This is a unique restaurant setting at Glenlo Abbey hotel to enjoy, marvelling at the notion of rattling train journey across a countryside while dining. The set menu is only €35 which is quite attractable given the a la carte mains are in the €20 range, but I didn't think the wine range offered was value for money; perhaps that's how they make further markup. Without a doubt though, the food is very good, and after very generous sized starters, our mains of Pan-fried sea-bass and Sirloin steak were first class along with accompanying freshly cooked veggies. We noticed a dessert which offered Grand Marnier ice-cream on the a la carte menu and we asked for it and the waiter duly obliged, which was delicious on what was a very good selection of fruit berries from our set menu. Tea & coffee then, followed by finishing our wine while looking out across Lough Corrib and the setting sun, lovely. Excellent service from Kevin Moran and his staff also.

Eight of us ate here and we were all absolutely delighted with the food and the service. We were in the Dining Car which has rich furnishings and was quite comfortable. The only drawback is that because of the layout of the carraige - which is original and not changed by the owners - we had to sit in two groups of four. However, this did not cause any problem in our enjoyment of the evening. The choices were varied and we were each ery happy with them. The pate was exceptionally tasty and the scallops were cooked to perfection. I had rib-eye steak for my main and it was cooked to perfection. I believe the duck, seabass and pork were also devoured with enthusiasm. The wine was reasonably priced and the service was like our "Train Ticket" .....1st Class.
