Our story is inspired by the adventure that is Track 61, an abandoned underground platform under the famous Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York. This platform allowed VIPs to enter the hotel in a more private manner via a specially built private golden lift. One of the most famous VIPs that frequently used the platform was Franklin D. Roosevelt. Legend has it that Roosevelt’s armor-plated car would drive off the train, onto the platform and straight into the especially made golden elevator, which would lead to the hotel’s garage.

In 1965 the platform was used by the famous pop artist Andy Warhol for his ‘underground party’.

The quest for the platform, known as Track 61 has become a holy grail for many urban explorers.

Dark restaurant which I liked and able to have a conversation with my partner without the whole restaurant hearing / good acoustics. Service good, food nice / middle of the road but not memorable enough to bring me back.

Great food. One of the best Hake dishes I have had. nAnd they don't allow ketchup to be served. Great decision.

Made our first visit to this compact basement restaurant which we had been meaning to try for some time. Their early bird menu is excellent value and our waiter was wonderful. The prawn starter was delicious. One minor quibble, the sauté rosemary potatoes could have been crispier. Definitely will be back.

although it initially took a while to find, once you know where P61 is you'll never lose the location...where the old Indigo & Cloth used to be, the owners have transformed the area into a warm and welcoming space with the perfect soft lighting and background music.. Molly, our waitress, was uber friendly and welcoming from the minute we set foot in the place...we were a party of two and were sat by the door (no draught came in)...lovely menu with good selection and well priced...we both didn't go for starters but next time I'm definitely trying them.. i went for the steak with chili prawns - the steak was a beautifully cooked ribeye that just melted in to mouth and the juicy prawns added an oompha with their tangy hotness (my only negative was would've preferred more veg as opposed to potatoes which were lovely but i know for next time)...my sister got the chicken (and she never gets chicken) with a yummy bean mix - soo tasty and would definitely work as a veggie dish with some warm bread...for dessert there was creme brulee (the best my sister ever had with perfect crisp sugar to crack and creamy goodness underneath) and tiramisu (light, fluffy and airy)...portions were perfect size and left you feeling happily full...discovered this place also do brunch so will most certainly be checking it out...can't highly recommend this place enough... :)

What a great find - we had the early bird which is 2 courses for €20. I had the burger followed by creme brulee and my friend had the chicken followed by the fruit crumble - all were delicious and there was plenty of food. Even though we were there early there was a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

We went here on a Groupon voucher deal. The atmosphere when we walked in was dark and the tables looked cramped.but we discovered there was another area behind. The service is amazing.really attentive and informative.but the winner here is the food hands down. Beautifully executed and presented. The steak in particular was mouth watering. I'll definitely be back.and they do a very well priced early bird. I would've liked more light to create a better atmosphere.but they are in the basement and have no control over that. Overall a really enjoyable experience.

I went for the à la carte menu. Platform 61 is, rather unusually for Dublin, downstairs - though in perfect location. The cons - it is really dark there (though this might suit those looking for, i.e, a date - as well as for a conversation about the problem of induction); the pros - if a restaurant visit is supposed to isolate yee from this mortal coil, then it certainly does! It is much smaller than expected - but I like small places with pretty faces. What's their food like? As a starter, I ordered Tuna (10 euro). This came in a fashion of nouvelle cuisine (very small), and I've to admit that I was a bit apprehensive that the main course will be of the same dwarfish size (it was not). Having said that, the tuna toast was the work of art. Simultaneously I had baguettes (maybe not of the same quality as in the famous "Avenue", where they would have baked them themselves - maybe I'm wrong, but I sensed that they use frozen dough; having said that, you would have often left "Avenue" hungry - not the Platform 61 after steak). Their pesto was really good (one of the biggest nightmares of pestos is that most of them are criminally oversalted - this one was not)! All in all, I would give them 4* for starters (minus 1 because the tuna toast was a bit overpriced as for the size - but then again, I can only imagine the amount of work involved). I intended to go for Le Ferme Petit Paul, but they recommended another wine - Croatian Vine Laguna Festigia Castello. I have never drunk a Croatian wine before, but I think I will in the future - with its rich, oaky taste and chewy tannins, it easily beats most French wines for that price because it's more balanced (the French don't combine Merlot and Syrah varieties), My main encounter of the evening was steak (I ordered it well-done). - this was proper food (I forgave them lack of peppersauce). Salad was scrumptious, and - as Messr Trump/Sanders would say - 'uge. Waiters are professional but not overbearing. Good shtuff. Grzegorz K.
