Enjoyed a very good meal here recently. We didn’t have a booking, but had no problem getting a table. There’s plenty of free parking in the grounds of the restaurant, which is attached to the Orchard Pub on Butterfield Avenue. There were good choices on a 2-course menu for €17.95 per person, and you also get a tea or coffee with it. Service was prompt and none of the waiting staff bugged us for the duration of our meal, except to top up our glasses with water. Very little atmosphere here, but it was early so hard to judge it. Will go back some time for another visit.

Having booked the Chrysanthemum Restaurant on a Menu Pages deal voucher for myself and two friends on a Wednesday night I was very dubious about eating there after reading the reviews but we were very pleasantly surprised on our visit. The staff were attentive and courteous, our table was well located and the heating was definitely on! We opted for the set menu for 3 with a bottle of wine and although not cheap the courses arrived hot and the food was tasty and the portions adequate for 3 ladies who enjoy their food. We arrived at 7pm when it was still relatively quiet but by 8pm the restaurant was busy and the atmosphere good. No TV screens were turned on when we were there which pleased us. All in all a good experience at the Chrysanthemum Restaurant and we will certainly be returning.

Went there on a menupages deal last night. There was absolutely no atmosphere in the place despite it being Saturday & very busy. We bought the deal because friends of ours had eaten here a few years ago & said it was lovely then-they were with us & couldn't believe the difference. Service was slow. The men ordered two pints of Heineken draught, they were flat! Our starters the combination platter was very greasy, not up to much & we even got a free hair included..yuk!! The mains were okay but nothing spectacular, with chewy beef & flavourless chicken. We were going to have dessert but as is normal in some Chinese restaurants they were frozen but that said what really put us off was the waiter we spotted squeezing raspberry sauce onto someone's dessert at the customer service desk on the way in-not very hygienic! We definitely won't be returning & to be honest if we paid full price we would have been pretty annoyed with the quality, service & atmosphere. Don't know how it was so busy it must have been the vouchers pulling in the business. AVOID :-(

We booked this restaurant on Saturday evening. Overall the food was good but it lacked the usual Chinese welcome. We did not like the presence of four plasma screens showing boxing during our meal. We feel plasma screens are not acceptable in restaurants when trying to relax and enjoy a meal. This would however be our only reason for not returning regularly.

The reviews on this site indicated a decent, if not spectacular Restaurant. My experience was neither. Suffice it to say that this was the only time I refused to eat a Chinese meal and I was not the only one. There was a large group of us to contend with, and overall I was satisfied with the friendly service of the "one" waiter charged with the job of catering for 30 people in our group, in addition to other tables and bar service.
The starters were generally ok except for a few concerns from some regarding the texture of the chicken. The main course on the other hand was diabolical. I have never seen so much food left behind - almost full servings. The beef in a poor curry sauce was the worst of the lot, it was extremely tough and had no taste whatsoever. The chicken also proved to be rubbery and tasteless and the duck didn't find too many fans either. I didn't speak with everyone about their experience but I think the above paints a sad but true picture of the quality of the food served at this restaurant. Will I or those I spoke with go back? NEVER!!!

Went here for Early Bird - €17.50 for 2 courses + tea/coffee. Quite cold in the restaurant. Staff not particularly friendly. Starter of minced pork dumpling very tasty but main of sweet & sour chicken quite bland - needed crispy veg such as onion/peppers/mushrooms or some pineapple perhaps - something to liven it up. Felt I could have had nicer sauce at home out of a jar. 1st time dining here and wouldn't rush back. Pity as nice layout but staff need to improve their customer skills & chef needs to add a little zest to the dishes.

Have just returned from a lovely meal in the Chrysanthemum. The restaurant, which is in the grounds of the Orchard Inn on Butterfield Avenue, opens at 6 p.m. which was very handy as we went there straight from work. There's plenty of parking in the grounds and the area is well lit. They do a very good early bird of 3 courses for €17.50 per person. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant, but you wouldn't expect one at 6 p.m. in the evening. What I would expect though is a restaurant to be warm - the Chrysanthemum was absolutely freezing. A dish of prawn crackers were brought to our table along with glasses of fresh water which were topped up by the waiter for the duration of our meal. The menu wasn't extensive but the choices on it were good. I had soup to start (which warmed my frozen bones up for me) followed by House Special Chow Mein. My dining companion had Spare Ribs to start followed by Prawns with Ginger. We both finished off with coffee - no drinks this time as we were in the car. We both agreed the meals were excellent - had we been at home we'd have licked the plates clean. The service was prompt and our waiter was very pleasant. There were quite a few tables occupied when we were leaving so this is a popular place by all accounts. Will pay a return visit at some time but do hope they have the restaurant warmed up by then.

Returned a compliment by bringing a client here for a late lunch and was delighted with the tasty food, attentive service, cleanliness and remarkably fair price for 2 bottles of wine, 2 starters & mains with coffee and icecream. Will be pleased to return again and to recommend for a casual and pleasant dining experience.
