Price Range:
We specialise in rijst-tafel (rice table) - it is a way of serving Indonesian food. Instead of having one main dish, you will receive several different dishes, but in small quantities. Each menu is designed to suit one person, except Krakatau which are for couples to share.
We also have a vegetarian menu, a fish menu and a coeliac menu.
We use nuts and soy sauce in many of our dishes. The Chameleon restaurant has won many awards including the Beck's sponsored "Best Restaurant in Temple Bar". We have been included in the Brigdestone Guide Best Restaurants in Ireland since it opened, a feat unique to a restaurant in Temple Bar

I went here on a thursday night with 2 friends. The restaurant was fairly busy so the only table available for us was one of the low tables where you sit on cushions. I liked the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant but found the seating a bit uncomfortable for eating. I went for the "Sea" Early Bird menu, my friends both opted for the vegetarian early bird menus. I thought the food was delicious- my fish cooked in banana leaves was perfectly cooked. However, the portions on the early bird menu are quite small and frankly, I think it's a bit overpriced. Nonetheless, I would like to return to this restaurant to sample some more food from the menu - but I will be requesting a different table next time!

Nice restaurant, sat upstairs. The many dishes you receive gives you a great selection for your taste buds. Would recommend this restaurant as somewhere to visit, I will certainly be returning in the future.

Went here for dinner recently, waiter gave us choice of sitting at tables or on communal table with low seats and cushions which she explained thoroughly, opted for low shared table as was plenty of room, you are not on top of other diners and there is some privacy. Some may be uncomfortable sitting on the cushions but I enjoyed it. The decor is atmospheric.
I ordered the vegetarian rijst-tafel menu, 8 dishes plus condiments, my partner ordered the early bird land rijst tafel, a smaller selection of dishes due to early bird deal but still plenty of variety. Food is served all together and designed for sharing if desired, server showed concern for not mixing vegetarian dishes by meat ones, which was appreciated.
The food was delicious, very interesting and flavoursome, plenty of variety, with the different sauces etc explained well. Service was very polite, friendly and efficient. Would definitely consider attending again with a larger group for an ocassion such as a birthday etc.

My OH and I were delighted to get the menupages meal offer. They were out of house white and we were offered an alternative at same price and it was delicious. The woman serving us knew her wines :) We ordered the rijst-tafel java and the sumatra. Everything served beautifully. Food was excellent and we asked for just one scoop of ice cream each as we were very full. We were seated downstairs and there was a great buzz. Cannot fault this place at all. It's perfect for all occasions. Can't wait to return

Used a menupages voucher here for my first visit. The restaurant is really unique and looks very inviting and cosy. It was so busy also all the tables were full and there was also a queue. We were seated upstairs and while we had a nice table by the mirrored wall I would have found sitting else where very cramped. We ordered a veggie and the number 1 rijst tafel. The wine we had while waiting was lovely. A huge quantity of food arrived! Loads of little dishes which is great as I love sampling diffErent things. Overall IT enjoyable nothing really tasty or amazing. For desert we had panna cotta and fried banana, both really good. The staff were great even under all the pressure as it was so busy. The food was interesting but not delicious and the atmosphere was so so. While I enjoyed the experience and I don't think it would be one I'd repeat.

I went here as a group dinner with all my friends. It was my first time though one of the girls recommended it from a previous visit. First impressions were very good, I love a place with an inviting decor. We were sat at a booth type table. The cushioned benches were very comfortable and cosy, unfortunately I was stuck with the uncushioned bench which had no back support and having sat for so long, made me very uncomfortable. There were tables with regular chairs so would suggest either going as a couple or a small group for comfort. The menu was a little overwhelming and needed to be explained to us a few times (the waitress was more than patient and friendly). Our order had to be similar to a military strategy to accommodate everyone's dietary requirements. When the food arrived, we were a bit overwhelmed at the quantity. Some dishes were very good and others were just ok. The sharing element of the experience was enjoyable but required a lot of effort passing around dishes was more than exhausting. It was an interesting evening but I would not go back.

I visited this restaurant upon a recommendation. It's easy to find and well located. However even though we had reserved a table, we were not seated for at least 30 minutes after the time we had booked. While the staff were friendly and informative, I found service to be slow. We were offered a drink while we waited but this did not arrive until after we were seated. We had to wait another 40 minutes for our food. The food was tasty and there was plenty of it. The server explained what each dish was and suggested which condiments to use. We were left to enjoy the food but I could not find a server to top up my water (which had been empty for a while) so had to get up and do it myself. I would go back but my expectations wont be as high.

We had a fantastic evening here. The food is superb and very good quality. The waiting staff were fantastic and very attentive. Our booking was at 7.30pm and we didn't leave til 10.45pm and the staff were happy to let us relax and chill. The round of complimentary shots at the end was a very nice and appreciated touch. We will definitely be back !

Nice food, great place. Even though there was loads of food it did feel like it was quantity over quality. Maybe its just me and that i prefer one main dish over loads of tiny with dishes. Just felt a bit like i was at an all you can eat chinese buffet. Not my sort of thing. Cool place thou

My husband and I went here for a date and had a wonderful meal. The food was delicious. I didn't like everything, but because of the rijst-tafel way of serving food (think Indonesian tapas) there was loads of choice and what I didn't like my husband did, and vice versa. I particularly liked the marinated beef and the squid and I thought the vegetables were delicious.
The atmosphere is lovely. We sat upstairs at a regular table (i.e. a tall table with chairs) but next time we'll try sitting at one of the low tables where you sit on large cushions.
The staff were excellent. Attentive and very informative.
The only pity really was the music - the usual restaurant "hits" cd!
Also, it is a tad expensive compared to other restaurants. But if you're looking for a meal with a difference, it's definitely worth it.
