Abbey Tavern & Loft Restaurant, Howth

Welcome to the world famous Abbey Tavern. A genuine 16th century tavern located in the lovely quaint fishing village of Howth. With its original stone walls, flagged floors, blazing turf fires!!! A real warm welcome to one of Dublin’s best venues. We are the Original "Traditional Irish Evening" celebrating over 45 years, which takes place in The Barn and features the world famous Abbey Tavern singers and musicians with a lively performance of music, song and the very best of Irish dancing (since 1963). The Pub, one of the oldest in Dublin, is the ideal place to lunch or a light evening meal or to just relax for a drink with friends in the genuine old world atmosphere. The Loft bar&grill is our exciting new restaurant, totally refurbished in August 2008, keeping the same old world charm and unique atmosphere. Popped in here while we were in Howth getting a bite. I have to say, I wasn't hugely impressed. The service wasn't bad or anything but the staff weren't particularly attentive either. The food was very drab. I had the fish and chips and had to note that the fish wasn't identified in the menu. Whatever it was it was very bland, and the side of mushy peas were even more bland, and I usually like mushy peas. My partner had the sole and it was even worse...would not be surprised if it had come out of a Moy Park wrapper. Wouldn't recommend.

Just popped in for a quick bite and glass of wine. We both had the chicken wings which were lovely and spicy and had a fab blue cheese dip which was finger lickingly delish. Always return here as food is always great and the staff are extremely friendly.

We took family here for a trad night. The song and dance were brilliant! Really good and a lot of fun to experience. There was a set menu and everything was pretty basic, pretty tasty. Nothing extraordinary, but worth the meal since we got a great show. The fish was my entree and it was nice and the veg and boiled potatoes were standard. The staff were all friendly and overall the vibe was great. I've also been before on just a Sunday afternoon and the seafood chowder was excellent. Really nice to sit by a big fireplace and with all the old world pub fare. Nice place to stop into if you're out by the marina or just in Howth for the day.
