Chameleon Restaurant, Temple Bar

We specialise in rijst-tafel (rice table) - it is a way of serving Indonesian food. Instead of having one main dish, you will receive several different dishes, but in small quantities. Each menu is designed to suit one person, except Krakatau which are for couples to share. We also have a vegetarian menu, a fish menu and a coeliac menu. We use nuts and soy sauce in many of our dishes. The Chameleon restaurant has won many awards including the Beck's sponsored "Best Restaurant in Temple Bar". We have been included in the Brigdestone Guide Best Restaurants in Ireland since it opened, a feat unique to a restaurant in Temple Bar

It would seem the waitress is obliged to explain risj-tafl to all customers, as was the case for ourselves. She kindly suggested the best combination of set menus for us, me being a vegetarian and my partner not. We were quite hungry, and it took a moment to finally place our order as the waiter was busy with a full restaurant- impressive the first Thursday after New Year's. The quantity of food, 2 menus for two people was just right for us. Some of the little dishes were unique and quite delicious, others like the curry were fairly standard and not impressive. We finished witha thai dessert, the cardamon crème brulée which was light and delicate after the big meal. However, in terms of value for money, 2 menus and a shared dessert came to about 70e which is expensive considering the offers that are out there.

This was our first visit and we had never even heard of rijst tafels before! We were really impressed by this restaurant. Staff were friendly and professional. Nice wine list to choose from. We ordered one fish and one meat rijst tafel. I was amazed at the amount of food that arrived all presented in little dishes, from crab to prawn to squid to fish wrapped in banana leaf! It didnt just look well, it tasted delicious also. We were absolutely stuffed at the end of the meal. Everything on the menu looks very reasonably priced and very tempting. This place definitely sets itself apart from the "norm" in Temple Bar and is a good cut above. We are going to go back real soon.

I've been here a couple of times, and simply cannot wait for an excuse to go back! The food is gorgeous...highlights for me include the pork belly and perkedel. I love the rijst tafel concept, and I think that it provides good value for money...the amount of food is fantastic. I also love the seating arrangements. There is nothing nicer than lazing on the cushions at the low down tables after a lovely meal. On one visit, we had a heavily pregnant friend in our group and she found it really comfortable and a lot less tiring than sitting at a regular table. All in all a great place, one of my favourites in Dublin
