Sallyanne and Derry Clarke's landmark Dublin restaurant is celebrating 22 years in business . Its latest accolades are- Best Restaurant of the Year 2011 in The Georgina Campbell Guide and Best Restaurant Overall in Ireland Portside Media's Good Eating Guide to Ireland 2011. l'Ecrivain's own Sommelier, Miss Martina Delaney has also just won Sommelier of the Year 2011. Dublin born Derry trained in the classical French tradition and now combines his unique Irish/French style using the very best of Irish produce from local and artisan producers. Since l'Ecrivain opened in July 1989, they have had several transformations and now L'Ecrivain is going from strength to strength. This restaurant is informed informality at its best, is very stylish and yet set in comfortable surroundings *Cuisines* Fine Dining, French/Irish, Seafood, Steak, Lamb, Poultry, Vegetarian, Wine Bar/Piano Bar.

Dined here as a birthday present. The Quail and especially the Hereford Beef Assiette was magnificent. Service was good and very astute. The decor is very nice and roomy. I finished off a lovely meal with the Opera Choclate and thoroughly enjoyed my evening. A few things though for a Michelin resteraunt I noticed were the vegetarian options could use more imagination and some of the wines could be more suitable to reflect the price. I was a little amazed when the waiter reached across my plate while eating. However I definately will be returning soon.

Taste sensation and worth every penny. Atmosphere mid week is very corporate and can be a little stuffy but cannot fault food, service, or wine. Worth the spend for any foodies out there

I have now eaten here 3 times recently and must say that I have been disappointed on all occasions. I understand that the restaurant is going for a 'relaxed atmosphere' but at times the wait between courses in painfully slow! Also the food when it arrived was disappointing, I had the quail to start which was fine but nothing great, then the lamb for the main, again fine if slightly undercooked. The side potato dish with piece of spinach also largley disappointing, it's basically a basic piece of potato! The Toffee dessert was better, and I do think the restaurant is generally better at desserts, but on the whole a disappointing experience. Better value to be had elsewhere in my opinion
