Oh dear, oh dear. This place is just awful. Waitress made every mistake in the book; Got order wrong, never checked back when food came, never offered us salt, pepper or parmesan. The chicken risotto was terrible, tasteless and over cooked. And if you're going here for the pizza, don't. Just order pizza from elsewhere and avoid the terrible service. On the one plus side a different waitress offered us a free desert and was genuinely apologetic. This was just a very bad experience.

Having picked up a city deal for Riva recently, myself and my partner have become huge fans! The Goats cheese starter is amazing-though would have liked some caramelized onions with it but that's only cause the caramelized onions were soooooooooo good on the steak I had for main course! My partner had the calamari which was perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. For main course he had a pasta dish and lets face it, italians rock the pasta dish! Although I was disappointed that there was no chocolate sauce for desert when my ice cream came out with real chocolate pieces throughout I was delighted! Their ice cream is soooo good it needs no accompaniment! Mairtin had the home made tiramisu! Which is the mark of a good Italiano!! Incredible! I can't wait to go back!! :) (Only it's a bit too pricey so it will have to be a special occasion) The food is fantastic, the intimate setting and the wonderful staff make your the whole experience!

Went on a meal deal which seemed to be the case with about two thirds of the diners. The restaurant it's self is okay but just that. Really no atmosphere. We had two of the specials. My duck was very pink but I like it that way. It came with roast potatoes, bland. And very oily vegetables. My partner had the prawn special and declared the prawns rubbery. On the other hand, the house wine was not available and we were offered a very nice Pinot Grigio at the same price and the Prosecco was smooth. The staff were very nice and efficient. If only the food were better. As I say we ate on a meal deal but at full price you'd get higher quality in many Dublin restaurants.

Top marks for friendly service although one of the waiters could have been more on top of the menu. It was let down by the ambience - it's a place for a quick bite rather than a relaxing dining experience. We were on a citydeal and had identical main courses and a glass of wine each. The chicken and chorizo skewers were served with a salad and ok chips.Such a simple dish could have been wonderful but the ingredients were cheap and the spongy "chorizo" tasted of chemicals. Based on this meal, I wouldn't rush back.

Have been to Riva on Grand Canal Dock and was expecting a café version here, but it cannot have been more different. In short, don’t come here for dinner; I’m sure it’s a nice place for breakfast and a quick lunch, but the kitchen, if that’s what you can call a broom cupboard with a hob in the middle of the premises, doesn’t seem up to the task of cooking fresh food. My duck and lentils was just acceptable – the duck itself being acceptable but served on a bed of, well, lentils, unadorned and boring (and I usually love lentils). My girlfriend’s pasta carbonara was not al dente but undercooked – the sauce was, again, alright, but hard to eat when weighed down by the stiff pasta. In all it tasted of your flatmate’s home cooking re-heated. The décor was untidy, and not in a quaint way, with high chairs, and spare tables cluttered around. We were here on a voucher deal, which was lucky as I would never pay full price for what we received, and when asked how it was I replied ‘grand’, to which the waitress grunted and refused to wish me goodbye on my way out. They even got in trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority regarding the voucher deal. Best avoided.

Myself and my friend went here as part of a city deal offer. The star ratings don't appear to be working so I would clarify that I would give Riva a 3 and a half. Staff lovely and pleasant, and the food was ok. My friend's risotto had been doused with salt so she only managed half of it, but my lasagne was very tasty and the portion was enormous (that can be a plus or minus depending on your preference!). I also had the goats cheese and walnut starter - very good, but again, huge portion! Wine was nice, food was grand, but won't be in a hurry to go back as the experience on the whole was just ok.

We had a citideal for Riva which was purchased before reading the reviews on this site. After reading we were braced for a mediocre experience at best. Maybe this made our meal all the more enjoyable because we were very nicely surprised. The service was very pleasant. The menu is perhaps limited but I enjoyed a delicious lamb shank with red wine jus while my partner had the Lasagne and salad. The lasagne was served quite quickly (suggests it wasn't cooked to order) but was piping hot throughout and very tasty. We shared the hazelnut brownie and icecream along with coffees. Genuinely couldn't fault the food. The kitchen is quite central to the narrow restaurant but that aside it is a quaint if casual kind of place. I do feel that the previous reviews did not reflect the experience we had and would suggest others try it and post for themselves. Best was the Lamb. Worst was the restaurant layout.

