4.0 Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St) 4.0 star review:
Went here for lunch, good lunch time atmosphere. the price was reasonable. I had the chicken wings I really liked the flavor. The chicken themselves were just middling, I have had better. I had the prawn fajitas which were lovely and the desserts were great. my companion was also very happy with her food. She is a regular and it was her suggestion that we go there. The only thing was that she was disappointed as normally they did deals on the wine but not any more. The service was very good and friendly.

3.0 Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St) 3.0 star review:
Met a friend after work. Decided on Cactus jacks because of its location. We had never been so didn't know what to expect. We were seated upstairs as the restaurant was quite busy between Hens parties and office parties.
To Start we ordered the Chicken Wings and the Paprika Potatoes. Chicken wings were not nice they tasted of boiled chicken and the coating was very poor quality the paprika potatoes were smothered in tomatoes which took from the flavour.
For Mains we both had the sizzling chiken Fajitas, these were full of flavour and very filling they come with 3 small wraps and a selection of dips.
Desert consisted of a selection of Ice Creams and lemon and Tequila cheescake which was yum, great kick from the alcohol.
There was a special offer on that night where a glass house wine with any main was EUR2 not bad value if there had been a decent quantity in the glass.
Over all I would not be rushing back here

The night started out well with attentive service and a great atmosphere. The place has a great charm with slabs of wood as tables and authentic decor. All of the party ordered starters which turned out to be the star of the night. A range of starters were ordered from chili nachos to bbq ribs to deep fried motzerella balls. All of the starters were excellent. There was the option for regular starters or large. As we were having dinner we all opted for the regular size. For the ribs this consisted of 1.5 ribs but the sauce was excellent and the ribs not too fatty. The mains were quickly followed after the starters and of the party of six I was with, nobody was bowled over. I had the steak chimichanga which was advertised as having Mexican rice on the side. There was at most a tablespoon of rice. The chimichanga did not taste fresh and I was very disappointed. The other guests were also a little underwhelmed with complaints of under cooked rice with the chicken supreme and an under-seasoned burger. The desert menu was quite short and again found lacking. Overall I was slightly embarrassed at having chosen this restaurant by the end of the meal. I think if I go again, which is a big if, I would opt for the tapas menu as everybody loved the starters. The staff were friendly, but for taste I should have just gone to Boojum across the street and also saved a lot of money.

It was a quiet lunch time on a Sunday I can't really judge the atmosphere. Staff for frienldly and attentive but kind of left us to it for each dish rather than check if we liked them
The Early Bird meal deal is decent at €19.95 for 3 courses and a drink and both that and the a-la-carte menu have plenty of options
I get the feeling from what we had that the place could be a bit hit-and-miss depending on how busy they were but it is a place I might consider going back to to try the tapas

I'm a huge fan of mexican & spanish cuisine so was delighted when my boyfriend &I found this place. We walked in but were then told to go out & wait there for the table. Fortunately we didn't have to wait long and were seated in nice area.
We ordered some tapas- patatas bravas & calamares. Potatoes were good and calamares perfect.
for main we got chilli con carne - quite unflavoured, mainly beans and very oily. He got fish which supposed to be oven baked but looked &tasted; as dipped in an oil.. it was also very oily. Something that you wouldn't expect from dish as this.
In addition to this, the presentation and selection of place that food was served was poor and inappropriate. I'm not fussy but from restaurant like this you would expect a bit more....
wouldn't come back for main meal but as tapas were ok, so might consider it in a long while just to pop in for lunch or so....

Came for a spontaneous date with my boyfriend. We were given a table immediately and offered the choice of Early Bird Menu or A La Carte. Both have a great variety of dishes, and reasonable prices. I chose from the Early Bird Menu, and opted for the Mexican Street Salad to start, and the Sizzling Chicken Fajitas for my main. The starter was really colourful and flavoursome. The ingredients were very fresh and the vinaigrette was lovely. I really enjoyed all the flavours together, and the dish used fresh salad leaves (no brown bits). My boyfriend ordered the Cajun Coated Buffalo Wings, which I tasted. They were very crispy and plentiful, and very delicious. We didn’t wait long between courses, and our mains came at the same time. My fajitas were very well presented: 3 warm tortillas with 3 different dips (guacamole, salsa and sour cream) and then the sizzling chicken and vegetables. I was a tad disappointed with the vegetables, as it was only peppers and onion. I like my dishes to have more than two vegetables. The sauce with the chicken was very good though, and the combination of tortilla-dips-chicken-vegetable was satisfying. There was too much of the chicken and veg though. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Classico Burger, though too many chips with his 1 pounder burger. To finish our meal, we ordered dessert: I ordered the Chili Chocolate Rice Pudding, my boyfriend ordered the Tequila and Lime Cheesecake. Both an unusal combination but both were really well presented and certainly tasty. The rice pudding had the perfect balance of hot-and-cold, and sweet-and-chili. The chocolate sauce atop the pudding was hot so it helped with the lukewarm pudding, though the ice cream atop the sauce was rather unnecessary. The cheesecake didn’t really taste of tequila, which was good. It had a very refreshing taste to it, and was lovely and airy and was also complimented with ice cream. House wine was reasonably tasty, and the service was good. Three-course meal for €19.95 pp with wine, good value and pretty good food.

I had the fish bites and my friend had some tapas. The fish bites were lovely and my friend said the quesadillas were fantastic.
On the downside, the first waiter to serve us had a HUGE attitude problem. He was tall and thin with dark blonde hair but I didn't catch his name. I asked him how big the tapas were (I've never had tapas before so had no idea how many I should get). He snapped, 'the size of a starter, don't you know how big a starter is? Have you never ordered a starter before like??'
Slightly taken aback, I said, 'well, it was a reasonable question.'
To which he again snapped, 'and it was a reasonable answer.'
The other staff were lovely, but I think this guy needs a serious kick up the behind, I found him rude and arrogant. I wouldn't speak to anyone the way he spoke to me, let alone to a paying customer. I won't be going back to that restaurant, which is a pity because the food was lovely.

4.0 Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St) 4.0 star review:
Came here on a Saturday evening because we had heard good things about it. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We went for the early bird menu which is really good value 3 courses with a glass of wine for 20e. The wine was ok-you'd expect muck when the price is so cheap but it wasnt. he kitchen made a big boo boo. We waited for a half an hour after ordering our starters (chicken caesar salad and chicken wings) and the waiter arrived with our mains!!!! We told him we had ordered starters and he said that the kitchen had told him our starters had already been sent out. It seems like a very basic theing to get wrong.... Anyway he headed back into the kitchen with our mains and out came our starters. We were starved at this stage!!! the chicken wings were ok, as was the salad. Our mains were ok too fajitas for me were good and a cheeseburger for himself. Not sure about the fajitas but his burger definitely had been left sitting under a hotplate or lamp because his fries were really dried out at that stage. Dessert was ok too we had profiteroles and cheesecake. Followed by an amazing strawberry daiquiri. The restaurant offers great value, have very friendly staff and lovely cocktails. The food is average....ish though!!!!!!!
