Ard Bia was on Quay Street five years ago then we moved into Nimmos and ran both places for two years. In 2008 we moved Ard Bia to Nimmos building in the Spanish Arch. That space is now the combination of both Ard Bia and Nimmos.

This is my favourite place for breakfast or lunch in Galway. The menu is great and there are always a few specials on. It's not the cheapest place but its good and they care about serving local food. The staff are lovely no matter how busy they are. They are able to suggest gluten-free options. The building is lovely and old and charming although it could probably do with another ladies room since there is often a wait for the one existing one.

Upstairs has recently been renovated - they did a great job. Food is good and interesting. Some nice wines too. Good spot for lunch.

We had Sunday lunch in the downstairs Café area i.e. the more casual of their two areas - and casual it is! Eclectic mix of cutlery and crockery, staff very laid back but very good. Three of us had smoked pork loin with cauliflower purée and I-forget-what potatoes, basically thinly sliced, cooked apparently in garlic and cream and presented in a solid block, delicious. The pork was excellent and the purée was spectacular. Equally good was extra order of spinach (super-yummy) and butternut squash for the greedier member. Vegetarian tart for 4th member was also pronounced good, and two desserts shared were lovely. Overall a lovely relaxed experience but signs of a serious chef in the kitchen, can't wait to try the main restaurant.
