Marios (Terenure), Terenure

Mario’s produce fresh food with a distinctly Italian flavour coupled with reasonably priced Italian and new world wines. Food is so consistently good and the prices so reasonable that it´s hard to beat. Mario’s pizzas are also among the best in town.

I have always loved Marios but I usually try go less than I want to so I don't get bored but then it ended up being 2 years! The food is still great however the last 3 times yes 3 we walked in and were left standing there for over ten minutes each time and actually left - no one even said I will be with you soon - nothing! The last time we booked - I was lat buy my partner was on time and was still left standing for awhile and when I got there it took ten minutes to ask me if I wanted a drink! It was very cramped people knocking our table all the time and I noticed a very large jump in prices - it used to be amazing value as the food is gorgeous, however now I would think of it as a overpriced. I can't understand why they won't just open the upstairs on a busy night like a Friday - everyone would have more room and waiters rearends wouldn't be knocking over my plates! The service could be better - I have worked as a chef and as a waitress - you can't really save any money by closing upstairs in that layout and I wouldn't have been so annoyed at the price jump either - it was so loud and cramped. I have to say the service did improve during our visit and the house red wine is gorgeous - I am going to find out the name I like it so much. I am a b it disappointed in the changes - especially being ignored those few times but I will return as the food is so nice - but I will return less. We had 2 mains 2 starters and 2 drinks each - not including tip it was 72 which is nearly double compared to other places these days.

At this stage , I am spoiled by offers from Menupages etc. Unfortunately, we missed the early bird at Marios. We had 2 pizzas and a bottle of wine. I found the atmosphere was very buzzy. The food was very good. However, we probably not in a great position to give a judgement as both of us had pizza and it was a nice one without being wonderful. Service was very good I didnt think it was good value for money. We ended up paying something like €52 which included a bottle of wine and a tip. I consider that that was very expensive for a night out where I had a pizza. Maybe in these recessionary times they could relook at the prices of their pizzas. Overall it was a very nice evening out.

It's been 6 months since our last visit to Mario's and we were very pleasantly surprised by the re-instatement of the benches along one wall. Our waitress informed us that there are plans to re-instate benches along the opposite wall of the front alcove. Good move. The husband and son had bruschetta to start - very generous portions. I was offered a side plate so that I could share, but declined. The lads were well pleased with their starters. The son had a pizza with pepperoni and red onions. It looked a little overdone in places to me, but he was happy. The husband and I both had the special - sole with creamy red pepper sauce. Absolutely delicious - well done to the chef. The accompanying vegetable side dish was generous but bland. Two starters, 3 main courses, a glass of wine, a beer and a soft drink came to a reasonable €78. Service was friendly and efficient.
