5.0 Gallaghers Boxty House 5.0 star review:
i'd booked a table at Gallagher's Boxty House for this evening, but we were all so famished that we turned up early.
Glad we did as they had a couple of guys providing musical entertainment from 5 - 6 and it was jolly nice I can tell you, to tap along (mainly in time), and sit back and relax with a bottle of wine. (Between two of us, not each!)
Now, non of us are really big eaters and we were a little dubious about eating out as the times we have in the past we have wasted so much food.
Gallagher's however, proved that if it's blummin good, you stuff yourself!
male friend started with the potato cake which was very tasty, light and very moorish, whilst I had the Black Pudding and Bacon warm salad - truly scrumptious I can tell you.
male friend decided on a "boxty" which, as far as I know is nothing like a real Irish Boxty .. it was, however, rather like an oatcake which parcelled up the most mouth watering beef - so tender it fell to pieces. Gorgeous.
i chose Farmhouse Grill -
5oz sirloin steak, gammon steak, hand-linked pork and herb sausage, Clonakilty black pudding, grilled tomato, baked flat cap mushroom and choice of potatoes.
In the end there was a bit of room left for me to have a proper Irish Coffee and for Mike to indulge his sweet taste in Brown Bread and Baileys Ice Cream .. with an extra shot of Baileys. What can I say? Mmmmmmmmmm

Myself and work colleagues had our Christmas lunch here. We really enjoyed it, the place was packed, great atmosphere. Staff very attentive and friendly. Nothing was any problem for them. The food was delicious and great great value for money. Would definately recommend this restaurant and will be back. Great for a group of friends night out.

Incredibly disappointed. I'm allergic to spinach - a weird one I know, but as soon as I eat it, I get really sick. I said this to my waitress upon ordering. However, my salmon and brown bread starter arrived with a salad garnish including spinach. This was sent back and arrived back out with salad removed. Main course was black pudding salad. Once again this arrived out with spinach, I told the waitress and she took it back to the chef who must have told her to say that the spinach leaf was a form of Rocket - Absolute rubbish, each time she spoke to me, she spoke with a rather loud voice so that all other diners could hear the conversation. I was so embarassed. My friend tasted the "rocket" and yes indeed, it was spinach. I told the waitress that I didn't want to eat it as I get very sick so she said she wouldn't charge me. I'd think not! When my party had paid the bill and were gathering our things, the waitress asked if I'd like a complimentary drink - it was very obvious we were leaving, so no... I didn't want to make the other 5 people sit there and watch me drink! Terrible - will never go again!!!

Very disappointing. We used to come here regularly as the food and service were excellent. We went in today and we really disliked everything. The service was bad and really NOT child friendly. It felt like they were annoyed to be serving clients. The food was less than average and overpriced. The char grilled meat dish we ate today had 1/3 of the meat it used to have in the past, but still the same price of 21euros, incredibly expensive for a kind of "Irish breakfast" we were served today. Two plates we ordered were not as described on the menu, they've put eggs instead of meat but we were told it has always been like this. Potatoes were old and tasted as molded. Will never go back again, real shame.

Ok, I knew this being into temple bar - I expected less value than else where but .... the 3 course meal for 25.5 euro (was 27 before the VAT reduction) may sound good but in reality is way over priced for what you get ... The coddle was missing everything expensive ( plenty of potatoes )- my wife's steack was good but nothing special - starters were tiny - I guess this is my fault as I kind of knew this was a tourist "trap" - I was warned but still went :-( ...

Visited this place tonight with my friend who's visiting from Dubai. She wanted to try somewhere 'Irish' so we decided to try this place. She had a salmon boxty, and I had a lamb one - a boxty is a potato type pancake. We were both quite impressed with our meals, and the service was fabulous. The place reminded me of my nana's kitchen years back! Atmosphere was good, most tables were full. Decent value too - and there's a set menu too for €25 if you're really hungry!

i love this restaurant. Last time I was here was on a very cold, miserable day in january and I ordered a bowl of the beef stew. Huge portion and proper comfort food. The corned beef, cabbage and potatoes with parsley sauce is gorgeous, as is their chocolate cake. The staff are always friendly and willing to help. Already trying to organise when I can go again. Love it

Whole place lacks atmosphere in general, its cramped you're made sit beside other people without been given the option to sit elsewhere even tho the place is half empty. Waiter was extremely rude, id go asfar as to say 'pig ignorant' he spoke out loud about customers who had annoyed him in earshot of other customers. Definetely wont be back!

2.0 Gallaghers Boxty House 2.0 star review:
It was cold, we were hungry, saw their early bird menu and price and said it looked good so went in. We were sat by the window, which added to the atmosphere a little, we were the only two in the place at that stage. By the time we were leaving, the place was packed. We ordered 2 glasses of house white wine, which was very much your middle of the road wine, nothing exciting. I had the chowder for starter, my friend had the stew. Both were lovely, and hit the spot, just the thing one would want on such a cold day. My American friend ordered the traditional fish and chips. Good size fish and lovely chunky chips but the mushy peas (served separately) looked like they were left exposed all day without being covered. The top layer was dry and had a crispy hard crush to dig through!! Somehow, I doubt this was part of the effect! Moving on! I ordered the fillet of salmon. I was so disappointed. 3 bits of salmon arrived folded into a pancake! Yes, it was literally a pancake folded in half with 3 bits of salmon inside and a splash of cream sauce with a dollop of mashed spud! This dish was not on the early bird menu, it was ordered off the diner menu...priced at 17.99! For this price, I expected to get a beautifully cooked full size fillet of salmon, not a sample wrapped in a sweet pancake drenched in sauce! For desert, we asked the waiter what culinary delights were on offer. Nothing appealed to us, so we decided on 2 Irish coffees. They were perfectly made, and certainly the best course of the 3! We felt we were being pushed out. Waiters cleaned our table about 4 times and constantly checked their watch for the time in front of us, reminding us to hurry up, drink up and get out! My American friend insisted in paying the bill, so I never actually got to see what the damage was, but whatever it was, it wasn’t worth it. I’ll never be back. Sorry.

Brought 7 visitors from Poland and Czech Republic to gallaghers as they were looking for a very Irish meal and it was close to their hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by the food as everyone seemed to enjoy the various traditional offerings though the stew was least favourite. The service was excellent and the atmosphere perfect for this type of entertaining.
