Since my first O'Dowds chowder in 1987 I've been back periodically to try to recapture that moreish taste. This time it didn't disappoint (although I must admit it hasn't always been completely reliable on past visits!) There may be an element of luck in how many chunks of fish/shellfish you get in the bowl I think. This time I was also impressed with the homemade pizza for the kids. A good place to warm up by the fire after a long beach walk.

I thought this place was great. Was buzzing! The crab claws were huge and gorgeous. The shepards pie was homemade and yum! Chowder was gorgeous too. Only bad thing between us was the mussels. I ordered the stuffed ones, but they didnt have any, so i ordered the normal ones in white wine sauce. I love mussels, but these were yuck! the taste of the 'sauce' was dreadful. And they were gritty. But everything else was great!! Lovely staff

Average chowder. Watery stuff. Seafood medley for €10.50 was a complete ripoff...three mussels, two prawns, bit of crumbled salmon darn, some non-descript white fish, all smothered in a needlessly strong cocktail sauce. Considering what I have had in O'Dowds before (Excellent lamb shanks, for example), this was a huge letdown.
