and two sambucas to finish and we paid just over E100, without tip. Every cent was deserved. Will be returning to Carlingford, both for the beautiful scenery, and also this place. Honestly one of the most enjoyable meals I've had out, ever.

Carlingford was a fab little place to spend weekend and Magees was just wonderful. Did not have a booking for 6 but checked at 8pm and got a call to come back for 9. Service a bit hit and miss after this. Specials board was something to behold. If you like seafood this is is the place to go. Crab, Sole and the Lobster. All served with steak or on own. Good spread of wine also. V good over all.