Myself & my wife visited this place in the 1st week of May. We've been meaning to check it out for a while. We went in for lunch & I must say we were both dissappointed. We went for Italian meats for starter which we shared, I found it quite pricey compared to other restaurants, & not very much in it, also comparing to other restaurants I've been in. My wife had some form of meat balls which she said were way too chewy, and I had the rissotto which I was happy with and was piping hot which was good. We both had a glass of wine each, my wife asked for white, but was never asked if she would like Chardonnay, Savignon Blanc etc (and got some sweet wine which she didn't like) & the bill came to around 50. We've both been in other places, and getting what we got here, we could get elsewhere with a bottle of wine. So price wise, I wasn't happy, very prompt & efficient service though. One thing you notice when you come in the door are their specials on wine on a chalk board above the counter, you'd need to be a millionaire to afford their specials. Don't think we'll be going back.

None of the star ratings are working so I'll just give my overall review a 3.5 out of 5. We dined at Riva today for lunch and I have to say we were very pleasantly surprised. I had Calamari to start which was cooked perfectly if a little on the cool side when it arrived, my partner had the Tomato & Basil soup which was very nice. Our mains consisted of a Chicken,Spinach & Mushroom risotto and a steak sandwich accompanied by some chips and side salad. Overall the food was very well presented and quite tasty. My risotto I felt could have been a bit creamier in consistency, there was still alot of stock sitting in the bottom of the dish.My partner said the steak was cooked as they had asked and enjoyed the home cooked chips. The service was prompt, professional and friendly. We didn't go expecting a 5 star dining experience as we had read some iffy reviews but we would definitely go back to Riva.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with our evening here. I ordered the cold meats for starters, which was about €12. I assumed that for this price I'd be getting something special, but I was wrong. It tasted nice alright, but it was just about 4-6 slices of meat on a leaf of lettuce with a couple of olives; €12!!! I got steak for my mains, and, once again it tasted fine, but there was so much fat on it that it turned me off a bit. A pity, cos the atmosphere was good and the staff were lovely.

Went here last night. Got in and the place was quite busy. After a few minutes we realised that there was only one girl working that night. She was trying her best to accomodate and serve everybody which cant be easy on your own. We waited about 45 minutes for our starters, one of which was a cold salad. I got the wild mushroom crostini. The wild mushrooms were the wildest of them all....button mushrooms. The crostini was 1 slice of brown bread fromn a sliced pan cut in two. That been said it actually tased ok. Main course took a while to come as well so the girl gave us a glass of wine each for free which was nice of her. Main course was lovely. The chips were very nice and my steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it.

Six of us decided to go to Riva for a friends birthday as it's other restaurant Riva in Grand Canal Dock was fab. I cannot say the same for this restaurant. The interior is lovely cosy feel to it. The menu is extensive. The food was unfortunately terrible. Antipasto was horrible dried up salami and lettuce with a few chipped up tomatoes and 4 olives served with stale bread. Not one of us has a good meal. The duck was dry, the pizzas burt around the edges, risotto sticky and gloopy, steak over done. The only good thing about this restaurant was the wine, albeit a bit too pricey. Avoid disappointment.

we went to Riva for the forst time last Friday...probably the last as well. Did you ever hear about the restaurants where people describe as "Chips were good in there"? Well, tahts the only good thing i have to say about the place. From the waitress who couldnt tell us if the chips served with the meal were thick or regular ("They could be either" - thats the answer we got) to the plain tasting food everything was a bit of a let down. I do however feel sorry for the chef as he has to work in the smallest kitchen i think i've ever seen - 2 sq meters but thats not realy an excuse for the ice cold pate i got with my starter, the non condimented lentils or the almost uncooked pork. The strangest part was the dessert, it looked like it was cut with a fork from a bigger piece... I would understand if the place was busy but it wasnt, definitely not the place I would return.

I had a voucher for Riva which was for main course and glass of wine for two. The place has a nice local "feel", which is helped by the newspapers and magazines left in baskets. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We ordered starters. Mine , which was pate was good, but my companion aced it, with goats cheese , confit of pear and walnut. Don't pass this starter by! The books were balanced on the mains, his risotto was very good but my lamb stew was great. It uses cannelloni beans , (I think,) which absorb the flavours of the cooking stock and combined with tender lamb , it is just wonderful! Two slate covered tables outside for those wanting a cigarette while finishing the wine. A bit on the pricey side but very pleasant. Will be back
