We are a chef-owned family business and our passion is reflected in the cooking, which offers very good value, high quality food.
In our restaurant we serve local crab, scallops, mussels & lobster when available, hand picked cockles and samphire, all for good value prices and we don't skimp on the portions. But you can also get your traditional steak and we are open for Sunday lunch. All our fish and meat is 100% locally sourced and we are proud to offer you the best Carlingford produce.

Booked a hen party for 20 people for this restaurant. We were given our room which was a great idea as we felt we weren't interfering with any other diners. We had the set menu for €40 which had a great choice of three starters, main course and desserts. I found the waitress staff very friendly, helpful and over all very efficient. We were given free reign to decorate the room how we liked. The food was delicious and all the ladies at the dinner were very complimentary of my choice of restaurant. I don't have any faults and would happily return to the restaurant again and recommend it all my friends.

On Saturday night a group of us booked a meal on the recommendation of a friend who was local to the area (Who was actually with us as it happens). I can’t comment on the food as we never got that far due to the rude, unprofessional attitude we were met with on our arrival. Firstly the waitress complained to us about how slow the party before us were (first sign of what was to come) She then while taking our drinks orders could not tell us what drinks they carried and seemed very disinterested in finding out! As one of us was vegetarian she reluctantly enquired what the vegetarian option was and then proceeded to tell us that this should have been ordered at the time of reservation (strange in itself) but when we informed her that actually we did enquire about a vegetarian option when booking she was very rude about it and implied that we the customers were at fault as they had no record of this.
I can honestly say I have never came across a more un-professional attitude in my life, we did eventually get a half hearted apology but at that stage we were all so infuriated we decided to leave, no apology was given to us and we were still charged for the drinks and ignored as we left. Apparently the restaurant had received a big party late which is the excuse given for their attitude but if they are unable to cope with a big booking and still treat other customers in a polite and mannerly fashion then possibly they should re-think the volume of bookings they take. I don’t like giving such a bad review but I have also never felt the need to leave a restaurant before so I think I am justified in this review.
The food other customers were having looked lovely but unfortuately we never got to find out how nice it was!

The Bay Tree was charming and authentic, and had all the charm of a quaint Irish town without being twee. The service was a little slow but very friendly. We had the usual full Irish breakfast and a variation of same. Everything arrived hot and at the same time most importantly. The food was cooked well and the portions reasonable with top ups of toast and tea provided. There was also a small table of continental accoutrements but which we didn't indulge in but this probably explains the initial delay in service.

4.5 The Bay Tree @ Belvedere House 4.5 star review:
The Bay Tree had been on my radar since a friend recommended it to me and I finally made it to this restaurant recently. For starters my partner and I both ordered the Samosa of Duck - shredded duck breast in filo pastry, served with sweet chili and salad. Wonderful, I wanted more. For mains, my partner ordered the Rump of Lamb (with red cabbage and rosemary sauce) and I ordered the Fillet of Hake (served with a sauce tartare and chunky fries). The lamb was exactly as ordered, medium. The hake was special and a lot of skill had gone into creating the "fries".
For desert my partner tried the Assiette of Lemon while I chose the Chocolate Fondant. These deserts were visually stunning and the flavours, while luxurious, were subtle.
I can't adequately describe the food but I can say that this chef is at the top of his game - he obviously loves to create good food and the results are impressive.
Front of house is a little unsteady at times and the wine list needs improvement, but for a top quality and creative menu, look no further.

We had come across the Bay Tree during a brief visit to Carlingford last May, but didn't get around to taking up their special mid-week offer until now. €60 per person for dinner, bed & breakfast. The food was really very good. I had the lamb shank, and it was perfect. Interesting sauce and vegatables. All four of us enjoyed all courses. Service was excellent - mind you only two tables were occupied! The restaurant is run by a very friendly chef - very keen and enthusiastic. Great to see. The rooms are very good, and the breakfast was spot on. Carlingford is a lovely town to visit. Nice harbour and hill walks, and lots of restaurants & pubs. We will be back.

Overall I though this was excellent food at a fair price. The confit of duck was especially good & I regretted not having the mussels starter which looked great. 3 courses with wine & beer was around 50 euros. Looking forward to coming again.

Stopped in Carlingford on the way home for something to eat. Walked through the town and came across The Bay Tree. The atmosphere and kerb appeal pulled us in. Menu was fresh and inviting. Our waitress was so welcoming. We had the soup (Leek & Potato) with homemade bread. Warm and tasty. Then upon recommendation we had the fish (Hake) & chips which was gorgeous! No batter so really light and the chips were yum, sauce was light. Everything was seasoned perfectly. then to finish off a fantastic meal with homemade apple crumble and homemade vanilla ice-cream. Fabulous, a true find.
